Here is the link of The Economist that is telling something more of what's going on.
Extract!
During the talks Mr Dacic was frequently leaving the room to text and talk to Aleksandar Vucic, the deputy prime minister and leader of the largest party in the Serbian parliament. According to a well-placed source Mr Vucic was texting Mr Dacic taunting him that once a deal was done he intended to bring down the government and hence dispose of him. EU officials thus insisted that Mr Vucic be present at yesterday’s talks.

If the idea was that he would share responsibility for a deal from the Serbian side this appears to have backfired. Mr Thaci said he was “emotionally unprepared” to face two interlocutors. He raised his voice and slammed the table with his fist, according to one source. According to Mr Dacic, Mr Vucic dramatically offered to resign during the talks, an offer he declined, as it would mean the instant collapse of the Serbian government.

This government has no choice but to reject this ultimatum. It does not have the mandate to accept it. However, after rejecting it, I suspect early elections will be called with certain parties attempting to get such a mandate from the people. Will we see the SNS/DS coalition certain powers were pushing for in the last election? Lets wait and see.

The idea should be to delay any kind of decision now for as long as possible. The West will be preoccupied with events in Asia soon enough. The time window for resolving the "Kosova" issue is closing fairly rapidly.
(Zoran, 4 April 2013 18:12)

I agree Zoran. As I have posted previously, let us the voters decide. If there are to be elections, then so be it but I feel that a decision of this magnitude needs a fresh mandate from the people. Which ever way it goes, it must be respected.

Pristina already tried to have their way with the Serbs in the north and failed two years back. The Serbs there will fight until they are no longer living, I have visited these people my self. They are like the Armenians in Nagorno Karabakh. The West wont allow physical conflict under their watch.. although they'd be protecting the Albanian nationalists more than they would be protecting the Serbs, because they'd need it more than the Serbs would.
(Ari Gold, 4 April 2013 17:42)

that's all great then for both Kosovo and Serbs. Kosovo is collecting the customs duties for all goods destined to Kosovo as required by UNMIK regulations and the macho Serbs are heroically governing their own local affairs as provided for in Kosovo's Constitution and, above all, you are happy as well :)

Fix Serbia first, get her on her feet. Kosovo or EU are not going anywhere. When you have strong Serbia and if there is still desire, proceed with negotiations.

They wont explicitly recognize the occupation as legitimate. Not because they wouldn't want to, but they can't thanks to the Serbian Constitution. And these talks will not produce a UN seat for the KLA, and that's what's most important. This means no matter what is agreed, it is not binding because it is only worth the piece of paper it is printed on.

T, Serbia does not want to rule over Kosovo, but it will not recognize its independence either. The major point in these talks has been the protection of the Serbs in the North. They do not want to be under Albanian rule, as that would seriously jeopardize their safety. I don't think it is an outlandish request that Belgrade is making, in wanting to protect their citizens in Kosovo. Considering the history between Serbs and Albanians, I think their is more than ample reason to be concerned. In 2004, a pogrom was carried out against Serbs in Kosovo, while the international overseers stood by and watched. So obviously, they cannot be depended on for security.

The international community Dacic is referring to doesn't take sides. What it does is to look at the best possible solution to solve an impossible situation. The international community, apart from some states which prefer to protect their self interests, has decided that the best possible solution is for Kosovo to be a separate state. Even Serbia knows that this is the best and possibly the only solution but it is clinging on to a belief that Kosovo is and must stay Serbian and that it can remain so. It cant and therefore the only way forward is to acknowledge this. If it doesn't it will need to come up with a plan B to forward the economy without the EU. Without the support of Belgrade on a higher political level they will be forced to merge into Albanian Kosova. This is something that Serbia cannot afford to give up on.

If they sell out the Serbs in the North of our South then it will only give Pristina the means to implement their own rule of law in the North which will have the support of NATO/EU and then indirectly Belgrade.

It's an absolute critical time in which Serbia must not make a detrimental decision and accept the root of all evil (money).

Yes we need money in Serbia and yes we need funding and further development, but what do our people think about the EU??? They have less support now than ever for the EU. It a dried up money source & an uncertain future.

Again, there is no pressure. At least not from the EU. They just tell you what is the criteria for the next steps. You want to join the EU and therefore the pressure comes only from yourselves.

