"The scandal of U.S. spying on European leaders wont soon abate. Rights embarrassment for the Americans, who were fighting for human rights and democracy. "

The biggest scandal is not the US spying on European leaders, but on millions of ordinary Europeans. But Madam Merkel only cares for spying on her, not for spying on people. And yes, the USA lost any credibility when demanding human rights to be preserved in countries like Russia.

Snowden can certainly help with additional information, but I'm not sure if Americans would allow him that so easily.

Snowden won't be allowed to come to Germany and the main reason is both Merkel and her conservative allies in government lack the balls to go against the orders of the US military establishment. The first requirement for Snowden's entry into Germany is asylum and safe conduct but since there is an international arrest warrant against Snowden I doubt that Germany will ever backtrack on this. The whole facade of Snowden's revelations shows the hypocricy of the German elites which became "outraged"by Snowdens revelations only when "their US friends"didn't stop spying on their citizens but continued their practices on Merkel.
