We are made of stone when it comes to Syria, and Qusair is proof positive of this.
As for the U.N., it is impotent as presently constituted. Why even bother to have it around?
We need another world body with power to timely act when need be. The results of inaction are now all over the Middle East, and we reap what we have sowed.
Yes we were naïve to expect neighboring countries to remain indifferent while the Syrian people on both sides suffer.

Do you seriously believe “send arms to the Syrian Rebels to help them combat Terrorism, Jihadism and Islamist Extremism in Syria”????Most of those “rebels” are religious nutters. Who do you think armed the freedom fighters in Libya? And they turned out to be Islamic fundamentalists? And now we find that even Donald Rumsfeld is against removing Assad because of the string of US failures across the middle east and north Africa. He was interviewed on US TV only two days ago.
Assad has so far only used about 10% of his military assets and up to now all sides have been restrained in arming their favourite sides, but if this goes though then its open slather and more deaths because the west is in a hurry to win a war they can never win. Places like the UK can ill afford to spend more money on useless wars as its budget is creaking. It will be a choice of fund wars or reduce first world services as the UK is sacking 1600 government workers every month and it is rumoured to pick up pace to the tune of 2000. In the meantime, UK academics have released a study which even shocked them where it was shown that 1/5 of the population either borrows money or dips into their savings to buy food.

It is well known that Assad, Iran and Russia have been arming and financing hardcore radical Jihadist Islamist terrorists for some time now in Syria, all to keep Assad's terrorist backed regime going.

It is only fair for the EU to send arms to the Syrian Rebels to help them combat Terrorism, Jihadism and Islamist Extremism in Syria.

The Syrian Rebels are not trained and they lack equipment. They are fighting against the Iranian Army, Assad's Army and tens of thousands of foreign imported Jihadist terrorists all of which are armed to the teeth with fancy Russian and Iranian military equipment.

Despite outnumbering the Syrian Rebels, despite having superior weapons and military equipment from Russian, despite having a foreign intervention from Iran and tens of thousands of foreign Islamist terrorists; Assad and chums are unable to defeat the will of the Syrian people!

Hey Lenard, did you hear that? Now the mighty mighty Croatian army can send about a dozen elite klapa singers to wipe out the Asad regime and establish a new empire of Croatian testosterone that will stretch from the ruins of Banja Luka to the borders of Iran where your ancestors came from.

When you come back from the war, please do your mother a favor and clean the pots and wooden spoons you borrowed when you went off to play soldier. She'll thank you and give you enough allowance money so you can take a nice little Croatian girl to the next Turbo folk concert you attend.

Just a few facts about Syria, and its current terrorist problem:

In response to protestors’ demands, Damascus made a number of concessions that were neither superficial nor partial.

First, it cancelled the long-standing abridgment of civil liberties that had been authorized by the emergency law. The law, invoked because Syria is technically in a state of war with Israel, gave Damascus powers it needed to safeguard the security of the state in wartime, a measure states at war routinely take. Many Syrians, however, chaffed under the law, and regarded it as unduly restrictive. Bowing to popular pressure, the government lifted the security measures.

Second, the government proposed a new constitution to accommodate protestors’ demands to strip the Ba’ath Party of its special status, which had reserved for it a lead role in Syrian society. Additionally, the presidency would be open to anyone meeting basic residency, age and citizenship requirements. Presidential elections would be held by secret vote every seven years under a system of universal suffrage.

Despot: doesn't sound like it.
Tyrant: I'm not convinced either.
Actually cares for the citizens: seems more palpable than how some rich western countries care for their own people.

The same Moslem cutthroats who murdered a British soldier on the streets of London are now going to be armed and trained by the British army to kill Syrians who have the temerity to defend their country from foreign invasion.

Where is our Jihadist friend, Ian (UK), to tell us how his buddy who ate the heart of a murdered Syrian soldier differs from those who beheaded a British soldier on the streets of Woolwich?
