(Kosovo) it's 1000 times better then it ever was and I don't want to go into long stories here but I know first hand how it was to live in Kosovo cos I'm from there.

Mendo, if Kosovo is the shiny little land you're sketching here, can you explain why the heck Kosovars are still swarming into Italy and the rest of Europe?

Today, on 14th anniversary of bombing of Radio Television buiding in Belgrade I wanted to see if you publshed the picture of the ruins of the building in Aberdarova Street were 16 of your colleagues, journalist were killed.
Of course not. This was not worth mentioning. You showed several pictures of destroyed buildings but no pictures of TV Tower on Avala and RTS building.
I guess you have to be careful not to hurt the feelings of you financiers.
Shame on you.

Ahaha, you don't trust me I'm Hungarian?! Well, I am sorry there is nothing I can do to prove you this. I can sing the anthem to the computer, but you won't hear it. Jeez! It's not the greatest, far from that. But comparing to other countries in the EU, not mentioning Kosovo, there is no threat of speaking my language on the bus, attending kindergarten, elementary, high school and UNIVERSITY in my language. And more. But apparently there is no way I can handle your way of understanding my messages and arguments. So I'll just get back to my first message. Brainwash.
@Mendo
Boom - I've been to Kosovo and I am going there in May probably again! I know I had to speak English and present myself as Hungarian, unless someone else turned to me in Serbian and I made sure that's OK. Milošević is not my beloved, in fact I wish we did the same Romania did with their "beloved" leader in 1989. They took our autonomy away, too, and I do miss it, even if we have some fractions of autonomy back again. As I thought, you don't live in Kosovo and I am fed up with such patriots (there are thousands of such Serbian patriots, Croatian etc. all around the world), who are in the first lines when it comes to showing their love towards their homeland. Well, screw that, why don't you all come to these beloved countries and live here. Why are you a bigger Albanian than that guy living in Kosovo, or how come someone in Sydney is a bigger Serb than me, living here!

Actually I think Joe the hungarian was a shoe shiner on Wall street. He has the right personality and level of intellect for this job, and he could talk to his customers in 'many' different languages while polishing their feet shiny clean.

Johnny, there are a lot of contradictions in your post. Since my comment will not be visible tomorrow I will be very bref. I am not sure if you will get a chance to read it. Anyway I had a good lough when I saw that you try to pass for a Hungarian. Sure, sure, I believe in Santa Claus. If you would be a Hungarian from Vojvodina you would not try to make believe that minorities live there in the greatest harmony and equality.

roger7, as I see you are still full of hang-up just like 2 years ago. Still it is touching to see that you are running at the rescue of your little brother radek, who badly miscalculated. See my response to him. And one advise: if you are full of hang-up and can't endure the reality don't provoke people. Whenever I wrote about me it was always in response of a belittling remark. The last I need is to brag in front of some unknown little guys of the Mid-West.

@Johnny,

Mr as a Hungarian (you never lived or maybe never been to Kosovo) don't tell me how it was under Serbian regime and how it's now to live in the western "regime" because I used to live there under your beloved ruler Milosevic and I go now twice a year for weeks and I can see the difference. Bidding is going on and I know a relative from diaspora who bid for a company back home and took it over. I'm telling you Johnny it's 1000 times better then it ever was and I don't want to go into long stories here but I know first hand how it was to live in Kosovo cos I'm from there.

radek, what happened? You got caught in your own little game? You started on the high horse calling me a "useless" immigrant. It is only at that point that I pointed out my superiority by paying 10 times more taxes. That was an unexpected shock for you. You realized that you miscalculated, that you are not in the presence of a little guy of your neighborhood. In your embarrassment you tried to play denial. Now you are accusing me of bragging. Do you realize how childish you behave? Learn from your stupide mistake. Next time think twice before you start to call somebody "useless" because it can well be that you are just a little guy compared to him.

But if it confirms one thing, its that it took the strongest military alliance on the planet to stop the Serbs.

Interesting comment, given that it took the JNA 3 months to take a poorly defended Vukovar. I can only imagine any force properly armed would have meant defeat for the JNA.

