For a change some constructive comments from you I happen to agree with for a change where the sinking EU Titanic is concerned. WE are all in this boat together, and when it goes down WE ALL go down with it, no matter the nationality or religion mate. The Serbian government are making a huge mistake as has Croatia in joining this suicidal club. The people in the UK want a referendum which thus far we have been denied. Countries have to have the freedom to run their own affairs, and if we make mistakes along the way they will be our own and we alone are to blame for them. The EU will be the end of Europe as we know it if the people don't stand and say no to the idiots ruining people's lives, all politicians are bent and only in it for what they can get for themselves. I'm all for out of the so called EU, bad news for all.

LOLOL this is why I call Ian and the ideology he supports extremist. This isn't just because of his personal Serbophobic racism but also because the union he supports is rapidly heading in the direction of superstate with common budgets and economic policies. To willingly handover your country's capital and transfer it outside your borders is a very extremist view and one just as dangerous as neo-Nazism.

Europeans are waking up. The EU is anti European. Europe is the smallest continent in the world and yet the most diverse. The EU is attempting to morph all these differences into one European identity. Well this is exactly why we don't see the Soviet Union, Czechoslovakia and Yugoslavia on the map anymore. And the EU will fail as well.

In a not to distant future the only european countries in the EU will be former Yugoslav Republics, Romanis and Bulgaria. To bad our government in Belgrade are such idiots that they dont realize the EU is a sinking ship.
(MikeC, 14 May 2013 18:51) Well Mike SS Serbia is even faster sinking ship they hope to get off and jump on the SS EU Titanic. To keep afloat just a little longer and get some extra perks for betraying Serbia. Before it goes down the betrayers government pirates hope to jump off on to a palm tree island with all their ill gotten loot before it all goes down. It's doggy eat doggy world out their Mike. The survival of the fittest craftiest liars before the masses relies the plain old truth staring them in the face. That they've been duped royally and their fate is sealed that goes for my Croatia. A little hope only 30% Croatians voted to join the EU pie in the sky nonsense out of all the eligible voters.

"Is this the EU that Romanian elites promised you would ensure your future prosperity? A shrinking failing EU basket case Eurozone is somehow supposed to be good for Romania is it Mircea? Chaining you to a rotting corpse in the vain ludicrous hope that God will bring it back to life and you will live happily ever after when the commissars finally succeed on creating a workable magic wand and fairy dust. Castles in the air and living on fantasy Island where dreams come true and miracles really happen.

Just as we witnessed the bloody break-up of Yugoslavia and the old USSR, so the EU will be destroyed by countries demanding their ethnic freedom from corrupt centralism. Maybe not in 2 years, maybe not in 5 but certainly the longer it exists the more bloody the catastrophic end. The EU - and its obsession with becoming an empire and with preserving the single-currency-folly - is destroying southern Europe."

"According to the survey, the only other nation that can match Germans in the narcissism department are the Greeks, who consider themselves the most reliable, generous and least prone to arrogance - an opinion that is not shared by any of the other participating nations. "

I would like to add this information to the survey. The amount of immigrants from South and East Europe reached a new high since the unification of Germany. In 2012, around 1 million people, especially from Spain and Greece, entered Germany.

Bottom line, I can say that this is not a surprise. Germany productivity is unmatched by all economies in Europe and presumably world wide. There is such a hype for German products that many companies cannot fulfill all requests. My salary (mechanical engineer) almost doubled within 5 years. Our company now hires engineers from Spain which are also very good, but cost only half. It works and everyone is happy since the Spaniard can move on.

But there also other successful examples in Europe. I'm impressed by the performance of companies like Dacia. They found the perfect market and produce products which can described as requirement-fulfilling. Not even the French mother, Renault, can keep up the pace. Since EU accession, Dacia's output has more than trippled and is still growing, while all traditional low budget car maker countries such as Spain, France and Italy are very sluggish. It is a successful story.

Well, and there are countries like Greece and Cyprus. I would not say that there are economically shrinking. Somebody just deflates the hot air, bringing them back where they actually belong in terms of performance. There is still to much air, but they will hit the ground.

The EU is under selling itself as a free trade area but antagonising people by being too centrist politically and administratively. The attempted federalist union has not attracted widespread support. People see the EU as undermining their local national concerns. The European parliament is anonymous - voters take far more note of their national governments.

Current economic circumstances make it difficult for pro-EU supporters to make their case - anti-EUers are driving an anti agenda.

Being in the same club has advantages, but that is being forgotten because the EU is too governmental. I argue that the EU should partially disempower itself - possibly by making the European Parliament refer its deliberations back to national parliaments.

The unified legal framework provided by the EU has much to recommend it, and even a unified currency is desirable if it can be made to work, but it is hard for people to support the EU when it is seen as external and impositional. The EU can't function in the same democratic way as national governments because few know who the Eurocrats are and what party machinery is to be voted in or out.

Sebia should join the EU, but should associate itself with the review and modernisation that the EU needs. The EU is not Germany and France alone. There are other countries with whom collaboration is possible to modifying the EU - from the inside.

Being outside means relative powerlessness.

Suzana Grubješić, Serbia’s Minister for EU Integration, summed up accidently the benefits of joining the EU when she went to a local Belgrade high school and invited questions from the students.
One asked what financial benefit was there to Serbia to join the EU? The Minister’s response was “no one should expect any money from Brussels because there is no money left....” and a swift retort came from another student “if that is the case then why join because we have seen what has happened to Slovenia and they have certainly have not prospered”?
I always address this topic with money because that is the bottom line – everyone expects a mountain of cash and riches forever. Ask the Croats if they get their expected 11 billion Euros. Croatia will be on the same level as Romania or Bulgaria.
Get over it Serbia there is no money left.

The EU is a very successful project and it has a bright future.

The EU will continue to expand. Soon the EU will have 28 Member States. Croatia will join the EU on 1 July.

The Eurozone will continue to expand. The Eurozone will have 18 Member States in January 2014.

Latvia will adopt the Euro on 1 January 2014.