The EU has more important issues to tackle. Serbia is not the main topic, but others. To grant Serbia access to the next EU enlargement steps in the current state would just mean to add more problems, most notably the dispute with Kosovo (but not only that). If you don't do your homework, there is no reason at all to continue with Serbia's EU progress. That as simply as possible. Fix it, or leave it. It won't change, so spare us with the cry-cry-we-are-alone story.

These are all such lies. On one hand yes Serbia is completely on its own when it comes to Brussels sponsored talks over the status of Kosovo i Metohija. But it was the Serbian government that chose to move those talks from the UN forum to the EU. Serbia is alone in the EU which is why membership in this organization is impossible.

Ari Gold

“Ashton told us that there will be no more talks. The pressures were enormous. At one point, a senior Western politician told me ‘You are alone, you have no choice’,” Dačić told Belgrade-based tabloid Alo.

“The international community is on Priština's side and we are left on our own to fight. At the moment, I cannot tell you what our agreement would be like since the top officials will consult on the issue again,” Dačić was quoted as saying.

Serbia has the legal right to bring the status of Kosovo i Metohija back on the UN agenda. And there, both in the general assembly as in the security council, Serbia has a lot of powerful friends.

Dacic is an EU-phanatic. Membership into this organization is simply not a matter of life and death. Certain voices within the SNS believe this. And today, this is the only political party that matters in Serbia. So what they decide is what the gov'ts decision will be.

But regardless of Belgrade's decision, it is the Serbs in the North that will decide what agreement works for them. And not Belgrade, the institutions in Pristina can do a damn thing about it.

Dačić said a western politician told him "You are alone, you have no choice”.

This thoughtless behaviour alone is a reason for stepping back and saying NO to the forced deal and to the EU's conduct. Leaving someone alone is worst kind of political behaviour, both in small and big circles. To accept this kind of dealing now means that you'll face it in future, too.

But this must be left to the whole nation to decide about. The majority must carry the responsibility.

(Ari Gold, 4 April 2013 11:24)

I agree with everything you said except for this last part. I wish I could agree with it but I just don't.

If Belgrade give up on Kosovo now and give up on all that they have been saying they "can't accept", "won't accept" etc then our brethren in the south are f*$%ed.

It's better for us to live with the devil we know then the devil we don't.

I pray that Dacic & Nikolic will not give up on the executive powers to the Serbs in the North and never accept a recognition of our occupied territory.

You are delusional, Sir/Madam. The EU is not the land of milk and honey, just look at the recent events in Cyprus. Clearly, there would be some benefits for Serbia in receiving the talks date, but there would not be a large pay check attached to that date, as you suggest. You are only concerned with Pristina ruling over the entirety of Kosovo, and you could care less about Serbia's welfare, and what is best for them. Be honest.

winston

pre 11 godina

"Ashton told us that there will be no more talks. The pressures were enormous."

This is real-politics and if you are not ready for the hard decisions than give way for the one is capable to make it. Alternatively, you withdraw your whole EU ambitions. That would save a lot of time to all of us. It is up to you. End of talk.

T

pre 11 godina

The international community Dacic is referring to doesn't take sides. What it does is to look at the best possible solution to solve an impossible situation. The international community, apart from some states which prefer to protect their self interests, has decided that the best possible solution is for Kosovo to be a separate state. Even Serbia knows that this is the best and possibly the only solution but it is clinging on to a belief that Kosovo is and must stay Serbian and that it can remain so. It cant and therefore the only way forward is to acknowledge this. If it doesn't it will need to come up with a plan B to forward the economy without the EU. However, which ever way Serbia chooses to go it must do so without Kosovo. This is reality.

Make it hard for them, And Serbia can live very well without the EU, Just make reforms, get the dirty politicians out and a lot will be better, Serbia needs to look at countries like Norway and Switzerland they don't need EU but the EU wants them, these countries should be a example to what directions Serbia has to go.

Serbia is alone because it is asking to join the EU, while at the same time acting against its principles. The EU wants to eradicate the borders, Serbia wants to change them.
Serbia's geopolitical option must take into account its geography. Serbia is physically in central Europe, therefor it must cooperate with the dominating entities. Stating Russia or China as alternatives is naive and emotional. It is not a geopolitical possibility, nor the best realist option for Serbia and its people.
Serbs must work hard to win the trust of its neighbors because cooperation brings only win-win outcomes, while confrontation creates only losers.
