Been there, tried that. It didn't work.
Obstructionism of this type weakened Serbia's negotiating position, as Djindjic once pointed out.

Particular congratulations are in order to SPS though. First for handing over sovereignty of Kosovo to Americans back in 1999 and now for agreeing to sign over Kosovo to Albanians with a high degree of autonomy for a small part in the north.

Its kind of fitting that Milosevic and Dacic will be remembered by history as the men who gave Kosovo away.

(Ari Gold, 7 March 2013 10:38)

Will they get a UN seat if Kosovo were to be under Serbia ? No

So you raise a point that is irrelevant to the issue of whether Kosovo is better off being under Serbia or being independent.

Kostunica, just go away, please. You have been a lead weight around Serbia's ankle since you went into Serbian politics. The DSS party is pretty much dead, not even sure why you are given air time, or internet time, by B92? Maybe it's because you are always caustic, and make for good news stories? I cannot see any other reason.

Common Sense, congratulations to your rapid growth in GDP. And to think that Ari, the good friend of K-Albanians worried so much about your well-being.

Well said Kostunica.
Serbia need to rebuild itself and should wait with the Kosovo case.
There will be a more favorable time in the future to return Kosovo and then we will speak about Kosovaa in the past tense!

you know what, however low your opinion of Kosova's system may well be, it still beats the one that was in place when Belgrade ruled roost. so give me this broken system over that 'perfect' one anytime of the day. or do you prefer burning villages?

Common Sense

pre 11 godina

Ari, it touches my heart that you are so concerned about the economic well being of the Kosovars. Pray tell, would we be in a better economic situation if we were still living in the refugee camps in Blace, Macedonia?

Yes, we're poor but we've been improving steadily since we got rid of the Serbian yoke. Kosova's GDP was 2b in 2000 and 6.5B in 2011. Impressive isn't it? From 2003 to 2011, GDP has been growing at a steady rate of 5%, despite the financial crisis in major EU markets. In 2004 the trade deficit was 70% of the GDP, and only 39% in 2011. Foreign assistance is comparable between Kosova and Serbia, so whatever point you're trying to make is mute.

"Also, you mention the birth rate..."

No, I did not mention the birthrate. I mentioned the average age of a Kosovar Serb vs a Kosovar Albanian, and that not to make a racist point as many Serbs do when they mention birthrates, but to show that Serbs that propose to "freeze" relations with Kosova, don't know what they are talking about. As an Albanian it suits me, for you to "freeze" your relations with Kosova and discuss it in 20 or 50 years. What do you think the discussion will be like in 20 years?

But as a person that lives in the modern world, such proposals of "freezing", smell oddly as something out of WWI.

And here's your birthrates as well:

Functional? You must be joking! The only thing that is 'functioning' in Kosovo is corruption and crime. Nothing else! Police, courts etc. are not functioning at all. They arrest innocent people with fabricated accusations, beat prisoners, and some more. And what Kosovo policiticans and government think about 'democracy' the world experienced in the first self-organized elections.

A couple things in regards to your "common sense"

First of all, the highway to Tirana isn't even fully built yet because you guys don't have enough money for it. Second of all, you can build highways to the moon if you'd like but Kosovo i Metohija remains impoverished. This mind you, with generous donations from Western NGO's and unsuspecting Western tax payers. If we were to follow trends however, we would see that these donations that you have been receiving have been steadily decreasing. And while the money dries up, you pay countries to "recognize" you, and the KLA builds luxurious villas while most young people in Kosovo i Metohija are broke as a joke with absolutely no future.

Also, you mention the birth rate. Actually a couple things here, first of all the Serbs in Kosovo i Metohija actually have a higher birthrate than Serbs in other parts of Serbia. Second, the population of Kosovo i Metohija have been grossly inflated for many years now. For the longest time people assumed there were 2 million Albanians in the province and today according to EULEX and "government" statistics there are not even 1.8 million people in total in Kosovo i Metohija. And even that is most likely a stretch and inflated since they are "official" numbers.

Also, due to the frozen status of this region many Albanians are actually moving from Kosovo i Metohija. They see no future there because well there is none if you don't sell heroin or extract organs.

John

Serbia can just freeze her economic agony for another generation or two or three. And even that would be a success for Serbia judging from the fact that last year: Highest inflation in Europe, considerable income drop, considerable increase in foreign debts.

Common Sense

If the bird is out of the cage, no matter how many times you yell "freeze, freeze", it is not going to stop for you.

