Council of Europe: No membership for Kosovo

STRASBOURG, BELGRADE -- Council of Europe (CoE) Secretary General Thorbjorn Jagland stated that majority of CoE members have recognized Kosovo but that membership has not been discussed. Jagland told Belgrade daily Vecernje novosti hat “we act in keeping with Resolution 1244 of the UN Security Council" and that pragmatic solutions for Kosovo needed to be found.

Funny how now the serb 'Status Neurtal' BS is slowly replacing the 'Kosovo is Serbia' BS, but it is used in the same manner. It is just a matter of time and Kosovo will be in the CoE. If you look at the members of the CoE, Kosovo already could apply tomorrow, and would get the required 2/3 vote needed in order to join, and it can be expected that in 2014 Serbia will also loose that little game.
Why does Serbia always have to pick these loosing battles, and make its own people believe in things that have not much to do with reality.

Nice speech, but I think that's very different story in real life. It should be like that, but in some ways CoE is recognizing Kosovo.

The Council of Europe will continue to be status-neutral until the Republic of Kosovo becomes a member state.

The Republic of Kosovo (not Kosovo*) recently became a member of the Council of Europe Development Bank, they'll be applying for full Council of Europe membership next. Only a 2/3 majority vote in Kosovo's favour is required, no vetoes here.

Then once Kosovo is in the CoE, Kosovo will be able to join the European Broadcasting Union (Eurovision) and UEFA ect.
