Still unclear if Belgrade gay parade will be held

Whether the Belgrade Pride Parade will be held this year will depend on security assessments that the police are yet to make.

They should never be allowed to parade. Instead of being ashamed they want to parade and show how sick they are, in that case, how come heterosexuals dont have a parade every year? These people can be what they want and show what they want in their own homes and not out on the streets to provoke the rest of the Community. Only someone really sick would want to see naked men running around in tangas, leather outfits and a funny wig. I have a solution for those who want, go to the blue oyster bar.

However-the march should happen.

The march might be important for you ladyboy but not for the vast majority of Serbs who have to strugle for their dayly lives. In a democracy it's the will of the majority that matters.

....what are you saying? Is it in order to ban the church from holding public processions? Maybe they should not be allowed to ring bells?

I would much prefer it if people would keep their religious practices out of sight!

HOWEVER - the march should happen - the freedoms of association and expression belong to all citizens. It is not for the church or for bigots to abuse the inbuilt nature of others in the way that has been done wrongly historically.

Gay people can associate in any part of Eastern Europe where the real bigots in all this like to focus their attention on when it concerns "LGBT rights". HOWEVER, the majority of Eastern Orthodox Christians believe a persons sexual preference should only be expressed among consensual adults in a private manner and not obnoxiously celebrated on public streets.

In Serbia, there exists an LGBT community. They have their own gathering spots and establishments in Serbia's largest cities. And that is of course fine because a person not wishing to partake in such celebrations are not at all bothered by it when using streets reserved for the entire public. Tolerance is a two way street. If a certain community wants to receive respect in the society they live in, they have to be tolerated of the majority of Serbs ethical and religious values.

Also funny I never hear these self-righteous bigots comment on the treatment of gays in the Middle East where gays are you know, publicly executed for being gay. Of course it is those old Christian communities that are the real problem.

I am gay - but I am not homosexual!

Gay means Happy! The word in the English language has been hijacked and should be avoided in its slang sense. Too much beautiful old poetry has been tainted by the deliberate misuse of the word.

The police are very good at providing security at football matches and other events. Thus the security apparatus is capable but is it willing?
Serbia needs to hold this event to prove that it is a modern and tolerant society.
Besides, there is no threat from the gays and lesbians and the parade. The threat comes from the intolerant and narrow minded individuals who share a passion for violence.
