Northern Kosovo Serbs "won't implement deal"

Officials of northern Kosovo Serbs said on Friday they were unhappy with the proposed agreement between Belgrade and Priština, initialed in Brussels.

You said that Albanians sold their souls and became Muslim...

There are those in Albania who never "lost their souls", as you so kindly put it. I would encourage you to think of Albania as a mini-Yugoslavia. We are of course not Slavs, but we have a lot of religious and regional diversity in our small Albanian country.

A key difference with Yugoslavia is that the different religious groups do not constitute different nations. That is probably because the Albanian nation lost a large chunk of itself to Greekdom. We lost a lot of human talent which had its consequences, but I sometimes wonder what would have happened to Albanians if a bunch of byzantine cesaropapists had taken the reigns of the country.

What I am saying is that Albania is like Yugoslavia but without so many Serbs. Don't you think both Yugoslavia and Serbs would have been much better off?

I am only happy that those Albanians "who lost their souls" and became Moslem are alive and well in Albania. No Albanian Orthodox or Catholic would threaten them in the name of State or God.

"The agreement is unacceptable because it places the police and judiciary under the Kosovo law and without any connection with Serbian institutions, which is Serbia's definite withdrawal from the territory, he noted. "

Huh! Is Pantic trying to be more Serb than the most patriot of the Serbs in this forum Ari Gold who has already ruled that the agreement should be taken as a win for the Serbs...

cry me a river: You're right, Serbs have controlled Kosovo for the past 100 years. However, Yugoslavia was occupied by the Axis forces during WWII and the Albanians of Kosovo as well as the Albanians od Albania very enthusiastically joined the Nazi war machine. Perhaps some of your relatives were among them. Let's go back even further when the Ottomans ruled the Balkans. Prior to the Ottoman arrival in the Balkans, Albanians were either Orthodox or Catholic Christians. Today, more than 80% of all Albanians are Muslim. This occurred during Ottoman rule when Albanians sold their souls and converted to Islam, rather than stay true to their beliefs so they could lead privileged lives.

Just a little Albanian history 101 for you. Hopefully, you're capable of understanding my answer to your remedial question.

thetruth: Since you missed my point the first time, here it is again: Serbs have gone against their own gov't. in the past when faced with capitulation or standing up and fighting the occupiers. One only has to look to WWII when the Serbs overthrew their own gov't. and chose to fight the Nazis rather than go along with the neutrality pact that was signed at the time.

I would agree that the N. Kosovo Serbs are getting screwed by BG. But I also believe that the N. Kosovo Serbs won't take this decision lying down. They're a tough bunch and I believe they'll have something to say about their future whether BG agrees with them or not.

I know I'm just a 'western Serb' as you put it, but I have been to Kosovo and am a Montenegrin Serb by descent.

In regards to what you wrote, that may be true but what is your point? Belgrade has never given any interest regarding Kosovo. . . Half of the people that have lived in kosovo in those years migrated to montenegro, keep in mind kosovo was part of montenegro just in case most of you western serbs don't know..

The toughest Serbs come from Kosovo, and i cannot say all Albanians are bad. I lived in the south when i was extremely young and there were two Albanian families that was extremely helpful towards my family.

Serbs are getting screwed in Kosovo, in the north and the south. Belgrade has been playing a game and they have followed down with their plan. Anyways, everyone viewing this situation even Albanians can acknowledge that Serbs going the wrong end of the bargain during these negotiations.

The Serbs have their own police, courts, hospitals and education just like all the other residents of the state of Kosovo or is it Kosovo*. Are we still using the asterisks?

So it started as more than autonomy less then independence. Then it was kocobo je srbia. The it was never the north. Now it is well u can function as a state but we will never recognize.

Are you capable of answering my question?

Dear Bekim, Albanian in Novi Sad, if you, a random Albanian, can live in Novi Sad among Serbs, then Marko, a random Serb, can live in Kosovo among Albanians. Which is not true for the North by the way, they are not living among Albanians. Why only you should have the privilege of living in a multiethnic society? Why deny Marko this opportunity? And it is going to get even better for you in Novi Sad, once the SNS and DSS and those football fans have their way with Vojvodina. Those were rhetorical questions by the way, no need to answer.

The 4 Point Deal:

• LAW – North Kosovo shall be integrated into the rest of Kosovo with Pristina law being implemented in North Kosovo ; Pristina courts shall be the only courts in North Kosovo although the local courts shall have mostly ethnic Serb judges; Pristina run local elections shall also take place in North Kosovo;

• ASSOCIATION - an Association of Serbian Municipalities governed by Pristina law will be established; it will have no power to make significant laws, just reasonably broad powers for municipality;

• POLICE - the Pristina police force shall be fully extended to North Kosovo and all police shall be on the Pristina payroll – the Association shall have a minor role in the selection of a local police commander and local police will be primarily ethnic Serbs; and

• RANSOM CLAUSE: Neither side will block the other’s “EU path”.

THE VERDICT: North Kosovo will be fully run by Pristina.

A sad, pathetic outcome for many Serbs; a happy one for Albanians.

I have to say the K-Serbs got the shi**y end of the stick and have been left to swing in the wind by Belgrade. Thaci (and boy how I hate him) has secured a victory. The K-Serbs really have no option left now. There will be fireworks in parliament next week. I honestly didnt expect Dacic and Nikolic to fold this quickly over a Police Commissioner and a vague agreement about talks on EU Asscession.

The northern Kosovo Serbs are following a long history of Serbs fighting against tremendous odds. Serbs fought Ottoman rule for 500 years, staging uprisings in 1804, 1815 and finally ridding their land of Ottoman rule in 1878. During WWII, the Serbian people staged a coup and overthrew their own gov't. who signed a neutrality pact with Germany. They chose to fight the German war machine against insurmountable odds while every neighboring country, including Croatia & Albania, took the easy way out and sided with the Nazis. So you see, 60,000 Serbs standing up to the US, NATO, the EU and their Albanian butt-boys, is familiar territory for the Serbs. There is something to be said for standing up for what you believe in. Croatians & Albanian will never understand this as they have never met a master they haven't embraced.
