There is a difference between mid-20th-century European patriotism and a church condoning genocide.

Most traditional churches date back to when men were the master of the family, thus their patriarchal nature is just a short step away from patriotic feelings (which "Holy See" mislabels as chauvinism) for any state founded by the men who led society.

However, the Roman Catholic church's failure (refusal) to stand up against a bestial mass slaughter of Serbs, Jews and Roma (gypsies) sets it far apart from any other church.

To equate the two, as "Holy See" does, is to condone WWII catholico-fascist Croatia's mass murder as "run of the mill" or "routine". There was nothing "routine" about the genocide practiced at Croat's Jasenovac death camp, where manually slashing the jugular veins of tied-up men, women and children became an enjoyable sport for the participating and onlooking Roman Catholic priests alike.

Those few inmates who miraculously survived both Jasenovac and Auschwitz said the Croats were infinitely worse than the Nazis, if only for the joy they took in being splashed with their victims' blood. Let's retain that historic "superlative" about Croat fascists for future generations... Knowledge is Power... and the knowledge of what the Croats did will help Serbs, Jews and Roma to remain forever on their guard... at least until Croatia pays compensation and the Vatican publicly accepts its share of the guilt.

Nothing surprising. Serbian church leaders did always care more about chauvinist aspirations, than of their 'primary' responsibilities. They have always been inspirators of nationalist politicians such as Draza Mihajlovic, Slobodan Milosevic, Radovan Karadzic, etc.

It is hard to understand how any informed Roman Catholic could ever say the Vatican: "has always been on the side of justice".

The Vatican has never admitted its heavy responsibility for the Auschwitz of the Balkans - Jasenovac - the unparalleled death camp in the WWII clerico-fascist statelet of Croatia.

Jasenovac, which was even run by a Catholic priest, consumed hundreds of thousands of Serbs, Jews, Roma (gypsies) and other anti-fascists.

As the leader of a Church worried about declining numbers in Europe, the new Pope should note where the only new RC cathedral in Europe is being built. While Francis is from Argentina, he's the son of Italian immigrants, and so probably feels some interest in the European Church and its fate.

You think the Vatican is happy with serbia, after what they did to human being in the 90's. Why do you always leave that out?

The Vatican is not there to be your mouthpiece. I know you must be very frustrated that you can't get the Vatican to go along with your insanity but you just have to accept it.

Besides, the Vatican also knows all the horror they turned a blind on and even protected the guilty during WW2. They owe the Serbs a great deal more than not recognising Kosovo. They also have a lot more to deal with than your pathetic demands.

He added that he believes Vatican will persist in its stand not to recognize Kosovo as independent even after the appointment of the new pope, Francis I.

What political party he belongs? PATHETIC with huge P.

Why tie a political conflict with religion? God wants us to all live happily together, he doesn't care who recognizes Kosova or Serbia.

The above statement sounds like Irinej is talking.

"All churches should primarily bear in mind that their strength lies in spirituality and loyalty to the Gospel," Hočevar said and added that the more loyal Serbs are to the Gospel, the greater the positive effects in their lives would be.

You should stick to the above statement, rather than the top one, if you truly believe in gospel preaching love and peace.

But than again, Serbs is a Serb. Amazing!!!
