Serbia likely to “wait little longer” for EU talks date

Serbia will probably have to wait a little longer to get a date for the beginning of the EU accession talks because of the Kosovo issue.

EU accession talks should only start once, Kosovo is recognized as independent by Serbia! And also, once the issues with Presevo, Bujonovac, Medvedja, and Vojvodina also, Sanjak, are resolved! Then, and only then will we see a stable Serbia! Until these issues of instability are resolved, the EU runs the very real risk of admitting a country with the potentials of blowing up, a still, active volcano that only seems to be dormant for the moment , which will have disastrous consequences for the entire EU! I'd be very cautious, at least for a little while longer!

1. Serbia will never recognize Kosovo as independent so keep dreaming.
2. What issues with Sandzak and Vojvodina are you talking about?I live in Pancevo along hungarians, romanians and many other minorities without any problems whatsoever but maybe you know better than me? Last but not least serbs are a majority in Bujanovac and Medvedja and in Presevo is 50/50 so I cant really see no issues there either.

This "cancer" is recognized by the whole world while Kosovo is recognized by 90 countries. Out of those 90 countries that did recognize Kosovo a majority was bribed to do so or did it to be able to exploit Kosovo's natural recources. Ask any normal european what he thinks of you albanians.

EA - that's probably why someone took over a land that isn't theirs? Perhaps that's why, not entirely sure though! A land that isn't theirs?
Albanians wherever they are, are in their lands. The superpowers at some point in the history decided to split the Albanian nation in four or more countries.
"They want Serbs to become Kosovans, why should they change their nationality..."
Your question make sense and I have no prejudice about it. That fact has taken into account the administrative borders that existing in form Yugoslavia. That was the arrangement at that time. If you ask me personally I would not agree. Bear also in mind that during the last war in Kosovo there were many people displaced for many reasons which we can argue all day and night. On the other side we have Presevo, Bujanovc and Medvegja. That can and should come into negotiated table if we are looking for a just solution. My personal opinion is that Serbs and Albanians living respectively in northern Kosovo and Presevo, Bujanovc and Medvegja should have exact the same right. Would an exchange of territory be an option? Maybe...but Serbia must formally recognise Kosovo independence first. I really mean MUST not in the context that Kosovo can not live without Serbia but in the context of long lasting peace and reconciliation process between the two nation.
Ps. Albanians in Macedonia are Macedonians citizens....so why you are worried for Serbs living in northern Kosovo to be Kosovo citizens...))))

Amer makes a good point in highlighting the comment that it may be a 'little longer' before Serbia gets a date. If Serbia doesn't accept what Catherine Ashton is asking for then the conclusion has to be that Mr Markovic thinks she will back down. Having said that, the EU has a history of so doing in the Balkans. Romania and Bulgaria came nowhere near reaching the required standards with regard to judicial reform and anti corruption measures but were allowed to join. Bosnian politicians were told endlessly that police reform based on three non-negotiable principles (in fact all principles are non negotiable) was a pre-requisite for the initialling of an SAA and yet here we are with such an agreement having been initialled and no police reform at all, let alone in accordance with any principles. So the moral is sit back and wait and the EU are likely to blink first or at least fudge the issue to get themselves off the hook. Great use of taxpayers money again.

They want Serbs to become Kosovans, why should they change their nationality after being Serbs for so long, I think that's absolutely insane! The Serbs in Kosovo will basically become an ethnic minority Kosovans in their own country. Politics amazes me sometimes. But anywat, that was all a Western plan, so not to worry.

Isn't it true that wherever there are Serbs, there is chaos as well? Certainly the history of the Serbs more or less attests to this...

Dear God, can these old relics from the 90's just go away. Serbia lost Kosovo long ago thanks to the very people that are now in office. The irony is mind boggling, that the very same socialists/communists/radicals, that took Serbia into numerous wars, and brought it to its knees, physically, morally, economically, are now the ones that are attempting to get an EU talks date, and settle the Kosovo issue. Palma, go back to Jagodina, and hide under your bed from homosexuals, that is biggest fear - and stop sticking your old school nose into politics. The Serbian people have had enough of you and your cohorts. Your policies and mentality are responsible for Serbia's demise, stop holding the country back.

I don't get it: Why does this association need to have executive powers when each municipality has executive powers? They just want another Republika Srpska in Kosovo which no human being with a little spark of rationality would understand. They don't even make up to 10% of the population in Kosovo. Pristina will never allow such a legal body to be established nor will the US. Even the senseless EU does not wish to see another country cancer the RS.

Why does he think it will just be "a little longer"? If the talks with Prishtina go nowhere, so do Serbia's chances of joining the EU.

Serbia is NOT ready yet full stop. Serbia is asking for autonomy for norther Kosovo on the other side doesn't want to recognise formally Kosovo independence...How bizarre is that?
