Forgiveness is a two way process, now it's the turn of all those who murdered innocent Serbs to ask for forgiveness. There are two sides to every coin mister, and Kosovo does not belong to Albanians alone, there are two peoples there and each have the right in my opinion to live in the country of their birth without fear of persecution and attack just because you are different. The Albanians are by no means squeaky clean and the whole of Europe can attest to that fact. The Albanians have yet to make one single apology to all those that THEY have murdered and wronged. At least Mr Nikolic has the balls to say what he said which is more than can be said for the gangster Mr Thaci or Izetbegovic and his Croat pals.

One wonders what happens to Serbians when they achieve high political office. They seem to lose all sense of duty to the Serbian people and are happy to oblige Serbia’s enemies in every way they can.

When are the Bosnian Moslem leaders going to apologise of slaughtering Serbian civilians in and around Srebrenica prior to its liberation? What about apologies for the extermination of Serbs from Sarajevo – Where have 200,000 Sarajevo Serbs gone?

Where is the Croat apology for exterminating the Krajina Serbs? Prior to WW2 Serbs were 1/3rd of the population in Croatia, today they are as rare as dinosaur eggs.

Where is the Albanian apology for exterminating Kosovo Serbs? Serbs have been thrown out and illegal immigrants from Albanian brought in.

There will never be any apologies because Moslems, Croats and Albanians are proud of their behaviour, they regret nothing.

It is appropriate for all civilized countries to lament the pointless loss of life in conflict, and that is what Nikolić should be doing. It is inappropriate for the President to apologise for actions that, even if true, were not the responsibility of either the Serbian President or government.

It is never late to ask for forgiveness for crimes committed in the name of whole nation. Mr. Nikolic was named as a nationalist, but he realized that the path of reconciliation is the only right one in the region. Some will condemn this decision, but everyone who is looking forward to the future will say that the President Nikolic has done a right move.

As a Greek, I am completely sure that Albanians were settled in the Balkan peninsula from Asia, during the Ottoman rule. It is easy to explain that fact, there is no a single medieval monument that testifies the existence of Albanians in the region. In spite of that, Serbian medieval monasteries are present in the every part of Kosovo and Metohija. I think the region should hold several reconciliation forums where we all sit down and discuss our differences in this area. We should discuss history, borders, lawsuits, who should apologize to whom etc.

We need to reconcile and work together if we want to move ahead especially economically.

That's why you have been living on Europes money for 200 years now. Does it matter really when albanians came to the Balkans? I see this as a step in the right direction. Also, this type of behavior should be seen by croats/bosnians as we need to push forward. We dont have to be united with each other but we can respect each other and look at each other as pawns. All we ever wanted was to have our own state?

Of course, it would be silly to mention those things without also mentioning that most of those villages were originally Bosniak villages, ethnically cleansed by Serbs at the beginning of the conflict.

THe war in Bosnia Erzegovina was civil but since the president of Serbia asks for apology it is obvious that Serbia is also responsible and aggressor (otherwise the apology is meaningless and probably should be asked to pay war compensations and Serbian Republic should be considered as a product of invasion). I wonder what are the Serb leaders ready to do in order to get accession to EU...

When Tito died, Serbia had the most benign political elite (Ckrebic, Stambolic, Pavlovic, Bogdan Bogdanovic etc.) and Albanians were doing well indeed (Fadilj Hodza and Sinan Hasani were Presidents of SFRJ). However, for some reasons that was not enough and riots started (Kosovo Republic). This is what induced Serbian reaction. Like an apology from Nikolic would bring back more than 100 thousands killed in Bosnia and Herzegovina. What a dumb statement! During commie days, Albania was a horrendous place to live. Hoxha thought that Stalin was a weak dictator. Using Albania as a benchmark during those days is a silly thing to do.

But, in 1999 residents of Albania had a better standard of living than Albanians in Kosovo.
Look how many new buildings went up in Kosovo when Serbia was in charge and look how much building went on after the war.

Of course, it would be silly to mention those things without also mentioning that most of those villages were originally Bosniak villages, ethnically cleansed by Serbs at the beginning of the conflict.

@ Reality...More recently, Serbs have shown more remorse to certain crimes that were committed, weather we did them or not, civilizations were harmed due to our war, its time for Muslims and Croats to step up to the plate and do the same.

So why should the Croats & Bosniaks step up to the plate when the entire world knows that it was the Serbs who committed Genocide in BiH. It's like the Jews apologising to the NAZI's for being in Europe in 1941.

I think the region should hold several reconciliation forums where we all sit down and discuss our differences in this area. We should discuss history, borders, lawsuits, who should apologize to whom etc.

We need to reconcile and work together if we want to move ahead especially economically.

It is never late to ask for forgiveness for crimes committed in the name of whole nation. Mr. Nikolic was named as a nationalist, but he realized that the path of reconciliation is the only right one in the region. Some will condemn this decision, but everyone who is looking forward to the future will say that the President Nikolic has done a right move.

When Tito died, Serbia had the most benign political elite (Ckrebic, Stambolic, Pavlovic, Bogdan Bogdanovic etc.) and Albanians were doing well indeed (Fadilj Hodza and Sinan Hasani were Presidents of SFRJ). However, for some reasons that was not enough and riots started (Kosovo Republic). This is what induced Serbian reaction. Without Albanian uprising in Kosovo 1980/81 nobody today would know who Slobodan Milosevic is.

Good move by the president and I hope that it will set an example for other groups from former yugoslavia that committed hiddious crimes, albanians, muslims and croats to be exact. Noone is irresponsible for the killings of hundreds of thousands of poor souls of them being serbs, albanians, muslims and croats. A life is a life no matter what color on the skin you have and no matter what nationality someone belongs to. I hope that albanians, muslims and croats one day will realize what they did and apologizes for the murdering of serb civilians. After all we all have one life so why dont try to make the best of it, whether we want it or not we still have to live amongst eachother. Balcans have seen enough of dead and killings.
