Smart move Thaci, very smart move!
(BOPA, 18 April 2013 17:57)

Smart move, but just a bad trick which will end without any effects. Serbia will never accept that kind of agreement, Thaci knows that very good.

The Serb team needed to be able to show the folks at home that they had won something, so Thaci adds a couple of provisions (So. Mitrovica to be part of the northern region, thereby giving it an Albanian majority, this UN seat, ...), and then when the Serbs squawk as predicted, he gives up. The Serb negotiators are now heroes for agreeing to what they would have been traitors for accepting a week ago, and the Albanians lose nothing. Both the wolf and the sheep are happy. (Although it would help if somebody could convince Kurti to get his kids to turn some cars over, to make it all seem more realistic.) Now - where's that champagne?

I have this feeling that Serb leaders as always are BS the serb population again. Again they're trying to find someone to blame. I very much doubt at this point Thaci even has the authority to add a UN seat as a condition. Maybe sometime later on when the stakes are higher, like when membership in the EU is being discussed. Right now when we're only talking about a date I don't think such a thing coming from Thaci would have any support from the West. If this condition does in fact exist, it is much more likely that Ashton herself put it there; just so that she had points which Belgrade liked and points which Prishtina liked; then take away what the two sides were categorically against.

So everything else except for that one point is acceptable.
Do we know what those other points are?
What are Serbia's politicians ready to sign off on and did they even consider consulting the people?
Just wondering if they have a mandate to agree to all of those points and why they haven't explained them all to the people.

UN Seat thrown in all of a sudden? Interesting...

Now check this out (from a related news source):

Translated:

Stefanović, who was the head of the former negotiating team, said that it is something different that everyone is surprised with the request from Pristina, as this request was always placed on the table and pointed to the negotiating team, while he was leading the team, and always refused it.

"I do not know for whom the fact that Pristina is asking for something like that is a surprise, when the Prime Minister (Serbia's Ivica Dačić) himself was speculating about the fact that Pristina could get a seat at the UN," Stefanović said.

My question is, which one is lying?

Hashim Thaci is genius. His strategy brings him closer than ever into position to integrate Kosovo into Serbia and become Serbian PM.

We are close to an agreement but I think that Priština needs to withdraw what it suddenly added,” he noted.

Hellooooooooooo, Thaci did not add anything since he is in no position to do that. That point was there all the time, but Serb politicians kept it secret and now they played the last card and its over. If Thaci had the power to dictate to Ashton, more power to him.