Heh, let me disappoint you - I don't receive any money/fees for any of the projects we are doing. It is a voluntary network founded just a year after the first world war as an answer on all the hatred and nationalism that was blooming back then. We are not observing, in fact our projects are aimed at raising (international) mobility in Kosovo and cooperation between local communities and international volunteers and work with minorities (not Serbs) there and enabling them to experience things they can't due to the lack of mobility and ongoing threats from the Albanian majority. Oh ye, I'm not done with disappointing you, I am not a Slovene, or anything that you are looking for to prove my connection to Serbs. I am Hungarian. Again, so obvious from your comments that you are full of prejudices and all those SIDES you are taking. And the whole concept that made this world going MAD! People support each other in order to stand for people's rights and justice not INTERESTS!
@Mendo
So now when Germany, US and whoever will missuse your "resources" that will be just great, right? As I said, something is so wrong with you! And don't be fooled, there is no BIDDING involved in those privatisations.

Since you questioned my nationality etc. Can you please prove me wrong - I have a feeling that none of you (or at least one of you) doesn't even live in Kosovo. Do you?

radek,

Old Joe, the hungarian immigrant, has been around B92 for a long time.

Pathetic that Joe the immigrant feels the need to flaunt his supposed wealth, education and his false sense of social superiority in order to receive the validation he needs to feel important.

He'll soon boast about his home in the gated community, his son the lawyer, how he knows all of the French and Germans, his knowledge of languages ... it goes on and on like an old broken record. His need for validation (if he even exists) is obvious and pathetic.

People like immigrant Joe put others down in order to feel better about themselves. A person who has dignity and self-respect does not behave like Joe the immigrant.

radek, I see your ego is badly bruised. You must be an American of first or second generation, who contrarily to their blue collar parents and grand-parents made it to a college (sometimes just a community college). So you made it to an office job and your relatives were bragging about.."nash radek...etc". Anyway what I just described was the norm among immigrants of Eastern_Europe and the Balkan...they progressed slowly from one generation to the next. They were hard workers and respected. I greatly respect them too. But I don't fall into this category of the masses. Through very lucky circumstances I made most of my schooling in some of the best schools in Western Europe and started to work on Wall Street shortly after. Does Wall Street and those high salaries and bonuses mean something to you? Did you hear about it?

@Johnny,

Yes John where did that money came from for building those power plants and factories and so many other good things in Kosovo from the old country and still Kosovo was the poorest part of Yugoslavia, in fact they only misused the wealth of Kosovo and build Belgrade so spear me the goodwill of Serbs building factories and such. Finally yes people are free to bid for anything that's up for privatisation including you and Serbs if they want to, so I see nothing wrong with that. I'm all up for moving on and be good neighbours with Serbs but never in one country.

Johnny, you can consider yourself very lucky for finding a job by a Western peace organization. I am sure they pay you extremely well compared to scarce jobs in Vojvodina. By the way what are you doing beside "observing" ? "Observing" will not help the poor there in any way specially if you are biased, what is obvious in your comment. You claim to be a minority in Vojvodina, most likely a Slovak or a Ruthanian. Since you are considered there as a slavic brother you don't suffer any discrimination and are treated like a Serb.

The fact that THIS is what the comments section looks like (even in the age of the troll) fills my heart with sadness. The truth is that the entire Balkan region has been plagued by civil war and unrest for centuries, and every side has wronged and been wronged. This intense nationalism that we see of pro-Albanians and pro-Serbians pitted against each other just goes to prove that we've stopped killing each other but the hateful sentiment unfortunately remains. The point of this article is to commemorate CIVILIAN VICTIMS, regardless of the aggressors. These commemorations occur for EVERY side of this bloody and frankly, tiresome conflict and the fact that anybody could be grateful for innocent men, women and children dying FOR ANY REASON highlights why wars continue, even when we should have learnt our lesson. I don't care what your ethnic background is, thanking whatever aggressor for killing civilians just because it serves your cause is despicable and only proves your ignorance. You ever notice how most men returning from war refuse to speak of what they saw? That's because they can never make the ends justify the means. Oh, and finally, with the way we've all been running away, changing names, loyalties and countries for centuries, just to stay ahead of the next person trying to kill the group you belong to, there's probably NO WAY you can prove that your ancestors were what you are now more than 3 generations ago. Have fun hating what you (quite possibly) are.

Hay - no one here can apologize for Nato and America. The bombing did not occur because of American citizens or the Nato citizens. Since when can regular citizens of a country tell their government what to do? They cant. So who ever wants to hate Americans I guess that is their right - but in the end hate will get you nowhere and it is very small to hate people who had nothing to do with what their government did.

