Nestle is a company of which a CEO once said that the idea that water is a basic human right is 'extreme' and that water is a commodity. Nestle has several brands of bottled water. Nestle was also trying to patent the herb fennel for its digestive properties. Nestle once pushed baby formula in Africa by distributing it freely to mothers in hospitals. Once they left the hospitals the formula was of course not for free anymore and some mothers were not able to go back to breastfeeding. The result was that they had to buy expensive formula and that because of the lack of clean drinking water the formula was contaminated resulting in the death of many babies.
I somewhat doubt the words that the food culture in the Balkans is important for the company. Food culture is important anywhere in Europe but what you see more and more is that food becomes 'one size fits all'.
