"Talks' failure would be dramatic for economy"

A failure to reach an agreement in the Kosovo talks - "a halt to Serbia's EU integration" - would have dramatic consequences on the economy.

What will happen to make life in Serbia go good and why life isn't good in Greece, Italy etc. when they are in the EU?
(Peggy, 5 April 2013 12:51)

Well, life in Italy and Greece is certainly much better than in Serbia, even though it is not perfect (only Serbs have these weird ideas that if perfection is not achieved, then better live in poverty - nothing in between is acceptable).

In addition, if Greece were not part of the EU, it would have been an even more bankrupt country than it is now. Or, if you want a more clear example, see that strong Serbian ally of Cyprus which begged Russia for money and was shown the door. Only the EU helped it to avoid bankruptcy with a "haircut" rather than a "hair loss".

But again, if you think that Serbia is better off not becoming an EU member, by all means, do not join and do not emigrate to EU countries.

Daniel, what are you talking about? Here is the link to B92 reporting what I stated:

- lowest "growth" in the region (- 2%)
- Highest inflation in Europe (12,2%)

They never explain what exactly will happen to Serbia if there is no date.
Dire consequences blah blah blah, but what exactly are they?
Stop trying to scare the people and tell us how exactly is Serbia going to proper if Serbia gets a date?
What will happen to make life in Serbia go good and why life isn't good in Greece, Italy etc. when they are in the EU?

Speaking in such general terms only means you are lying.

The economic disaster Serbia's is already under way. The last year was practically in all fields the worst year since 2004. Unemployment rate, state deficit, inflation, etc., everywhere extremely catastrophic. Regarding inflation Serbia was the worst country in Europe. The state deficit climbed within 2 years from 40% to 55% and the slide did not stop. The worst trade deficit Serbia has with Russia, thanks to the extreme expensive energy import prices (e.g. around 480$ per cubic meter for gas) which not even customers in the West are paying (Austria: 275$ per cubic meter).

Learn your lesson the deficit hasnt been as low as it is right now (36%)for years.

Budget deficit in January totalled RSD 7 billion, which is twice less than the planned figure, the Ministry of Finance and Economy stated.

At the same time, the budget deficit in January was by RSD 3,4 billion lower than in the same month in 2012.

The Ministry recalled that the Law on Budget set the planned budget in 2013 at RSD 121,9 billion, which makes up for 3,3 percent of the GDP, which is twice less than in 2012.

The failure of the talks may affect Serbia -- that may be true. But "dramatic for economy" ?????? Isn't that an exaggeration surely?

In the first place, the EU today ain't no financial paradise, one can even argue that it is probably in a financial cesspool of its own making. Outsiders appear loathed to get involved with the EU itself -- eg. Russia declined to loan EU member Cyprus 10 billion euros and instead left fellow EU member Germany to take up the tab instead. And you can expect the same should and when Italy, Spain, etc go bust.

So how much trust is there in the eurozone and the EU itself nowadays? If I recalled correctly, even "mighty" UK and France have their own financial deficits. As I see it, the so called EU road is really paved with fool's gold. And so how is the EU that indispensable to Serbia? (or to Bosnia, Macedonia, Montenegro etc etc for that matter)

This is moronic. If you are trying to attract private investors, meeting an Albanian terrorist in Brussels wont do the trick. Cut Serbia's high tax rate, eliminate red tape and cleanse corruption is a start for a stronger economy.

Right, so only a handful of comments most of which basically say "shut up for telling the truth". Now we know who really comments here: Diaspora Serbs who don't really care about Serbia's economy. All they care about is their "Kosovo" poetry. I wish you people luck, you're more screwed than I initially thought.

With that disastrous outcome in the talks and denied negotiation date with the EU, the economic instability Serbia's will increase even more. The text already mentioned some points, such as higher interest rates for credits. But the worst development is the fact that trust to invest will diminish. Only economic gamblers and risk taker will be interested to invest. Together with the high energy prices and the high unemployment rate, the net income will diminish more (it diminished already last year). For many young people only emigration will be an option which will increase economic agony even more.

Here goes with the negative scaremongering - is this the plan now bombard Serbs with such negative spin to ensure the western imposed outcome? Hang on a minute he adds;

"This situation in the economy was brought about by the irresponsible economic policy of previous years, meaning unorganized privatization, weakening of production and export and dependence on foreign sources of funding because of a failure to reform the public sector", Đogović underscored."

- previous governments who were advised by whom to come to such a position err oh yes the western run institutions such as the World Bank, IMF, EU and their paid puppets.

If I wrote such a negative analysis I'd probably consider the pen name Doom&gloomovic
