Lines with electricity are only these from Beograd to Zagreb, Budapest, Bar and Skopje. Everything else is diesel-powered.

Russia is loaning Serbia money to updta eits railroad, and buy Russian trains - hmmm, sounds kind of peculiar to me. First of all, the locomotives Serbs will be buying from Russia, are deisel, a dirty fuel that pollutes the environment, and quite costly, and expensive to maintain. Wy not go electric? Deisel is technology from the last century. If Serbia is going to update its railroads, why not go "Green", and use modern technology? Maybe the deal was, "We loan you the money, you buy our old engines", that even the Russians don't use?

it's just just the trains that need to be replaced.

You think these old trains are only capable of 50k/hr?

No, it's the tracks that are the problem. Get new trains and they'll still be going 50k/hr until the tracks get renovated

I hope they replace all the ugly old trains by the new russian and swiss ones as soon as possible ! No one is using the old trains as they are pretty shaby and slow, not to mention their uncomfort and noise.
