Of course you listed most of the situations but Seselj has become famous for delaying his case. But if you seriously want to look for an answer look at the avalanche of frivolous pretrial motions that had to be answered in the interest of justice.

Yes, I know, he has become so famous for delaying his case that he decided not to call any defense witnesses, which could have delayed it for a further 10 years. LOL! I just can't understand why the so-called judges need months to process this case in what normally takes days in other cases. But then, they changed the indictment 5 times so they are obviously fudging this political farce.

Poor Zoran, will never get past the Serb eternal victim to ever understand life.
what you said is true but only paints a small part of the picture, with the exception of the initial judges.
Soros did fund the first year of the court as the UNSC while establishing the court did not yet work out arrangements to fund it.
That first year was dedicated to setting up rules and procedures, there were not any prosecutors in the first year and no investigations or indictments were presented.
The budget now relies on UN funding and some donations by organizations and states. These donations total less than 1% of the budget.
As far as NATO starting the court it was through the UNSC and introduced by NATO countries. As far as funding goes it is true that NATO pays most of the bills as it comes from the UN budget and NATO countries pay some 75-80%of the UN budget.
You err big time about the initial judges though there were 7 from non NATO countries and 4 from NATO countries. China has always had a judge on the ICTY.

Personally, I can't wait for Seselj to return to Serbia. It will be a catalyst for the entire nationalist/chauvanist/populist wing of Serbian politics to collapse in on itself.

Progressive Serbia needs Seselj

Serbs like to call this a NATO court but in actuality a minority of the judges are from NATO countries. The court has judges from Serbias supposed strongest allies, China, Russia, South Africa.

Poor pss knows nothing about this court. He likes to take a snapshot at a particular time to prove a point.

I'm sorry, but you need to do a little more research than that. The court was initially funded for the whole first year by a Soros foundation. All of the initial judges except one came from NATO countries. At this time, the rules and foundation were set, which essentially excluded NATO from prosecution of their crimes and established what was essentially an anti-Serb fiasco.

I will quote Jamie Shea, NATO's spokes person at that time: Check -> http://www.nato.int/kosovo/press/p990517b.htm

Jamie Shea : As you know, without NATO countries there would be no International Court of Justice, nor would there be any International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia because NATO countries are in the forefront of those who have established these two tribunals, who fund these tribunals and who support on a daily basis their activities.

You do have to credit him with he is a smart man, he knew how to work the system and he did. Just think if he used that intelligence to advance Serbia instead pushing it into ruin.
But his delays has allowed him to serve his time at the Hague Hilton instead of a prison. Not a bad pay back for his actions was it.

Šešelj voluntarily surrendered to the Hague Tribunal on February 24, 2003 and has been incarcerated ever since. His trial started on November 7, 2007.

So he surrenders Feb 24, 2003 and his trial starts Nov 7, 2007? I suppose Šešelj is to blame for that 5 year delay also? LOL! I love to hear people justify this court... pointing to witness intimidation but remaining quiet about Haradinaj's witness assassinations. Hunger strike so he can exercise his right to represent himself instead of accepting a NATO imposed defense (and even the NATO court admitted it was wrong). Contempt of court for revealing witnesses where nearly all of them gave him permission to do so.

Yeah, yeah, we know the Serb haters are out in force but I'm happy that Šešelj has made a mockery of this circus and has wasted valuable time, resources and funds of NATO and NATO nations.

My only question now is whether he will be alive in June. I really have my doubts and to think, it is going to take over a year just to deliver a verdict? LOL! Kangaroo court par excellence!

The problem with anything set up by the UN is you have NO standards to follow. You try to incorporate philosophies from different countries, you bring in judges from judiciary systems that function totally different. However if you had assigned the cases to a single state judiciary you would have more claims of foul than with the ICTY and actually more likely to be accurate.

I am curious to see the outcome of the debate, if Russia and China are going to criticize their own judges.

Despite agreeing with Seselj on some issues I am not his biggest supporter, though his 'trial' is an utter joke. This is a classic case of political perseuction, there is insufficient evidence to convict him of any war crimes because he is simply not guilty, so the ICTY makes a desperate attempt of keeping him imprisoned by charging him of being in comtempt of court. I think the ICTY needs to give up on this now it is absolutely pathetic.

What a joke of a court, They will probably find him guilty and sentence him to time served as to not have a countersuit filed for false imprisonment,

Michael Thomas

pre 11 godina

I expect they'll murder him before June. What else can they do?

This persecuted man has been accused of no murder or theft. He is accused only of using colourful and occasionally vulgar language and of being a Serb. Even this political "court" can not sentence him to any more time than he has served already.

If he is released he will return to politics and become the next President. For this reason he must have a heart attack asap. Now there is a job for the British Secret Service.

A trial this long "is beyond all international standards", Vekarić said, and voiced hope that the final verdict will be delivered in June.

Because the ICTY is not an international standard, simply an ad hoc kangaroo court. Even the institutionalized International Criminal Court was set up sufficiently differently from the ICTY not to be contaminated by the ICTY's interesting reinterpretations and creations of existing laws and undefined legal instruments, manipulated and changed at will simply to achieve a result.
