There is a very old saying. It’s hard to fly like an eagle when surrounded by turkeys.
Perhaps you could have made mention of that fact to the Americans during the two gulf wars plus Afghanistan, but for your edification large numbers of troops and equipment are more easily transported via ground not air.

"NATO wants access to Serbia not just cooperation because it takes 3 days from Berlin to Istanbul via Serbia, but 7 days if they go around it. "

The US has the same level of corruption but the so called free press never talks about it. Your politicians are all in the pockets of multinationals and all you hear is what’s good for Microsoft etc is good for you.

On imprisoning the opposition, the US has no opposition at all – vote for democrat or republican and all you get is more of the same. However, if there was an opposition most would be in prison. Any move to unseat the incumbent power in Washington would be met with brutal force and don’t kid yourself. Hey they have held power for the last 160 years and they are not about to let go.

They are already listening to all conversations in the US and that’s not because of terrorist, but simply they want to stifle any opposition to the current rule. You are living in the 1930s Soviet Union under Stalin and they are telling you there is nothing to worry about.

I never said that Serbia is a positive or negative to the EU in economics. I have repeatedly stated that Serbia can stand on its own and live very well.

NATO wants access to Serbia not just cooperation because it takes 3 days from Berlin to Istanbul via Serbia, but 7 days if they go around it. The Russians are already in “NATO territory”. What do you think is on the huge base in Nis? Fire fighting equipment? NATO has nothing in Georgia. NATO is finished – it has lost a major conflict in Afghanistan using the so called most advanced equipment

I did not mention that Serbia was a cure to the EU’s problems. I’ll let you in on a little secret, the EU problems are incurable because it is now so far into debt/crises, like the US, the financial system is looking at ways to “read the last rights” to bury them without damaging the rest of the world economy. There is nothing to join. Slovenia went belly up and Brussels has not lifted a finger.
I said that of all the Balkan states Serbia has the POTENTIAL to get out of this economic quagmire and achieved an excellent standard of living provided people worked hard. Serbia has water, energy, minerals and the largest arable territory in the entire region.

Mr. PM. You mean we are closer to self-destruction. I really hope you and Vucic have a plan before this deal gets signed, if not, May God help us all.

A wise and able diplomacy, heightened with constant lobbying and political activity can lead to a favorable outcome for Serbia. Knowledge of geopolitical ideas of superpower would greatly contribute to the right positioning.

Serbia has all these resources, eh? Who knew that Serbia was the cure to the EU's problems hahaha

But it will be close to a decade at the earliest before Serbia joins the EU, so oh no what is Europe going to do now?!?!

The talks could begin but never ever end until Serbia does Germany's main demand and that is recognize Kosova independence formally and officially and not just have euphemisms like laiason officer and administrative crossings and all that nonsense. Once Serbia recognizes Kosova independence the talks would have an end date.

For the first time in history you made a post, I almost agree with. You are still blind to Serbian importance, it must be a genetic trait. Serbia has great potential but it also has the same problems most of the Balkans and eastern Europe including Russia have and that is deep deep rooted corruption that will stagnate development and success. Certainly, you are not falling for the Serbian goal to clean up corruption game plan (stolen from Russia) where all the opposition leaders are arrested for corruption and no one in the ruling parties.
The real importance of Serbia to the EU and NATO is it is a wild card. Without controlling Serbia there will never be peace and harmony in the Balkans. I do not believe anyone is looking at Serbia as a positive to the EU especially in the field of economics.
While NATO wants Serbian cooperation but I do not think that anyone is looking at Serbia joining or at least not in the near future. It is more important that Serbia is an island. As long as that is Russia will not be any real threat unless a full scale war is in place. Just like NATO is not going to rush into Georgia (they provide cooperative support) Russia is not going to start true military interventions inside NATO's domain.
So while I agree with you on Serbia's importance our reasoning is actually miles apart.

Giving Serbia a date is meaningless when the talks on meeting conditions will take many years to fulfil before joining the EU.
Serbia is important to the EU but it’s even more important to NATO or what will soon follow NATO given its geographical position and it is a known fact that it is only Serbia of all the other Balkan states that has the means to achieve a high standard of living simply because it has all the resources on its territory. The two most touted to succeed after the breakup of Yugoslavia, Slovenia and Croatia, speak for themselves; Slovenia is broke and massive structural adjustment have to take place with lowering of wages and pensions. Croatia is not too far behind Slovenia. Neither have the natural resources at their disposal to achieve good standards of living without EU subsidies.
Now the EU does not want another “invalid’ to look after especially with the current GFC so they are very careful in taking any more members on board that need constant injection of money just to survive. Croatia is there because of Germany, but Berlin will regret the day they let them in because Croatia will be a burden now and 150 years from now.
The EU now has more countries with their palms stretched out for a helping hand than are actually producing income.

The EU is incredible........you can't believe a word they say. Please don't let them drag Serbia into this cesspit/snakepit you have better fish to fry and can fry them on your own so long as corruption is dealt with seriously. The EU is just as corrupt as the present political elite in Serbia and that's why THEY are so keen to join!! Rise up you Serbs and cleanse your country, apparently they think you are good at cleansing.. they accused you of it often enough. Maybe that's why it hasn't happened yet. You actually never did any cleansing before?? The time to start is NOW.

In my personal all the states of Yugoslavia should have been admitted all at the same time.
(luciano, 21 June 2013 21:24)

While your idea seems fair and equitable on the surface, problem is when one of those countries of former Yugo. slow the rest of the others down and that in itself could be used as a politcal dymanic.

The best process for EU intergration is the one in place now - each country on its merits according to a strict criterea. No other countries progress or stalling has any bearing on anothers.

No matter how much I like Serbs it does amuse me when I hear Serbs like Bubba here overestimate their importance to the EU.How is the EU credibility at stake if you have any present members who do not want Serbia to join at this time?In my personal all the states of Yugoslavia should have been admitted all at the same time.

Questioning the credibility of the EU surfaced long before their member nation's helicopter was shot down in the territory of SFRY (SFRJ).
