Adopting a 'neutral' position is very different from telling one party to attack the other then doing a complete policy U turn and attacking the former. Makes no sense at all...

April Glaspie, US ambassador to Iraq was asked by Saddam what the US position was re Kuwait if Iraq decided to 'resolve' their dispute. American vaciliation/absence of objection led Saddam to believe that he could get on with it. DUH!

"America was never anti-Albanian."

In all fairness President Woodrow Wilson defended Albania from further amputation from our "friendly neighbors in Serbia,"Macedonia",Montenegro and Greece after our Declaration of Independnance of 1912.

So please don't continue embarassing yourself trying to lecture Albanians on Albanian History.

Nenad, How very heartening to read your comment. I, too, feel that changes are underway in Serbia and there's hope for a better future. My biggest fear has always been that Serbia will bleed away its finest young people, and end up a country watered down to very little but an old population living on pensions. And that would be a tragedy indeed. Serbia has so much to offer if only given an environment to flourish -- and, most importantly, can finally let go of a past that can't be changed.

I've heard some outlandish theories in my time but this: 'Clinton told Milosevic to attack the Albanians' brings it to a new level.

Next we will be hearing how Milosevic attacking Albanians would help to get Clinton re-elected.

But lets straighten this one up. Iraq, Falklands - ambiguous diplomatic messages sent by west letting Argentina and Iraq know that little / no action would be taken by said west if they moved in to Falklands / Kuwait.

You have to go back in time to come up wiht Joe Biden being anti serbs. Why don't you go back a little further to WW2 when America as a whole was anti albanian? Don't blame Biden for having made a misstake. Joe knows thye supported the wrong side in this war. I think you also know that America don't have any respect for lapdogs. A lapdog is exactley what albanians are.

Anna, you are absolutely right, and I think many Serbs still living in Serbia would generally agree with your views (and several from that camp post on this site). Don't let the ultra-nationalists get you down. Til death, they'll buy into the steady diet of myths force-fed to them by nationalist politicians and clergy of the last quarter century. Fortunately, their grip on Serbian politics and society is slowly loosening. When you see parties like SPS and SNS steering Serbia toward the EU, you know that things have begun to change. Maybe in another decade or two, Serbia would start to appear as a country like Poland does now...we shall see. In any case, things are bound to happen slowly and painfully.

Ivan,
I happen to be a Serb - an a very educated one at that. I've been to Belgrade so many times and saw beautiful, vibrant Serbian youth wasting their best years in cafes drinking coffee -- they can't find jobs and are forced to still live with their parents. All I'm suggesting is that it's time to let go of the past, and concentrate on the present and the future. Your children deserve better than this.

Grobar1,

I was in Serbia on Orthodox Easter, March 1999. No Bombs fell on Serbia that day, what NATO refused to do was order a halt on bombing, knowing Milosevic would try to divide the alliance.

If you have a clue as to what is going on it would be a revelation. Like a typycal ignorant anti-Serb, you regeritate the same trash. This is not about Milosevic nor the Albanians, this is about geo-politics and the imperialist Americans. Clinton told Milosevic to attack the Albanians only to stab him in the back later, much like Saddham Hussein. This was in the plans before you were even born. It's about the US inching away towards Russia. There's worst opression, supression, and poverty all around the world, why aren't the Americans down there to fight for righteousness, democracy, freedom, and apple pie. Answer: Because there's nothing in it for them. So if you have anything intelligent to say, think with your mind and not with your rear.

The U.S. didn't destroy Serbia ... Serbians and their elected politicians did that -- especially over the last 10 years. Do those of you who remain ever ask yourselves why the most gifted and intelligent young Serbians leave your country as soon as they can get out? Where are any hopes of new blood, new leadership and new statesmen? They're in the West -- escaping filthy politics and a dead end economy, and they're getting a real chance for a prosperous, democratic life. And what has saved your country from total financial collapse are the massive amounts of money this young talent sends back home to their Serbian families.

ivan

Dacic looks pathetic in the company of the very people that destroyed his country. I would not even spit at Biden, let alone smile with him. I guess after that picture was taken, Dacic was asked to bend down for the rest of the Americans to take their turn.
