Administrators of the European Parliament's official Facebook page have "welcomed" Croatia - which is set to join the EU - with a serious blunder.

The first square in the Croatian arms has alternated from red to white over the centuries. If there was a "U" above the arms that would be fascist and offensive. The situation in Croatia prior to WW2 was much different than Germany. The Ustasi were exiled Croats who did not represent the people (Macek and the Croatian Peasant Party had the people's support). That is partially why the Ustashi reintroduced historical symbols and elements into their platform. The unfortunate consequence has been people mistaken these symbols as fascist where the only real fascist symbol used was the "U."

Children,

Just because a GRB start with a white square doesn’t mean it only relates to NDH. Was King Tomislav an Ustasa??? He saved Serbs from extermination.

Please..... stop embarrassing yourselves.

Me never going back to Serbia wouldn't magically fix it. Me stopping to articulate all the things that are funny and strange about this part of the world aren't going to make them not funny and strange because I haven't said it.
=========================
You never going back would make it less polluted.
You not mentioning it being strange and funny isn't going to make any difference because the place is neither strange nor funny.
Your opinion means nothing at all. It's only an opinion of one Serb hating man.
But what is strange is you going back to a place you think so little of. Why?

Peggy

Seriously do you really think anybody gives a rats about Jasenovac other then a few drunken toothless partizans. Thank god YU has turned to ash.

lol @ "racist". Serbs, croats, albanians, what have you aren't "races".

I move all over the place, Peggy. Cross an international boundary at least every three weeks. What's with your obsession of where I happen to be? I go where my obligations demand, like most people.

Nah, I think we'll both just stay as we are. Me, in my weird protracted adventure-capitalism (mis)adventure and you in beautiful Australia constantly angry about a place you've probably only visited a handful of times.

and seriously.... what's up with all the angry hobby-serbs using "beloved" in this sarcastic way. You all do it :) Why do you infer that Croatia is "beloved" to me? fyi, I think Croatia is part of the same piece of crap, dangling from the a**hole of europe, that Serbia is.

Josipovic is a good politician and a stellar diplomat, though. If only all ex-yu countries had their Josipovic. I just don't understand why, in every single photograph of him, it looks like he's just soiled his pants. Seriously. do a google image search

I find sometimes surprising how b92 occasionally panders to the "OMFG ALL SERBIA'S NEIGHBOURS ARE FASCISTS WHO HATE US BECAUSE WE'RE AWESOME" narcissistic crybabies.

That's because we are you racist ......... Now if you hate us so much why don't you move to your beloved Croatia and have tea parties with Josipivoc? Seriously, why do you put up with us? Move.

Really MikeD? You really going with the 'it's no mistake' thing, and that the EP on the eve of Croatia's accession did this on purpose? Talk us through your insider thinking as to how the EP benefits from this, II need cheering up.

Can you imagine if the Nazi flag had been put there by mistake?

Come to think of it, the Croatian flag used during WWI, brings to many people in the Balkans, the same visceral response as the Nazi flag.

..and Danilo - if you can't get Prozac in Serbia try some Saint John's Wort. Eat loads of it.

Ian,UK - Who cares, you ask?

If, most of your family was burned alive in an Eastern Orthodox church, that was located in the Independent State of Croatia, you would care.
Your callousness against the Serbs is chronic and very apparent.

"If you forget history, you're doomed to repeat it".
MikeD

I agree. If you look at the last 100 years of Serbian history you will see a lot of conflicts started and lost by Serbia.
Yet, you have way too many Serbs who have not learned from history and wouldn't mind repeating some of the same mistakes.

MikeD

It is news. It's incredibly insulting to several nationalities in Eastern Europe. Like the saying goes, "If you forget history, you're doomed to repeat it". By the way, I don't believe that it really was a mistake either. In this day and age with the internet, there are several websites including Croatian government websites where one can obtain an image of the proper flag.

Danilo

It's true, Ian.
