By Serb standards this is recent history. We regularly read about events 625 years ago so to be discussing an odd 100 years here or there seems like chicken feed!

"Lately, the voices of those who put the First World War in the context of present day can be heard, describing the assassination of Ferdinand by member of Young Bosnia Gavrilo Princip in Sarajevo in June 1914 as an act of terrorism, he said.

"We cannot remain indifferent to that. It seems that this is another attempt at putting unfair and unjustified blame on Serbia, which has caused worldwide trouble more than once in the past. It opens up an opportunity for the real culprits to wash their hands clean and get the blame off their back," he stressed. "

Come on, move on... This guy is stuck in the past. Who cares whether it was a terrorism or not an assassination that took place 100 years ago. This is a discussion for an academic who might want to write a book, not for the president of a country.

Serbia did not want to fight. She had to go to war because it was attacked imposed. The assassination was just an excuse, because the Austro-Hungarian army wanted to fight.

During World War I, the Serbian people suffered the most after the Jews. Serbia must not let anyone to try to change the interpretation of the history and role of the Serbian people in World War I. The fact that we now live in peace in this region, we can thank these very brave people who fought for freedom, but also innocent people who gave life to it.

Yesterday was a day of remembrance of our brave ancestors. I feel proud about that fact, but also because of the way the state leaders celebrated this holiday.

Average Intelligence does not let to belive in something that is obviously impossible. wars do not happen accidently, and when it is not planned in every detail, at least. Wars are final consequence of conflict about different interests which lasts for several decades. I am very satisfied about attempts to defend honor of one small country and in this case that is the President who does that, or tries to do something for reputation of his country, and that is at first of all defence of attempts from the winners of war by replacing the arguments in their own favor!

What Nikolic was trying to explain how WW1 really started. It wasn’t a single shot from Princip, but it had more to do with the powers at that time and their concerns over Germany’s expansionism. These things are always simplified for the masses much like the reason Lincoln went to war against the South – slavery when in reality it had very little to do with that.

the germans were the one's who placed a list internationally recognized unacceptable conditions upon serbia. germany started the war on a country that wasn't directly involved. perhaps it was a proxy, but proxies aren't suppose to be the target as per recent precidents of modern proxy wars.
this was internal to austo-hungarian empire. they couldn't take care of their own territory so their big brother came in to start a war.

"Yes he was born in Bosnia, but back then, people who lived in Bosnia considered themselves Serbs and wanted to unite with Serbia."

Ivo Andric in his "Bridge on the Drina" paints a different picture about the people who lived in Bosnia. Not all were Serbs. In fact, the book symbolically ends with the death of a muslim man (from old age).

"Serbia went though 2 devastating wars only a couple of years earlier, therefore we sure didn't need or want another war."
(YolToorShul, 12 November 2013 15:34)

Well, thanks also to G Princip, Serbia got the war. And what a war it was. Almost half of the Serbian population died if the figures don't lie. Such a loss in people is not worth not even 1/100 of what Princip wanted and of what Nikolic is talking about today. Serbia could have been a much bigger and stronger nation today with all that human capital. The defense pact with Russia did not help either. Russia attacked but never got to help Serbia, since it got stuck in the eastern front.

Lets face it, Nikolic'c idea of "truth" is not based on any empirical or unbiased facts, but rather its another attempt by a former (apparently) Serbian Nationliast.

The fact that he refers to Princip as "a Young Bosnian" and doesnt even mention the fact that he was a Serb Nationalist beloning to a Serb right wing nationalist extremist group pretty much sums up his sense of denial.

Yes Mr President, the Serb perma-victim thinking is back, Serbs are all holy and ever virtuous, and have never done anything wrong, while Germany, Croatia, the West (and all of the rest oh humanity aparentlly- apart from the Russians) are in a very secret conspiracy aginst the Serbs.

Whatever floats your boat Mr Pesident. Such a slanted view of history can pretty much explain why Serbia is the Balkan backward neighbour.

If you can not accept history, you can not deal with the current reality, and therefore cannot create a future.(See Sebias current state as proof of this actual truth)

Nikolics solution to the worlds great problems - "lets just deny what we dont like." - you just know this guy will go down as one of histor'ys greatest thinkers - not!

Serbs have always been the greatest threat to peace and stabilty since their unwelcomed and over extended stay in the Balkans.

After Habsburg monarchy annexed Bosnia, tensions were so high that it was only a matte of time before the war starts. Serbia went though 2 devastating wars only a couple of years earlier, therefore we sure didn't need or want another war.
