The U.S. has the largest deposits of natural gas in the world and will be energy independent by 2017. By 2032 the U.S. will be the largest supplier of energy in the world. Russia's profits due to LNG will slow to a dribble in the near future.

Shale gas exists in many countries and there are excellent financial and environmental reasons why they choose not to exploit them. As sj pointed out, American water will be poisoned by the fracking process. You will have gas but no clean water. Typical American short-term thinking.

Fracking is also commercially uneconomic and would not be undertaken without massive government subsidies. For as long as the American dollar remains the world's reserve currency, the American government can create trillions of dollars to pay for fracking. If the dollar loses it status, then fracking will stop and the gas will stop flowing.

Poverty and energy shortages await most Americans in the coming years. Many people abroad will shed no tears for you.

Do you actually believe that the US is the only country in the world that has these reserves? I suppose if you’re an American I’d have to say yes because you don’t know better. If you don’t mind having your groundwater poisoned yes go ahead.

Yes to access these reserves they use a technique called fracking. Now with the US coming back from the dead with gas, what about the oil that Russia produces? How is the US going to match that one? What go back to Iraq and try and take over?

What about when NATO leaves Afganistan and the very next day El Kaida sets up terrorist training bases and lemonade stands? You ever think about that?

NATO should pull out of Afghanistan and let Russia deal with the fallout which will keep Putin busy for another 20 years. This will free up NATO's military assets for a huge presence in the Arctic. Also, it will be fun to see Putin have his nose bloodied once again.
