UAE should be good-paying customers of Serbia, not partners. They have nothing for Serbia except money.
(Ataman, 20 February 2013 04:58)

They are 100% customers., customers who pay to be classified as a partners, scientists, founders, creators or whatever they need to say to their nation.

He lives about 2000 + km northeast of Serbia in a country where you need about six days to cross in a fast train. And he is right with his reservations. I have the same feeling. That does not have much to do with the deal not landing in Russia. UAE should be good-paying customers of Serbia, not partners. They have nothing for Serbia except money.

But this couple can neither buy it because of their reputations nor steal it. So what’s the sense to further spoil their reputation ? I don’t care the Arabs

It is a common knowledge: before the civil war the Yugo's were a much-feared competition at any math olympics. Others were Soviets, (both) Germany teams, Americans.

Since:

- The (former) East German team took over the West German team but lack of fundings and lack of inner-German competition killed what remained. Now they are at the bottom.

- Americans are still great... by "importing" new geniuses, usually from exUSSR or China.

- Chinese, Viet are increasingly great.

- Romanians, Bulgarians, Ukrainians compete well with the three leader countries, so are Indians and Iranians.

- Israeli scores depend on the actual status of immigration from exUSSR, similar of USA - but more consistent. No wonder, drugs + shooting in suburb schools and families is not a custom in IL.

- Hungary is horribly under-founded, it's a shadow what it used to be.

- Belarus, Ukraina, RU are as usual and as strong as you can imagine. Separately not as strong as China but hey, the numbers are less, too. Together all three would be the winners.

- Arab countries do represent the butt of the frog ("béka segge" in Hungarian). Their pupils come to math competition as tourists, they submit their work instantly on an empty sheet and go out to do things they, inshallah, can't do at home. Like drinking a bear.

I am here 200% with the Red Chapel. Few concerns.

#1: The "performance" of UAE pupils in any math competition will make you think, KosovA is the place of math geniuses. I just asked my wife plain (she is a math teacher!): "if you would have opportunity to move and teach math in Prishtinë or Abu Dhabi (with corresponding salaries) - where you would move?
The answer was not surprisingly "Pristina". There is a very valid reason behind that - would you teach pupils with no desire to learn having parents of practically unlimited wealth?

#2: If you would announce, you got a deal with USA, Israel, Russia, Ukraina, China... maybe Iran or VietNam... by God's sake, it's OK, as long as it works out for Srbijo, why not? UAE should be YOUR FAITHFUL, GOOD-PAYING CUSTOMER... and not some "investors".

#3: The unlimited geniuses™ of Serbia's politic elite seem to join their glorious colleagues in Hungary who used to believe, Microsoft makes computers (OK, now it started to make) and all about Apple is the iPhone.

Me thinks, there was some "oil" to grease certain politician hands in Serbia... and we all pay for that "oil".

We have more money than all the Arabs and we still have the update technologies with the industry and personnel required and besides we love the Serbs. Good advantages aren’t them ?
(rote kapelle, 19 February 2013 18:07)

Oh yes, we're working hard on Serbia-Russia relationship, much beyond the publicly known, there's no problem absolutely. We're considering С-300ПМУ-1 credit so Russia will have even more money!

Do you know how long we were under embargo?
Do you know how many countries (probably none) would have significant military capabilities after such a long isolation?

Buying weapons and producing weapons are totally different things and survival of our state depends on our capabilities in that field too. Serbia is old Wolf in it's environment and it would probably not exist today if it was not capable of producing it's own weapons.

We're not friends, we're brothers http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lp0yiHWtcew but we cannot rely on your mighty weapon and sometimes drunk presidents :)

As of the previous comment I'll stay on my own because you obviously do not understand difference and magnitude of ALAS. ALAS will combine technologies necessary for future war becoming multipurpose super speed stealth UAV and that can not be compared or anyhow put in line with weapons you mentioned. Its production equipment will stay on our soil, not necessary to explain that :)

AND, this will finance future weapons we buy from Russia so cleaner relationship we cannot have!

I am a Russian but anyway thank you both for the fun. Russia is selling weapons for USD 15 Bln. annually. For the time being the USA sells even more I guess about 19 Bln. . And I doubt it very much that Serbia and Jamaira Beach can make something to compete this two leaders. To say nothing about the Al Qaeda basis of the Emirates. Today Israel succeeded in drones land-to-air defense systems , France and Sweden in bomber fighters ect. But what can do such backward in sophisticated arms players like UAE and Serbia ? Only to amuse our rivals ! We Russians spend a lot of efforts and money to steal or buy advanced technologies. But this couple can neither buy it because of their reputations nor steal it. So what’s the sense to further spoil their reputation ? I don’t care the Arabs but after being demonized for so long Serbia should be more careful about new friends. Our reputation in the West is nothing better ( which proves that we are on the right way ) but Russia can afford things not available for the Serbs. So I believe Russia could be a better partner. I like the anecdote ! But after two decades of the sanctions and devastating wars and stagnation little does remained of the Serbian industry. To say nothing of the advanced technologies required for such tools. Funny is the Al Qaeda partner Serbia has chosen for the “light missiles” to be produced. So it’s beyond my understanding and I wonder who that genius was whom such an idea had occurred first ? Emirates can afford both Patriots and the S-300 or battlefield Igla and Stingers complexes if the Salaffites mean dropping down helicopters and civil planes. Strange is the choice of the partner as well. Now Serbia’s neighboring fun club has got something to practice their humor about. Congrats !
