Free not to Join? I don't think so. The Germans are on the march and Serbia is in their sights. The EU offers Serbia nothing more than it offers Bulgaria and Romania. Both of these EU nations are as poor as they were before joining, but now their national industries and assets are owned by foreigners and the state is in perpetual debt. With these role models why wouldn't Serbs want to join this Union?

If Serbs were told what awaited them in the EU, they would tell them to bugger off. This is why they are told only about Gay Pride and Kosovo.

The only salvation for Serbia lies with the destruction of Slovenia and Croatia. When these two former Yugoslav Republics are raped and reduced to penury then perhaps Serbs will wake up and see the true face of the EU.

When the security of people is put at risk you take measures to ensure those risks are neutralised or minimised. The Gay Pride parade posed no risk to security in itself; it was those threatening violence who did so and should have been dealt with. If 85% of the people were against the parade that is their prerogative as it is the prerogative of the European Commission to point out Serbia's obligations. If you either do not want to, or cannot, meet these obligations then you are free not to join the EU.

Selaković is, in my opinion, a very positive discovery of our political life. In his department he has done an extraordinary effort to improve factual situation in justice system. Political parties from opposition tendentiously use LGBT people and their rights, and the issue of Kosovo, for criticizing the government's efforts to get closer to the EU. For someone in Serbia, nothing is ever enough.

Selakovic this time is right. Usually he's wrong. Serbia has to fulfil many more obligations before joining EU.

The only purpose Eastern Europe will serve in the EU is CHEAP LABOUR for western factories and if they allow them into Serbia without control then that is all you will get.
Under the present system, if you don’t pay ball they will withdraw their factories and Serbia will be left with unemployment.
If you want to have a sustainable manufacturing industries then look at the Chinese model. After many years in the bosom of the EU Bulgaria and Romania are still dirt poor. Look at what they are doing to Croatia and Slovenia.

Please answer your own question. Why do they in fact seem to want to join the EU...not seem to, but have extraordinary efforts to do so? Either they are wrong or you are wrong.

The eussr is all about failed politicians getting jobs and corruption and democratic deficiency, nothing else matters to the politicians and the rest of us are untermensch who should beignored at all costs.

I agree with what you say, but I think that the phrase I've quoted above is a little strong and could be misleading, as well as handing useful ammunition to trolls.

There's no salvation for any nation through the destruction of another, and even more so when the nations concerned, especially Serbia and Croatia, are really only two estranged aspects of the same nation.

The issue is not about LGBT people and their rights, it is about the ability and willingness of the government and the security services under their control to defend the rights of ANY group of people to assemble peacefully and to protect them from threats of violence. You cannot pick and choose when to uphold these rights simply because of public opinion. Britain has many people on its shores who the public would love to see deported/removed for various reasons but the law says 'no' and that is the end of the debate. Anarchy lies in wait for those who bend to the rule of the mob.

the usual suspects keep saying that Romania and Bulgaria didn't benefit from EU ascension and are dirt poor. Purchasing power in real terms is way higher in Romania and Bulgaria compared to Serbia. It's simply not true that they didn't benefit. I have yet to meet a single Romanian or Bulgarian that thinks it was a mistake to join the EU. Is it a perfect situation? certainly not. Was it better than the alternative - definitely.

Amazing. How brainwashed some people are. The EU restricts the citizens of these two countries from moving around the EU to look for work and you come out with “meet a single Romanian or Bulgarian that thinks it was a mistake to join the EU”.
I’ve met a number who have said it was bad before joining the EU and little has changed. In fact the only time things were showing signs of improving was just prior to the GFC with the real estate boom until that crashed. Lets open the gates and see how many leave the Romanina or Bulgarian paradise.
