accession negotiations with Montenegro started on 29 June 2012, since then they have only opened 2 easy chapters (and closed them the same day!). Montenegro is lagging behind Serbia as I see it, they should hurry or Serbia will overtake them soon.

There is no specific date + there is a specific set of conditions to be met before any EU accession negotiations can begin.

The EU has a history of putting decisions off, not least when Germany is one of the dissenters. I can only assume that there is some fear in Berlin that the Belgrade/Pristina agreement is a ruse designed by Thaci and Dacic to set their countries on the one way path to the EU. Once that train is in motion (no country that has started talks has ever failed to join eventually) they can backslide. Maybe Angela wants to see some firmer evidence of the agreement working in practice, in which case she is in for a long wait.

This is how I understood this:
Serbia will start membership talks in January 2014, the exact day will probably be determined in the EU's summit in December, the talks will begin with a conference held in January next year, the date can not conditional as they decided to open the negotiations in Jan at the latest, no matter what happens till then. Am I correct? :S

Even though the last ratification of the SAA of Bosnia was completed long before Serbia (Belgrade are still waiting for Lithuania to "green light" Serbia's SAA); Even though Macedonija was made an official EU-candidate almost a decade a go; And even Albania got its application processed by EU before Serbia was; Serbia is suddenly beeing rushed through towards opening negotiations, even as Belgrade still is far from reaching European standards required, on such things as reducing corruption, media freedom and even the simplest, most basic fundamental rules on a ban on nepotism in public offices and banking.

Among the applicant nations, only the Icelandic people express a stronger EUrosceptisism than the Serbs (both inside southern Serbia, and even stronger especially among the Serbian diaspora). In the whole Balkans, EUrosceptisism are strongest among the Serbs. Already today a higher percentage of Serbs are sertain to vote against the EU, than those who voted No in the Croatian referendum (34 % percent voted No in Croatia). The Campaign against EU in Croatia reached 10.000 supporters on internet on referendum day in January 2012. But this was to late, to save the future of Croatia from the clutches of the 4. EU-Reich.
The Serbian EUrosceptics already have stronger symphaty among ordinary Serbs, than was the case in Croatia. I wonder how far the Serbian EUrosceptics will be able to reach, in the remaining time? Will the Serbian EUrosceptics be able to turn enough potential symphathy into actual votes, Before its to late?

The reason why Serbia suddenly are being rushed through (just like Iceland was and Euro-expansion to engulf Estonia and Latvija is), is that Eurocrats, both in Brussels and in Belgrade, have lately beginned to start panicing. The Eurocrats and their lap-dogs in Belgrade have discovered that EUrosceptisism is growing steadily among ordinary Serbian folks (following the footsteps of Iceland and England). So, the elites are sceeming to secure their private privilegies in Brussels, before too many Serbs discovers what's going on.
The Eurocrats may even try to play the artificial "financial crisis" card and deliberately undermine the economy of the Serbs in the run up to the referendum, just as they did to Icelanders. Luckily the Icelanders revealed this scam, before they was trapped inside the EU-glue.
I wonder if enough ordinary Serbs will discover the EU-plot in time?
Hopefully they might do just that, for the freedom of their Children and grand-childrens sake.

All that anyone needs to remember is this is nothing more than a date to begin "accession negotiations". It is going to be very, very tough for the EU to dodge this date. If it does, then Serbia is not ever going to be admitted into the EU and there is no point in trying.

Meanwhile, everything that ought to be happening with Kosovo is going to keep happening. There is nothing the EU can do any more about this one way or the other. Talks between Serbs and Albanians are going to continue. Serbia is not going to give up Kosovo.

Once negotiations actually begin, this is where it could get ugly. Because this is where the EU is going to have to spell out exactly what the role of Kosovo is in Serbia's EU integration. If the EU has separate accession in store for Kosovo, then Kosovo and the EU is going to have to show how they are eligible for EU accession. I'm no scholar on the subject, but I know as well as anyone, it is not even close.
