What's the point of investing in a steel mill when world prices of steel are dropping and very few mills these days turn a profit. US Steel tried and failed. Don't tell me that the Ukrainians are going to make a better job of it. This is just popular talk which only purpose is to buy votes. Unless the mill in Smederevo is completely privatised the country will eventually end up paying the bills for its failings.
Next. What chance does Ukraine have of becoming a member of the EU with Yanukovych at the helm. Nil! He is a dictator who puts his political opponents in jail. By signing deals with this tyrant Nikolic is inadvertently condoning this man's practice.
We'll end up giving away valuable resources just like we did with NIS and Srbijagas.
These politicians, they are all the same.

Serbian President Tomislav Nikolić said starting up production in Smederevo is very important for the country, calling the steel mill "Serbia's lifeline."

Most likely a dead weight for sinking Serbia's economy and finances some time Serbia has to face cold reality. Croatian Glina metal works already has the corner of Ex Yugo no need for Serbia's.

Ukraine, as one of the world's top ten steel producers, certainly has an interest in taking over the company through a public-private partnership, said the Serbian president. Sounds like Ukraine wants Serbian government pay the expensive modernization and subsidy's to get it working. If it starts making profit Ukraine will take over if not Serbia will be stuck with more debt good deal for Ukraine.