Excellent article. But perhaps there should be a similar article, it beeing the aniversity of the bombing and all, describing and numbering the deaths, destruction, expulsion etc. of the Albanian population, which far exceeds that of the Serbian people? This is after all why the bombing began. Or how about the apartheid system that opressed the Albanian majority during the early 90s making their lives unbearable? How about the tens of thousands of women who got raped? Thousands of children murdered? Hundred of thousands of us who were forced to leave our homes and escape to other countries where we yet again were second-class citizens?

But we are not Serbs, we do not matter, we did not suffer anything, we are not human, we deserve everything, correct? That is the racist mentality that caused our and your deaths, and that will be the mentality that will cause future wars and destruction.

We have learnt nothing!

Milosevic was a diplomatic failure, and as a result induced rather than avoided the bombing and succeeded in losing control of Kosovo.

Nationalist posters on this sight cannot see that all they do is compound that failure.

You cannot alienate a population, alienate most of the world, and then complain when everything turns against you.

Well, actually, you can complain, but that is about all you can do.

@Joe:
I am not upset. As I said, I don't care if Kosovo will become independent or not. All I want is that people down there, Albanians, Serbs, Turks, Roma, can live a descent life and be able to use their minds. And they don't have it. Hate speech, teaching people to hate non-Albanians is so obvious, cos that is a huge wind in the back of those guys in Priština. I work for a peace network and we have an office in Kosovo. I am not a Serb, I am a minority in Serbia, living in Vojvodina. All I can tell you is if there is a mutual respect between the majority and minority it can work very well. There is no such thing down there. You want a 100% Albanian country (and Priština doesn't choose tools to accomplish that goal). They want to be independent, yet they are guinea pigs of other countries.
@Mendo
You don't have to have anything to do with Serbia. That's what you're fighting for, I understand. You fight for independence. But reading your comments make me believe something is wrong with your beliefs! They don't NEED you, they need your land, resources and location! And don't you talk especially about the '80. That was the period when all the factories, power plants, mines opened for you and the people by the old country. The same things you are selling now to those I mentioned earlier (that was their idea, their interest, you remember what I said earlier). You could travel wherever, whenever. Can you get out of your ghetto now?
USE YOUR MINDS PEOPLE!

It's always a shame when civilians are targeted. This has happened many times in history. The worst example ever was when the two atomic bombs were dropped on Japan, under the pretext of saving lives. Are soldier's lives equal to civilian lives? I think not. Hopefully, in the future, people will agree to not use violence. If violence must be used, it should only be targeted at the military. That actually can work. My thoughts go out to all the innocent people who lost their lives or were injured during those attacks.

moris, you should jump in mind at least 100 years to understand the military strategy of the modern countries of today. For them the highest value is the life of their troupes. To keep them possibly ALL alive - and still accomplish their military targets - they spend billions on modern hardware. Die uselessly and young to become a so-called national hero is not considered smart anymore. Accomplish the objectives sometimes from thousands of miles by operating the most modern instruments or flying very high is the smart thing. Gone are the days of gun fights in front of Western saloons that you can see in cowboy movies. Those are for entertaining.

That means that those people chose to live in Yugoslavia or was that always the plan to ethnically cleanse Serbs of there own land?

I do not agree with this land theft and one day when the time is right everything will fall in to place for Serbia that is.

Use your minds! Even if I don't care if this region if it will become independent or no. In fact, as a Serbian citizen, I really want my government to focus on SERBIA that they actually have control of and deal with it's citizens instead! As for Kosovo, I am not sure they will EVER become independent in terms of independence from US, NATO and others, with drug/human trafficking blooming, corruption sky-rocketing etc. I believe if EU, NATO and US could get away without any guilt and consequences they'd agree right away this was one of their biggest failures (alongside with Bosnia, Iraq etc.). There was never 250G Serb in Kosova, only during the war in Croatia and Bosnia that thousands of Serbs came to settle in Kosova and eat with golden spoon as promised by Slobo.
Just 2 days ago your D/P said it that ; there are 150G Serbs in Kosova and that number sounds right. Give or take another few thousand that committed horrible crimes and will never return. That is about it.

Another thing about missing. Serb media today is giving the number of soldiers/police at about 1000, but that number is is more like several thousand.

That was the period when all the factories, power plants, mines opened for you and the people by the old country. The same things you are selling now to those I mentioned earlier (that was their idea, their interest, you remember what I said earlier). You could travel wherever, whenever. Can you get out of your ghetto now?

