So the Pope did not mix Church with politics and therefore you're not going to get people jumping up and down.

Wow, you can find an excuse for everything.

What you just said is a lie. He directed his opinion to politicians and not his flock which makes it mixing politics and religion. If you are too stupid to see that then it's your bad moment.

I do agree that he should have an opinion on this but then so should the other be able to without you guys screaming at them to shut up.

You Albanians have always and will always remain hypocrites and stupid for trying to defend it.

Unfortunately, the Sun does not revolve around Serbia for everybody to take notice of what happens there and spend time to make statements about it.

The Albanian intellectual again eh? Don’t think too hard you’ll get a headache. Why not try and post your comments on an Albanian media site? Oh I forgot you guys haven’t heard of electricity yet.

All Popes are cut from the same cloth as they have the Catholic Church to protect and anyone who thinks differntly is fooling themselves.

I am waiting for someone to say that he should stay out of this as church has no business mixing with politics.
If an Orthodox leader did this all the Albanians and Croatians would be jumping up and down demanding he stay out of it.
So let's see how many we get.
(Peggy, 5 September 2013 22:59)

Well, he just expressed an opinion as a head of state, but did not make that the opinion of God like Mr. Gavrilovic does. The Pope did not say that going or not going to war is a sin, whereas Mr. Gavrilovic calls it a sin if somebody does not do what he thinks in matters of politics. So the Pope did not mix Church with politics and therefore you're not going to get people jumping up and down.

What did the Vatican have to say when the bombs started to rain on Serbia? NOTHING!!!!! Not a peep.

I agree with you. My point was that if an Orthodox leader said anything about it Albanians and Croatians would try to shut him up with "religion and politics don't mix".
I was trying to show the hypocrisy.

Also, he was right to speak up and wish for peace. The fact that Vatican said nothing about Serbia being bombed says a lot about the Vatican.

At the height of the war in Bosnia, I watched and listened to then then Pope, John Paul 11, who was sitting next to Bill Clinton at a function, demand to know what “was he waiting for? Why wasn’t he bombing Satan?” Now we all know who he was referring to? Yes it’s the Serbs. And now they want to make this hideous creature a saint, LOL but where is his sainthood coming from heaven or the other place.

Anyone who believes that a Pope is an apostle of peace should read up on history as there is plenty of evidence to the contrary.

Several of the previous comments have been ignorant of the facts in this matter. I follow the Italian news reports closely: it is clear that Pope Francis wrote to President Putin because the latter is hosting the meeting of the G-20 this time. The religion of President Putin has little to do with the matter at hand. Regarding world political leaders who are Catholic, nominally or otherwise, none heads a country with the military capacity of either President Obama, a Protestant Christian, or President Putin, an Eastern Orthodox Christian. Whether the USA sends missiles to rain down on Syria or not, the decision in this matter is not up to a leader of a country who is Catholic. Pope Francis considers himself an apostle of peace. He is very informed about the situation in the mid-East because there are several million Catholics there--mostly of various Eastern Catholic rites, , and he is kept informed. Besides, the relations between the Vatican and the various Eastern Orthodox churches of the mid-east have been very warm for several decades already, and the Vatican consults their opinions on the political situation. The ecumenical monastery of Bose in Italy is hosting a very big meeting of Eastern Orthodox theologians and Roman Catholic theologians right now, as i write this. The relations between the Vatican and mainstream mid-eastern Muslim religious leaders are also very cordial.

It is not surprising that a man of peace which this Argentine gentleman is writes a letter to Putin who is hosting the conference to express his anti war wishes. This has nothing to do with Catholic-Orthodox comparisons cause politicians don't base their policies or actions on what some guy in Rome or Constantinople says and I don't think Cameron or Obama or even the French Socialist Hollande are Catholic or if they are it wouldn't matter anyway.

Looks like the Vatican has got no faith in their own Catholic leaders to stop wars by pleading to an Orthodox leader to do something.
I hope the American voters see now how they got sucked in by the so called peace loving Obama..
