It's all very nice giving recognition to people that fought in WWI, but why are folks like Nikolic bringing up a war that occured 100 years ago, today? Serbian radicals, by whatever name, always promote nationalism, always. Progressives have changed their stripes, but not their manner.

I’m not sure whether you are breathtaking stupid or you live in some backward rustic village where media is delivered by drums.
UK, US, France, Greece, Russians and many other countries spent yesterday “bringing up a war that occurred 100 years ago”.

Ian I disagree with you on this one, but not on your main point. Yes I understand why Politicians do things publicly hoping to associate themselves with a positive, however this IS an important issue, and the Serbian President should be present for such ceremonies as a nod to the fallen. I think you know that though, or at least you should. It is the same everywhere.

Winston.

The underlying point of ALL of your comments is that you don't like Serbia, or Serbs. Even a Rememberance/Armistice day ceremony fuels your rage. What is the virtue in this- So why do you tell us this everyday, why are you so obbsessed with Serbia if it upsets you so much?

Ceremonies marking Armistice Day in World War Avala is a message to everyone that Serbia did not want war, as always in our history, was on the winning side.

@Winston

Because all those who forget about their past, are doomed to repeat it. Serbs will never forget those who gave their lives to protect our country. Same like French, Russians and all other who fought against invaders in WW I and WW II.

Because Nikolic is a politician and like any politician they will use any given opportunity to divert public attention away from important issues such as the Economy, especially when the economy isn't doing so well. Also Politicians love populist events such as WW1 Remembrance Day; it makes them look good in the media. Exactly the same in the UK!

Thinking of my grandfather, who was one of the 1800 kaplars and survived Golgotha. God bless him and all he served with. God bless Serbia.
