Just hoping the citizens of Serbia are aware of what the Politicians are doing. The Greek Governments of the past took the dangling carrot and all became rich. The poor Greeks will now need to pay for it for generations to come. Best way is to live the German way. Work hard and do not expect easy handouts.

The Serbian economy benefited from the unilaterally implemented trade agreement with the EU? Is this a joke? I'm calling major BS on these "statistics". Who complied these statistics? Tanjug? A state-owned news agency?

State-owned agency + pro-EU government = Make EU look good = Biased source.

Yugoslavia should have been an original founding member of the EU. I guarantee you that the barbaric nonsensical wars of the 90s would not have happened if ideology would not have interfered with the integration of the European homeland.Serbia is as much in Europe as France and even more so than the UK so the EU should speed up the process of integration for all European states wishing to join because this is a right and not a privilege for all peoples in Europe to cooperate and share in a common European existence. To my Serbian friends who are against this utopian ideal I say I respect your right to disagree but you will be better off being part of a whole as opposed to being isolated.

Ian, dont forget all benefits Serbia can get as EU associated state. Read the article again:
"Cost and benefits analysis shows that the implementation of the Interim Trade Agreement in 2012 brought Serbia more benefits (EUR 692 million) than costs (EUR 312 million), and the same was the case in the first five months of 2013 during which the benefits totalled EUR 222 million and costs added up to around EUR 88 million. "
There will be more, Ian.

Let's be optimistic
1-The Brussels agreement will be fully implemented
2-Negotiations will start in December
3-Negotiations will not last more than 6 years
4-Serbia can join the European union as early as 2019 if 1-the Eurozone crisis is over and the enlargement fatigue is gone, 2-if the reshuffled government and future governments do a good job.
Good luck Serbia I wish this country all the best, Serbia deserves to get back on its feet again and become an important country in the region. Serbians deserve a better life.

Ned Taylor, I wish you all the best and the 100th birthday party but Serbia will join the EU. On the 1st of September 2013 Serbia becomes the associated state, like it or not.

Yeah but not a member state of the EU, Serbia will just be a country officially associated with the EU. I think a realistic date for Serbia joining the EU could be 2022, if Serbia is lucky.
