In the US Zimmerman was just aquited, and in recent week all the news has been about the NSA spying on people. Now they pick up on this minor crook and try to make it like its worse somewhere else. Questioner says if it had been a friend of Putin, he wouldn't have been convicted. We don't know that, but what we all know is that if this convict was not an opposition figure against Putin, no one would care that he was convicted. It is as if any opposition to Putin must make some one a saint

I think this is an example of the west trying to draw attention away from itself. Recently, the president of Equador said:
Don’t come lecturing us about liberty.. here we haven’t invaded anyone, here we don’t torture like in Guantanamo, here we don’t have drones killing alleged terrorists without any due trial, also killing the women and children of those supposed terrorists.

So don’t come lecturing us about life, law, dignity, or liberty. You do not have the moral right to do so. ”

Navalny is an otpor-esque US agent and a traitor to his homeland. I doubt there are many in Russia who are overly upset at the verdict.

Navalny is a nasty nationalist nobody with minimal public support. He also hates anyone from the Caucasus and wants to deport them all south.

In Kirov, he was supposed to be an unpaid advisor to govenor Byelik on KirovLes but he upset everyone and made it worse. Then he ran away from Kirov when questions were asked and took no responsibility. His cretin in arms Opalev plea bargained and admitted his guilt.

Navalny thought he could make some easy money a la 1990s method but came unstuck. Not only that, he denied absolutely everything. He lied and covered up. You can read his and Opalev's hacked emails on politrash.ru.

Questioner

During the trial, Navalny and his lawyers insisted that it was "a political process," and said the authorities had launched it "in retaliation for his political activity."

I don't know if you can call it a political process, but one thing is sure: If he were a friend of the Putin regime and not an opposition politician and would have done the things he's accused of, he wouldn't be before court. Let's better call it: Selective justice, forget about fight against corruption within the ruling elite around Putin.