You must be an American of first or second generation, who contrarily to their blue collar parents and grand-parents made it to a college (sometimes just a community college). So you made it to an office job and your relatives were bragging about.."nash radek...etc". Anyway what I just described was the norm among immigrants of Eastern_Europe and the Balkan...they progressed slowly from one generation to the next. They were hard workers and respected. I greatly respect them too. But I don't fall into this category of the masses.

By your calculation sounds very good for Serb brain washers, but lets turn to facts.

Only when Kosare was taken over by KLA, at least 100 serb soldiers were killed in the battle. This is only one spot, what about the rest of Kosova ???

How many Serbs were ethnically cleansed and killed by albanians in kosovo since 1879-1990?

And don't forget 200.000 Albania came as Colonists from Albania when Italy occupied Kosovo...

That means that those people chose to live in Yugoslavia or was that always the plan to ethnically cleanse Serbs of there own land?

Excellent article. But perhaps there should be a similar article, it beeing the aniversity of the bombing and all, describing and numbering the deaths, destruction, expulsion etc. of the Albanian population, which far exceeds that of the Serbian people? This is after all why the bombing began. Or how about the apartheid system that opressed the Albanian majority during the early 90s making their lives unbearable? How about the tens of thousands of women who got raped? Thousands of children murdered? Hundred of thousands of us who were forced to leave our homes and escape to other countries where we yet again were second-class citizens?

After reading your comments and just so that you know I'm in no mood to sympathize with Americans that MIGHT be supportive of Serb war criminals,come to think of it,I don't even desire friendships nor doing special or "truly" special things for Americans who might be supportive of Serb war criminals (even if I'm not saying that you support Serb war criminals which I hope you're not doing) Also don't take my statement personally simply because even if some of my fellow Canadians sympathize with Serb war criminals they too are not to receive my sympathy just like they as well I choose not to form friendships with nor do special or "truly" special things for them either.

Sorry, but decades ago, in WW2, during a single bombing night in a single city (Dresden), more people were killed than during this 'relentless bombing'. That's the difference between strategic bombing and a massive air raid.

I cannot believe how many Albos and other who ever they are Serb haters come on this site. Serbs never flown planes into buildings only the brothers of Albos and Bosnian Muslims who in fact did fight along side them. how many NATO troops had to die to fight Muslims in Afghanistan and IRAQ..? NATO sure knows how to choose their friends..

@Johnny,

I'm all up for moving on and be good neighbours with Serbs but never in one country.

Well, the ruling clans and the leaders who became politicians and ministers have a decent life now, with fancy cars and villas, and without anyone interfering their drug business, and with additional access to donor money for themselves and their relatives and friends. So: Kosovo IS a success for them. Did anyone think the 'KLA freedom fighters' cared for improving the lives of the ordinary average citizens?

Johnny, you can consider yourself very lucky for finding a job by a Western peace organization. I am sure they pay you extremely well compared to scarce jobs in Vojvodina. By the way what are you doing beside "observing" ? "Observing" will not help the poor there in any way specially if you are biased, what is obvious in your comment. You claim to be a minority in Vojvodina, most likely a Slovak or a Ruthanian. Since you are considered there as a slavic brother you don't suffer any discrimination and are treated like a Serb.

Joe

pre 11 godina

radek, I see your ego is badly bruised.

Joe

pre 11 godina

moris, you should jump in mind at least 100 years to understand the military strategy of the modern countries of today.

You don't speak on behalf of them either. Once again, apologies to Serbia and the Serbian people. Please don't let "Joe" make you think 318 million Americans are against you. They are not. Every American whose ever been to Serbia comes back loving the country and its people and feels nothing but regret and humiliation for what their government did in 1999. Serbs love it when Americans come and want to know more about the country than what their media and racist policies tell them. "Joe" obviously is one of those Americans who only knows about the world through his TV.

@Joe:
@Mendo
Interesting comment, given that it took the JNA 3 months to take a poorly defended Vukovar. I can only imagine any force properly armed would have meant defeat for the JNA.

Joe

It is only at that point that I pointed out my superiority by paying 10 times more taxes. That was an unexpected shock for you. You realized that you miscalculated, that you are not in the presence of a little guy of your neighborhood. In your embarrassment you tried to play denial. Now you are accusing me of bragging. Do you realize how childish you behave? Learn from your stupide mistake. Brainwash.
@Mendo
