I am afraid 10 years is a too optimistic term. They take you only if they need you. But they needed Turkey 100 times more than Serbia and what do we have now ? Turkey has almost oficially abandoned the candidacy chair. Moreover after Bulgaria and Romania Brussels has got a long term immunity for newcomers. Especially when those are already on their knees and do whatever they are told to do.

What a joke. Serbia can't even allow LGBT persons their right to protest publically in their national capital. They've had three years to prepare for it. They've done nothing.
Its becoming obvious that Serbia doesn't want to join the EU or the civilized world, and would rather continue as an isolated, failed, state where mob violence rules and the state can't or won't protect the most basic rights of its citizens. To be honest, I think the only response is to continue talks with Montenegro and put up a big friggin' wall around Serbia, place additional restrictions on Serbians wishing to work in Europe, tax remittances to Serbia and trade with Serbia in order to help Europe pay for the inevitable 'resettlement costs' of the large number of legitimate LGBT asylum seekers currently fleeing Serbian violence (and the authorities inaction in response to said violence) and discrimination. I think travel bans on supporters/enablers of Serbia's nullification of its basic civil liberties requirements should be enacted. By the way, an offer by the Serbian authorities to hold Gay Pride in some out of the way part of Belgrade should not be accepted. if anti-Gay activists like Dveri/Serbian Orthodox Church can congregate publically on the streets of central Belgrade, so too can LGBT persons.

At least Dacic is sensible enough to realise that it will take 10 years. Some observers seem to think that a date for the start of talks is 50% of the accession process; it isn't. Serbia may well join next but it may not be the 29th member as others may have left by then, Britain included.
