It is so simple: Croatia has to obey EU rules. Minorities have the right to use their own language and alphabet. This is true for Serbs in Croatia. Like it is for Germans in Belgium.

The Glagolic Alphabet was invented by St. Cyril and St Methodius, for their mission in Greater Moravia (today’s Slovakia). It was used by several Slavic Peoples for a while, but only the Croats persisted with it until Late Middle Ages. The Cyrillic was invented by one of the disciple of St. Cyril and St. Methodius – St. Kliment of Ohrid in Bulgaria and adopted as official alphabet in that kingdom. Later it was adopted by other nations – Serbs and Russians. The Serbian version of the Cyrillic dates from the reforms of Vuk Karadzic. The purpose of the reform was to standardize it with the Croat version of the Latin alphabet, since it became clear that the two nations spoke indeed one language - an apparent observation denied first by the Croats, and later by the Serbs.

so lenard, you advocate using cyril and methodius' first character set, but have a problem with their updated version? you don't like the better modern works, but prefer the older ones?

I'm for compromise we will have ancient Croatian Glagolitic script not the chicken scratch Greek Cyrillic the Serbs use. Gee I don't know if Serbs have even their own alphabet. You can see the beautiful Croatian Glagolitic

1. Croats don't use Glagolthic. They use Latin. Funny how everything you say is Croatian, has been replaced with something else. You Croats are surely bad at preserving your heritage. Unless it really isn't your heritage.

2. You can't read Glagolthic. I'm more than sure of that. I'm also doubtful you can even master the Latin alphabet.

Ha ha very droll Mr Serb censor leaving out the link mark 0:07 and my last few words nothing new. Now put it in you don't want the Serbs to have a worse reputation then they have. Here I'm thinking about a compromise and you play silly games tsk tsk.

They don't call for job investment programs, they don't call for better schools, they don't call for better infrastructure, they don't call for economic assistance programs from the government, they don't call for social programs, they don't call for demining, yet there is a demand for cyrillic alphabet use for town and gov't buildings, to create redundancy for something that every last Serb already understands. All this in a city where a Serb controlled army - funded by Croats through Yugoslavia's existence - chose to destroy and leave it looking like Dresden post WWII. And then the gem "we are surprised by the force of reactions".
