"Serbia did NOT wait for anyone else to admit to anything before they did and you know it so what are you babbling on about? How about your side and the others do the same thing and admit your own crimes. Why do you have to wait till YOU'RE satisfied with an apology?"

- Quite simple. There hasnt been an official apology from your government. That basically means your state agrees with the murders of kids and women. Remember threre were Serb tanks in Kosova, not the other way around. As the perpetrator of agression the Serb gkvernment has the burden of apologizing officially to the civilians it killed based on a well institutionalized policy of death and destruction.

2. The Serbs are eager to put a huge equal sign to this and call it a day. That is just so you can remove the respobsability off of the Serb society. Things were not equal and the severity, scale, and monstrousity of crimes simply was not equal. This is a fact. I have yet to hear a Serb admit to this. Until this is done and understood, we cannot simply give the Serbs the satisfaction of feeling absolved by agreeing that everything was equal. No it was not equal. This is a fact. When your government officially recognizes this; we the average people can start to show you some understanding.

Peggy: The "all sides committed crimes" is not the same as an unequivocal "our side committed WAR crimes and we are sorry". Whether others are sorry for their crimes is a matter for them, one can only deal with oneself.
====================================
What does all sides committed crimes then mean if it doesn't mean that the person saying it is saying that their side committed cries too?
By saying all sides committed crimes IS saying that yes my side did commit war crimes but it also says that the others did too.

Now I would be happy to hear the "all sides committed crimes" from the others but they won't even go as far as that.
So, please direct your request for admissions to them not us. I believe that I have admitted that my side committed crimes. Maybe not your terminology but nevertheless it is an admission.

You won't get even this from anyone else on the other side.

Peggy: The "all sides committed crimes" is not the same as an unequivocal "our side committed WAR crimes and we are sorry". Whether others are sorry for their crimes is a matter for them, one can only deal with oneself. This type of moral equivalence is what causes the never ending downward spiral with one side or the other always looking for 'revenge' for a bygone act. I read an argument on this site today about the 6th and 7th centuries but not as a matter of historical debate but as if it had relevance to an incident that took place this week.

As with the inability to accept the misdeeds from one's own side the same applies to the notion that only your side has repented of its sins. This is nonsense. Stipe Mesic initiated attempts at mutual apologies for war crimes with what was then Serbia and Montenegro, albeit with limited success. He also gave evidence at The Hague that led to many right wing Croatians labelling him as a traitor.

I should point out that my comments are equally directed at all sides in the debate who refuse to accept the wrongdoings of their countrymen and women and are certainly not limited to Serbs. It is high time that Thaci accepted that war crimes were committed by the KLA, several of whose members have been convicted at The Hague. Maybe they too were simply 'freedom fighters'.........

Sorry, but I fail to see the logical connection. If you have trial A and trial B and trial A decides that there is no sufficient evidence, why should trial B decide the same (unless trial B is using exactly the same evidence) ?!!!

That is like saying that because a person accused of robbery in Tonga was acquitted, then a person accused of robbery in Zimbabwe should also be acquitted :)

I can't believe that 'the truth' is trotting out the tired old nonsense about "our brave boys are freedom fighters and all of their lot are clearly war criminals'. I have no idea whether this man is guilty of the specific crimes attributed to him by many Serbs but as soon as I read the words 'freedom fighter' I immediately become suspicious and think that the person concerned must have perpetrated some dreadful acts or there would be no need for clowns like 'the truth' to spring to their defence so haplessly.

As to the case itself, it was always going to be difficult to secure a guilty verdict in a where the Hague had found otherwise and where the main witness had committed suicide. It should be noted by those complaining that Albanians had found their 'own' not guilty that international judges were part of the panel.

I'm still waiting for anyone from either side in this long ago conflict to concede that one of their own was a war criminal; want to put me out of my misery Ari or 'the truth'? That would really be a news story!!

Peggy: The "all sides committed crimes" is not the same as an unequivocal "our side committed WAR crimes and we are sorry". Whether others are sorry for their crimes is a matter for them, one can only deal with oneself.
====================================
