Spartan,
There's already a de facto Greater Albania. Albanians can move in Albania, Kosova, and Macedonia only with a photo ID, there are unified school programs, military cooperation, newly built highways connecting all ethnic Albanian lands (more being built) , free trade agreements, academic and artistic exchanges ect. More importantly, we feel one integrated nation. I feel home when I have a coffe in the beautiful Prizren center, and Kosovars feel home in their vacation homes and businesses in the Adriatic beach. Anything else is wishful thinking and simply not recognizing the reality on the ground. As far as threatening Albania with ceasing from being a country, I would remind you that this is an ancient desire of some of your ancesters. They failed when Albania was a poor, backward , friendless ,feudal state. Why would you think today would be different?

"...multi-ethnic Kosovo under...Serbia..."

What the hell was Serbia's achievement in Kosova? ethnic expulsion is not something to boast about. There was zero economy, piss poor human rights record, war and a massive population drain. we all saw how much Serbia truly reveres. 'Kosovo', it burned it, pillaged it and now it cries foul. you Ari Gold, have no idea what you're talking about. however bad kosova is today, its still INFINITELY better than it ever was at ANY point under Serbia. Serbs only want to Kosova so they can reminisce about having stood up to thew Ottoman hordes, they have no idea what do with it apart from expelling the Albanians who live here

Best thing to prevent that is to support a multi-ethnic Kosovo
(Danilo, 12 May 2013 14:21)

So why can't you support a multi-ethnic Kosovo under the sovereignty of Serbia which it legally is? This territory ruled by the West and locally managed by the Albanians has done nothing to achieve this utopia. The 2004 pogrom alone was organized violence against the Serbs of Kosovo i Metohija was enough to prove this.

You don't recognize the idea that Serbia should even have any national interests. Its an extremist ideology in that country and is just as dangerous to Serbian society as neo-Nazi extremist groups.

“I'd say that Serbs apparently found that out for Slovenia. Lately, Serbs have started to get very concerned about the well being of Kosovo, Slovenia, and other countries :)

As for the Slovenes, they never thought that EU streets are paved with gold. Rather they did a much simpler calculation; are they going to be better off inside or outside the EU and decided for the former and the data shows they made the correct decision which is why Slovenes don't want to get out of the EU, despite Serbs concern for Slovenia's well being.

But, I do understand where you are coming from. For Serbs, if paradise can't be achieved, then life in hell is fine and nothing in between is acceptable.
(icj1, 12 May 2013 17:13)”

Oh, I wouldn’t go to the extent of saying that the Serbs have become “very concerned about the well being of …… Slovenia” …… perhaps more like they don’t wanna get caught in the same fix in the future and so perhaps take this as a lesson.

As for your claim that “the data shows they made the correct decision ….”, well, that’s still left to be seen. Seems to me that they were recently showing angst about the EU rather than waxing lyrical about it.

Finally please prove your claim that “For Serbs, if paradise can’t be achieved, then life in hell is fine and nothing in between is acceptable”. And don't be so presumptuous as to claim that you understand where I was coming from -- because I certainly wasn't saying anything about the Serbs and paradise and hell.

Daniel you do not understand the agreement at all. The serbs are judges using the pristina legal system and are a part of the kosova court system. There is not an independent court nor is there an independent police. The police are all employees of pristina and pristina does decide who is the serb commander. THat is why serbs have to give a list to be chosen by pristina and if non are acceptable they keep going until pristina gets who it wants to enforce pristina law. Serb police are would all be under Albanian control.

If anything, it is the other way around. And this is the way it was at the beginning. More autonomy for Albanians with sound borders policed by Serbia. The Albanian gangster administration in KOSOVO is not fit to run a public lavatory let alone a country, and one thing is a certainty there will never be a greater Albania, if those people carry on as they are there will even be a smaller Albania and perhaps no Albania at all. Things have a funny way of turning about and it's just a matter of time before those people piss even their mates off over the pond.

Pristina has total dictatorial control over all aspects of police and courts. Albanians write all the rules and they hire serbs to administer their rules and laws and serbs have no power on any issue in any way whatsoever.
(Brian, 11 May 2013 22:03)

Yeah especially in northern kosovo with a Serb commander and 98%serb police albanians have all the powers. Pristina has to do what the serbs say when it comes to the regional police commander they HAVE to appoint one of 3 names that the serbs suggest and in north there will be serb run courts with no ties to Pristina whatsoever. That is if u have the guts to implement the deal :)

Serbs have the power to vote in Kosovo and, according to Kosovo's Constitution, a Serb's vote counts much more than the vote of an Albanian. If Serbia gave the same rights to Albanians, Kosovo would be happy to be in the same country with Serbia again. Instead, Serbia did not even allow Kosovo to vote for Serbia's Constitution, let alone to give them more rights.

