Now tell me how is Kosovo going to survive?? When is Ford announcing the construction of a plant??? Same goes for Croatia; they spent every penny they got from the breakup of Yugoslavia and have dismembered or in the process of doing same of all their industry so where are the Euros coming from? Brussels? Oh no; tourism? not enough there.
Why do you think Milaonvic is crapping in his pants over the incidents of the last 2 or 3 weeks? The EU wants the new states to work together like before and Belgrade will run everything.
Open your eyes and have a look around you. Cyrpus!!!! Have you heard about that one????

Trust sj and MikeC not to get the point. All this Serbain rhetoric that we see in Kosova today, we once observed the same thing in Krajina. We will never give it up you used to say. You DID give it up. It turned out, you would not rather die than have the Croats rule Krajina. The same thing will happen in Kosova. You will always have your bravado and songs, but that's all they will be, bravado and songs
Oh and sj, Krajina is not finished? Yeah sure...keep telling yourself that

you think, actually from Texas.

pre 11 godina

Hey T if parts of Texas hold a vote they will be 99% in support of breaking apart from the U.S. Will the U.S. allow this. You bet they wouldn't. Stop being a hypocrite. You can't just go somewhere, overpopulate and claim it as yours. It doesn't work that way.
(Steve B., 25 March 2013 21:45)
Why do you print such things?? Serbs on here love to bring up Texas seceding from the US as an argument for blocking the independence of Kosovo. There is no huge movement to secede from the US. After the last election there was a petition for Texas to secede and you know how many rushed to sign it? 0.1% of the population. That is a far cry from your 99%. Whatever gave you the impression you knew what people in Texas want? Maybe the same thing that makes you think you know what Serbs in Serbia actually want, you think?

Fool me once, shame on — shame on you. Fool me — you can't get fooled again.

Why? So y'all can hide under your women's skirts again and have them get on CNN like before to lie and exaggerate in order to get the world's sympathy?

Listen to this, to "consider a strategy" lol, what a joke. What other strategy are you going to consider? You either recognize the reality of the matter or not...the end.

Belgrade has entered a one-way street that leads directly...drum roll please....not towards Brussels but directly towards Pristina; the road is plastered with GOK symbols.

Expect soon the telephony code (383?), pension agreement for our elderly which you stole, energy, etc.

(Nikolle, 25 March 2013 12:41)

ZZZZZZZ wake me up when they recognise it. You people have been saying this for the last 10 years - the eternal Albanian optimist who thinks that the EU is in a far better position in 2013 than they were in 1999.
Kosva all you like but no recognition and serbia will not join the eu. Its all charade; around and around they go leading the dumb arse eu politicians in circles.

Albanians and the US had their chance to rid Kosovo of its serbian population while Milo was still in power. Now a military operation against serbs is out of the question and only a wet albanian dream. What excuse would albs and americans use to justify the deaths of hundreds in not thousands of people? "Serbs put up baricades so we must kill/expell them". You keep comparing to Operation Storm without realizing there has been relative peace in the balkans for over 12 years and an intervention would ignite another mini-balkan war. You know what you have but you don't know what you will get. The Eu is not as bloodthirsty as you albanians. If you start another war be prepared to fight it on your own and be prepared to lose.

Same for Albania. It is not the first time Russia blocks entrance into international institutions. Back then it was because Vlora in Albania was the heart of Serbia. Go ahead and read what your idiot ministers used to say then. The same idiocies they say now. Now that Vlora is no longer Serbia's heart, it is Prishtina's time to qualify as Serbia's heart. It's as if Serbia is an alien creature that has hearts everywhere. You name it, Serbia has a heart there.

For serbia ist the only choice: to hand over Kosovo to Prishtina-also in the case Prishtina will not develop any realtions with Serbia or to hafe a firm position which is blocking Prishtina to become a UN-member etc. Only so Prishtina will be under pressure not to destroy all links with Serbia. Prishtina is following with Tirana the "Great Albania" plans, this should be blocked. Such plans in reality would be a great -also cultural- danger for Europe.

Brandon? (living in NJ flipping pizzas, huh?) - you make an interesting point. Albanians from Kosovo already miss the way it used to be. They were much better off, had a say in their politics, unlike today where elections are stolen by the main clans, and were optimistic about their future. Only the hardened criminals who have benefitted from this nightmare are happy. Serbs need to do nothing, it is a matter of time before this clan structure is broken down, and there will be much time for rapprochement. You say "the secession of Kosovo is inevitable" but many on here would have you believe that it is already in fact its own country. So I guess my question would be: which one is it? Or even more importantly, which country takes 5 years after its deceleration and still barred from joining the UN. In fact, most of the organizations the KLA has a seat in is simply due to the Serbian governments passive attitude towards separatism in Serbia.

It was Serbia that had to agree to exchange UNMIK for EULEX, it was Serbia that softened its own UN resolution on Kosovo i Metohija. These things were no doubt stupid moves but it shows who clearly has say over the status of Kosovo i Metohija.

You act as if Serbia has no cards to play, but its government has played all the cards in your favor and has been the biggest supporter of your occupation. No doubt these are the same people with drug ties so their soft policy towards the KLA is a given.

But Serbia does not have to do a damn thing. Even with all of such stupid policies, it could simply walk away from such negotiations because its not like anything valuable awaits the Serbian people if its gov't agrees to occupation.

Serbia would still go on being a universally recognized UN member-state and the institutions in Pristina will still be without a seat and dependent on humanitarian aid from Western NGO's and unsuspecting Western tax payers..for now.

