Whatever the future of KFOR in Kosovo, there is not now or will there ever be a government over Kosovo in Pristina. The Albanians in Kosovo are unfit to govern there and unfit to field an army. The best they can hope for, and this is what they are getting now, is supervised autonomy. Pristina is a gangster state and under Albanian rule will not be anything but that for the foreseeable future. This is why we need the EU and the UN in there. NATO has yet to prove its usefulness to stability in the Balkans.

And meanwhile, what of KFOR? What is to become of Bondsteel?
(Paul, 28 July 2013 22:25)
KFOR will not leave anytime soon, at least not until there is a firm commitment that Serbia is no longer a threat to Kosovo. And then NATO will probably remain anchored in Kosovo as a monitoring presence with the invitation of the Pristina govt.
As far as Bondsteel, most likely it will either be turned over to the Kosovo govt or used as a joint base for US and Kosovo soldiers. It is not likely that the US will ever totally withdraw from Kosovo, if only as a mentor role for local forces.

Serbia had no saying in the matter, but they like to lie to its own people, and made it look like the Serbian government gave the ok to EULEX mission.Stop fooling yourself guys&gils.
(the truth, 26 July 2013 17:04)

Wrong... Serbs like to think they are the masters of the universe. That means that:

- Kosovo can only become a member of international organizations if Serbia allows it
- Countries can recognize Kosovo only if Serbia allows them
- Kosovo can be independent from Serbia, only if Serbia allows it
- UNMIK personel can only be reduced if Serbia allows it
- EULEX can only be in Kosovo if Serbia allows it
- EULEX can only leave Kosovo if Serbia allows it

So, let's imagine for a moment that the last point happens without Serbia allowing it. Serbia will then order Eulex to return and Eulex will immediately do it :)

(Balkan Anthropologist, 26 July 2013 14:09)

EULEX and Kosovo politicians want the same: The rule of law, and persecuting crimes. Only what kind of law it is and what is considered a crime, there's a small difference between western law and mafia kind 'law and honor'.

So, all you internet warriors, take a deep breath, support the rule of law, do not support the politicians wealth because they do not want you any good. They only want you to shut up, be afraid and to look away.
Unmik and Eulex takes care of these gangsters, even if it takes time ! You will see !

Dear people ! It is by no means fruitful to try to explain something for people who does not understand, who doesn't want to understand and who are not capable to understand. Kosovo, as we speak (maybe different in the future, who knows)is a Serbian disputed province. Fact and indisputable. Then people living there can say or believe whatever they want but the UNSC res 1244 is valid. No discussion about that.
Eulex works under this resolution. No discussion. The only ones who can say that Eulex will withdraw from Kosovo is; 1. UNSC 2. EU itself
Why did Eulex come to Kosovo in the first place ?
To continue to work against organized crime, corruption, war crimes from both sides, missing people and a few more things.
Have they been successful ? Well, most of those things takes time in any place. The success have not been splendid but quite fair if looking back.
Will Eulex continue after June 2014 ? The answer is 100% yes. Because even if the Kosovo government produce a house full of resolutions, they do not make the calls and Eulex have a fairly 60-70 % of the cases to take care of, ie war crimes (will go higher and higher in the hierarchy), organized crime (many who are enjoying the summer in their wealth will spend many years behind bars in the future), corruption (this is the tricky part because it is a daily routine in Kosovo and Balkans), missing people (many years of work ahead).

Continued.

"Serbia and a number of countries had initially strictly objected to the mission and supported UNMIK, demanding approval by the United Nations Security Council, which was rendered in late 2008.[1] After signing a 5-point plan between Serbia and the UN, the UN SC approved the addition of the EULEX as an assistance mission subjected to the UNMIK, rather than outright replacing it, which would be technical in essence and not address the Kosovo status question, also rejected the Ahtisaari plan which the EULEX had originally supported."

Serbia has no say, and neither do the Pristina authorities. Eulux will leave when the EU says so. What can Pristina authorities do about it-other than quit co-operating with the EU.That would be a disaster of the seperatists own making! Lets see your "glourious dardinian State" exist economicly or politicaly on its own merit without outside aid. Do you think Tirana will back you up!

The EULEX mission arrived in Kosovo in December 2008 with the Serbian government's consent, after months of talks which resulted in a legal framework for its operation.

Hajredin Kuci, Kosovo's deputy prime minister and justice minister, said during the debate that "EULEX is a result of an agreement between Kosovo and the EU and the mission will leave in the same way."

Oh, really? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_Union_Rule_of_Law_Mission_in_Kosovo

"The European Union Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo, EULEX Kosovo, is a deployment of European Union (EU) police and civilian resources to Kosovo. This Common Security and Defence Policy mission is the international civil presence in Kosovo operating under the umbrella of the United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) established by United Nations Security Council Resolution 1244."