Dear Serbs, Kosova is not the ones you left in 1999. Since then, not only have we declared independence, we have actually created a state with functional institutions, with police, courts, foreign policy, soon to be army etc etc. We have rebuilt our homes and our country that you destroyed, even better than it was before. Modern highways now connect Prishtina to Tirana and soon Skopje. More countries in the world recognize us as independent, than recognize your claim over our country. The highest UN court, recognizes our independence as legal under international law. So, despite your best attempts at stopping or freezing Kosova's development, not only have we marched on, we have galloped on forwards. The only thing that you can freeze, is your own imperial ambitions, which are dead and buried 20 feet under, and not even this zombie can bring them to life.

The Serbian "freeze" solution, seem to come from people/politicians who have run out of ideas and don't know what else to say when the mike is in front of their mouth.
And considering that the average age of a Kosova Serb is around 64 and the average age of a Kosova Albanian is 24, waiting for 20 years to discuss it when the percentage of Serbs in Kosova would under 1%, would actually not be bad idea.

EU & US mediated "negotiations" are are term for kids in primary school.

What is wrong with all Serbian politicians.

%90 Ethnic Albanians (lots of them illegal)caused problems for Serbian institutions,Serbian Citizens and police.
As result of that Serbia had to react and protect State and People as any Government would.
With strong support from Western Countries they armed themselves well and carried out terrorism acts for the whole decade.

Now US ans EU (NATO) "Decided" this is "War on Terror" against "Serbian War Criminals,animalS..."

3 months later bombed Serbia day and night
and suffered biggest embarassment in World History achieving "Nothing"

Now,they never even thought of crossing Serbian land on foot they clearly LOST WAR ON KOSOVO IN '99 and signed UN Resolution 1244 that Kosovo Territorial integrity is part of Serbia, that means that they gave in.

However, last 15 years they used political pressure and and money and encouraged Albanians to declare unlateral independence against International law.

WELL DONE EU AND US YOU ARE SO POWERFUL!

I understand all that, now same people they dug our graves for Serbian people from Kosovo are "mediators" and they support %100 Albanians and 0% Serbians.
They now even call in media Serbian Citizens in Kosovo "Ethnic Serbians",what an irony!

He misses a few important points. The negotiations are mediated by theEU because Serbia wants to join the EU. If it ever decides not to (and we are talking Serbia itself and not those living abroad that wants to keep its people in some kind of historical museum) then there would be no reason to continue. He also thinks that they can not join the EU and it is going to continue to pump money into it, that is not going to happen.
As far as freezing the Kosovo issue or returning it under the UNSC for negotiations he forgets that that is what caused Kosovo to declare independence and further be recognized 97 countries. Many countries have decided to wait and see how talks turn out to make a decision on recognition, freezing the issue would only cause many of them to go ahead and make a decision.
I think it is in Serbia's benefit that his party only has a 7% support and that is probably from the oversea voters.

Ari Gold

pre 11 godina

He's right. Its not in Serbia's benefit at all to even discuss Kosovo i Metohija right now. The Serbs there (especially below the Ibar) should be paid by the govt just for living there (Serbia spends stupidly on bloated gov't agencies and gives grants to NGO's to open abortion clinics) as a guarantor of Serbian survival in the province.

These 'negotiations' are a waste of time and only benefits the occupation. Serbia needs to freeze this issue until conditions are favorable for it to be discussed. Serbia will stay in the UN regardless and will be a country. Will the KLA get their UN seat? No.

Zoran

pre 11 godina

Once again he is correct. It seems these negotiations are going nowhere. The DS essentially gave everything away while this government at least is attempting to get something for giving something. However, it seems quite obvious that a brick wall is just about to get hit so admitting that negotiations have failed would be a favourable situation.

By taking it out of the EU and bringing it into the UN, we would have powerful allies supporting us. But then, the EU/US would attempt to sabotage this government.

Yes, and on that other point, the DS need to be removed out of Vojvodina. Given the chance, they would be voted out in an instant if elections were held. Their incompetence, corruption and anti-Serbian policies are all too obvious now.

- Kosova: 18/k, Serbia 9/k

Death Rates:
- Kosova: 7/k, Serbia 14.2/k

Serbs please bring Kostunica in power. Has been some time now since the last serb who thought he can take on the west. This guy can put an end to an unfinished story in the Balkans. So please bring him back.

Common Sense, congratulations to your rapid growth in GDP. And to think that Ari, the good friend of K-Albanians worried so much about your well-being.
