..We are Europe and nobody can deny it...

The Germans can, and they do. If they don't get Belgrade to give up Kosovo, you can bet that EU structural funds to Serbia will come under 'pressure'..

Wellesley, you are right about most of the things you mentioned. But since we made such an effort to be part of EU lets take a shot. We are Europe and nobody can deny it. As an EU country we will have opportunities to use various funds, and if we use them smart and right, there is a chance for Serbia to move on economically and socially.

Mr. Dacich, you must be comfy in your house, but have you bothered to look outside your window today? People are being plunged into poverty all across the EU, jobs are moving out (not in), and neo-nazi parties are quickly gaining rise from ordinary citizens who wish to break free from the chains. Is this what you want for your country?

He added that Serbia was the biggest country in the region and that it had the biggest economic potential.

“20, 30 years ago we were a synonym for a successful country, today we are objectively lagging behind."

Helen? You're really going off the deep end on this one. You know well that Serbia was not the catalyst for the wars that dismembered Yugoslavia, so stop the nonsense. You know well that when 'respect' is part of today's European equation, there is no place for Serbia in the EU. NDH, the nation which gained independence in 1991, has a profound respect for Nazism and is welcomed into the EU with open arms. I don't have to draw you a picture.

Serbia needs to be more part of Europe and joining the EU is a definite way of really establishing that. Serbia needs to be exporting more and again the EU framework will greatly help this. Additionally, joining the EU will help the tourist industry. Many people are afraid to go to Serbia simply on the basis that the country is not in the EU. An increase in tourism, will bring a lot to the country. Furthermore, business communities could increase. Who knows - Belgrade could have a stock exchange in the future with people from the UK coming over to set up such an exchange and people from Serbia being trained in London. It seems a crazy idea, but it could happen. The EU will allow Serbian people to travel more easily around other EU countries without being delayed for hours at an airport over security and asylum issues. Hopefully, there will be a time when Serbian people will be happy to go to other EU countries and yet still want to return to Serbia because they love their country and feel more secure there.

Agree with article. Serbia cannot go it alone. They cannot create any more wars in the region as Europe wont let them. It is time for Serbia to become a respected country, which is what this current government is trying to do, and take care of their own. Serbia needs to become - part of Europe and it will be a long road for them. Unfortunately Nikolic is running his mouth and making it more difficult. Serbia needs no more "nationalists" in their government. They are the little guy on the block and need the EU. Time to move forward.
