WTO membership "does not imply introduction of GMOs"

Serbia's membership in the World Trade Organization "does not necessarily mean that genetically modified organisms (GMO) will be introduced in the country".

"Nicolas Imboden, Executive Director of IDEAS Centre, said that, according to WTO's rules, a country can ban GMO only if there is scientific evidence that GMO is bad, adding that there is no such evidence for now."

There is plenty of evidence that GMO is bad. You just need to look for it because much of it is surpressed. Also, GMO harvests are not delivering what they promised and farmers are confronted with ever increasing need to apply more herbicides.

Germany did a smart thing. They adopted a law which states that if a conventional or organic farmer's harvest is contaminated with GMO from an adjecent field, then that GMO farmer is liable for damages. Since there will always be contamination, it stopped GMO cultivation.

Just say no to GM. It is what separates Serbian agriculture from the rest, almost completely organic. And it is a myth GM improves yields, it simply isn't true. Fewer pesticides though, but not enough to justify bringing in GM.
