already EU members - Romania, Hungary, Croatia - have higher purchasing power than Serbia
On paper maybe but in reality it story telling. You note that it says “already EU members” which plants a seed in the mind of people that EU is the door of prosperity. What a load of BS.
Romania is the prime example of never reaching those heights once in the EU. It has one of the highest numbers living in poverty in Europe not just the EU. Hungary is not much better that the rest of the Balkans and the only things rising in Croatia are unemployment and number of soup kitchens to feed the poor. So how in God’s name they have a higher spending power is beyond understanding.
In these instances I always recall a story told during the Soviet times where the government announced that the shoe industry has produced four times the number of shoes than the people living in the Soviet Union and then the smarty would respond with “then why are we going barefoot?

I guess Serbs are missing a good chance in Russia. We have a big trend to mimimize Asian gastarbeiters quantity here. They are low cost workers with mimimal culture and proffessionalism. I know a Serbian construction brigade to be very successful here. They replaced Uzbeks and now they are recomended from one to another. Such workers here earn from 1000 to 2000 euro. Besides Serbs here feel comfortable enjoy the hospitality of a brother people. Say I like a cooking programme led by Serge Makovic on one of the TV channels. Watch the developments after the Sochi Olimpics. They say Asian gastarbeiters will be limited to do low qualification jobs only.

"GfK said in a press release that "countries that are already EU members - Romania, Hungary, Croatia - have higher purchasing power than Serbia" - with the exception of Bulgaria, where the figure is EUR 2,919. "

Oh, how suprising! EU members having higher PP than Serbia.

"At the bottom of the list are "Kosovo, Belarus, and Moldova," where the average per capita is less than EUR 2,000. Moldovans have an average disposable income of just EUR 1,257."

Suprising? Not at all. Though I miss Albania here :)