Almost correct. Some European nations don't want an Islamist country that would be the largest country in Europe in their club - it would change too much that the Europeans believe is essential to their identity.

I still think some kind of associated status would be best for both the EU and for Turkey - Turkey is simply not a European country, it's been in opposition to Europe for its entire existence. Luckily, neither the size nor the European nature of Albania or Kosovo should pose a problem - they're simply historically European states that happen to be Muslim (mostly).

An american academic commenting on criminality and drug traffickers in other countries! If the good proffesor wants to learn first hand about gangs, drug dealers and criminals all he has to do is go to Chicago or any number of American cities which are divided along racial and economic lines and in which mass murder and criminality are a daily fact of life. In typical American fashion "his SH*T dont stink".

Whats next, will some American proffesor lecture the people of the Balkans on school shootings, or perhaps serial killers. The nation which created the modern street gang and spread gang culture throughout the world, the nation in which mass killings are an almost daily occurence now thinks it can lecture the world on criminality. Its like Al Capone lecturing someone on the dangers and pifalls of organized crime........come to think of it........who better to do that than Alphonse.

The good proffesor should now teach his students where Europe is on the map since most of his students cant find it on the map.

Don't blame the agreement for this. Blame the Ahitsaari Plan for which the agreement was forced to work within, has been pushed by key international powers in the West, and whose author received the Nobel Peace Prize. pfffft. Americans are sometimes so clueless. Kosovo i Metohija is more important to the Serbian nation than some fat corrupt commie (not talking about his protege Dacic this time) who was nothing but a sh** stain in Serbian history.

The agreement divides Kosovo i Metohija into these parts for now. But this was the case even before the agreement. But our Jerusalem is what defines the Serbian people and I am confident just like throughout history-it will be liberated.

The main threat of course comes from within. These commies turned liberals and extreme nationalists turned "Europeans". Because if the Serbian government willingly let go of Kosovo i Metohija, Serbia would be completely wiped off the map and this nation would turn into Chaldean's or Assyrians and have no country of their own.

Blame the Ahitsaari Plan for which the agreement was forced to work within, has been pushed by key international powers in the West, and whose author received the Nobel Peace Prize. Any threats of encouraging Greater Whatever are supported by these arrangements which give movements like Self-Determination and other Albanian movements horribly 20 years behind the times the idea that "Shqiperia Etnika" is right around the corner.

Serbia is all for partition. Sad, because it reminds me of the two ladies fighting over the baby and so it is decided the should cut it and each keep a half. Common sense tells you that the real mother would not let the baby be cut.

His article was complete nonsense and totally ridiculous and shows always how totally ignorant americans always are on all Balkan issues. Pristina has total dictatorial control over all aspects of police and courts. Albanians write all the rules and they hire serbs to administer their rules and laws and serbs have no power on any issue in any way whatsoever.

Agree, maybe it would be really the best to dissolve this stillborn pseudo-country called 'Kosovo' and 'append' the Albanian parts to Albania and the Serbian parts to Serbia.

I agree on certain things. So let's have Kosvoo province have special ties with Albania. Fine!
And let have RS have special ties with Serbia. Fine!

But no special deal for Kosovo!

If anything, it is the other way around. And this is the way it was at the beginning. More autonomy for Albanians with sound borders policed by Serbia. Pristina can govern itself within the context of borders defined by Serbia. Albanians are unfit to govern all of Kosovo and unfit to control borders to Serbia anywhere. The Serbs are and don't want to govern Albanians anywhere in Kosovo. That will work.

Paul,

You think that Serbs are the lords of Balkans and everyone else are slaves. The Serbs are the masters and know everything.

Did it ever occurred to him that perhaps the EU has since lost much of this lure? Slovenia apparently was the latest to find out that EU streets ain't paved with gold after all, or were really paved with fool's gold.

I'd say that Serbs apparently found that out for Slovenia.

Brian

pre 11 godina

Daniel you do not understand the agreement at all. The serbs are judges using the pristina legal system and are a part of the kosova court system. There is not an independent court nor is there an independent police. The police are all employees of pristina and pristina does decide who is the serb commander. THat is why serbs have to give a list to be chosen by pristina and if non are acceptable they keep going until pristina gets who it wants to enforce pristina law. Serb police are would all be under Albanian control.

Spartan,
There's already a de facto Greater Albania.