Knowing that secession of Kosovo is inevitable the smartest thing Serbia can do is, instead of bargaining for executive powers, to bargain for guarantees which will provide safety, security and human rights for the Serb population and protection for the monasteries. The Albanians will agree, no doubt about it.
This in turn will provide leverage with the EU which Serbia can use to bargain for maximum investment into the Serbian community (Both Kosovar and Serbian).
The government will safe face, Kosovo will have its independence and the EU can rest their case. Everyone is a winner.
That's what I would do. However I am not optimistic because this government sees things completely different. They actually believe that Kosovo can remain a part of Serbia or at worst be split into two, with executive powers for the Serb population. If Serbia had any chips to bargain with this might have been a possibility, but it hasn't. Therefore it is time to move on.

The last paper from Brussels is made on long-term decicions between EU/US/Prishtina-Tirana, there will nothing be changed or only a little window-dressing this is one of the Serb problems we know from all former negotiations: unclear or non-existing real targets, confidence in "mediators" with their own interests, all leaders are speaking too much and with complete different content, sending the wrong signals in direction: Serbs are ready for capitulation..lets say it so: weak, weaker, Serbia

If the west had that type of power they would have used it a long time ago, but they have nothing left at all. Technically most EU members are broke. You have unrest in Slovenia, Bulgaria, and Romania just to name only Serbian neighbours, so what is it that they have over Serbia?
The current Serb government is well aware that there is no joy in joining the EU and it’s only a matter of going around and around in circles. The Serbs know only too well if they accept an independent Kosovo the EU will then demand to allow Albanians to look for work in Serbia as industry and agriculture evolves. The EU is not going to let the Albanians leave Kosovo to look for work in the EU – nice allies to leave them to beg for work amongst their enemies.
The Croats are crowing about joining the EU and the 11 billion Euros they will get. Well if they get a 20th of that they will be lucky because most of that money is already allocated to internal processes of Brussels . Then watch as what little Croatian industry is left disappear as EU corporations dump heavily subsidised produce in Zagreb then there goes their agricultural sector.
You either fight or they will bury you – that’s the name of the game now.

T- you are obviously not Serbian or know the Serbian character. The UK are willing to go to war over the Falklands, an island 6000 miles away with no real meaning to it, and you expect Serbia to just let Kosovo be independent. Ridiculous. Money isn't everything. We will remain poor but retain our dignity by never recognizing Kosovo, enforcing our people in the North, and making sure NATO will have to keep troops there for decades to come. Obstructionist, definitely, but not nearly as bad as the lying and cheating and repellant behaviour of NATO/EULEX.

T

pre 11 godina

T- 99% of Albanians voted for independence maybe (most Albanians friendly to Serbs have been killed by now) and i say maybe because voter fraud in Kosovo is rife. As a part of Serbia they are a minority so did not succeed in voting for independence. You happily ignore these facts, as most Westerners do. I am sure if parts of California or texas were to vote , they would vote for independence too.

It is expected that the round will be crucial because it will determine the destiny of the dialogue on Kosovo and Metohija, but also of Serbia's path towards the EU."

The Serb leaders have yet made a decision to accept the paper from the EU, its only the question now how to say it to the people, therefore all the noise with parliament...in no other country the parliament is so weak and only accepted to say after a very short time Yes, normally such subjects demnad a longer time for informatin, discussion and decision

"Key political actors should agree on the sequence of steps ahead of April 2, as the previous stage in Brussels yielded no progress, since the European Union offered an unacceptable paper to Belgrade"

IF the paper from the EU was "unacceptable" why there is a next round of talks on April 2nd? The last paper from Brussels is made on long-term decicions between EU/US/Prishtina-Tirana, there will nothing be changed or only a little window-dressing this is one of the Serb problems we know from all former negotiations: unclear or non-existing real targets, confidence in "mediators" with their own interests, all leaders are speaking too much and with complete different content, sending the wrong signals in direction: Serbs are ready for capitulation..lets say it so: weak, weaker, Serbia

It is not just the Albanians, many Yugoslavs miss the good ol days (including me). History shows that a political system like that in Albania and Kosovo is doomed to fail, mercifully.

The EU made already clear that it won't allow division of Kosovo, no matter in terms of complete division or something like Bosnia.

Game Over, Ivica/Tomislav. You can try as much as you want, there won't be a change. Serbia must solve her issues in a way that it does not cause something like Cyprus (which now became more a liability than ever). Ask Skopje how it feels to sit on the bench. They have to wait since 2005 and you complain that it might postpone to next year. I can recommend you that you rather present your country in the best possible shape and get rid off all irritations. With your attempts to hold on Kosovo, you will not get anywhere.

The irony is that longer Serbia continues with its obstructive stance on Kosova, further away it slips from it. Any cultural links remaining between two people, will soon disappear. The trade, business relations, educational programs etc, are all leaning toward Albania, Macedonia, and other Balkan countries. Soon Serbia will find out that has lost all its soft power influence in Kosova. The new generation of Kosova Albanians growing in freedom, will have neither nostalgia nor resentment toward Serbia. They will simply ignore it like an annoying neighbor.

Why are you trying that by an ad hominem attack, to set the stage on your favor. Let's try to converse on the topic rather than on individuals. First I don't live in NJ, but MA. Secondly I have never flipped any pizza, but I wouldn't have problem doing any honest job. Thirdly I am not from Kosova, but Albania, so I don't know how good they had it under Yugoslavia. But I witnessed them being expelled in droves by the Serbian army, well over 800000 of them. I listened to their stories, watched their suffering faces, and shared my home, food and clothes with them. That's all I needed to know.
For you to point out to the Kosova government corruption, when your own prime minister is accused on this same site for all sort of ordeals, and your politicians are being escorted handcuffed routinely; It sounds a beat hypocritical, don't you think?

Same for Albania. It is not the first time Russia blocks entrance into international institutions. Back then it was because Vlora in Albania was the heart of Serbia.
