Kind of a silly article. We are 3 years away from electing a new Secretary General to start with. Jeremics term is up in 7 months and if he returns to Serbia and gets tied up in the Serbian political mess then it could end his international career.
Should the Kosovo issue be settled by then he may have a chance, a slim one, but as long as the Kosovo issue is before the UNSC he has absolutely no chance at the position. For those of you who are predicting that the US is going to curl up and sit meekly in the corner, it will not happen in your life time.
Serbia and Kosovo has divided the UNSC and unless that issue is settled he will not get the job nor will Serbia get a seat on the UNSC.

FYI folks,

China is the world’s largest trading nation in terms of imports and exports posting a 231.1 billion surplus as opposed to a 727.9 billion loss for the US. The world and in particular groups such as the IMF and various economic organisations understand that China will want a candidate that can represent their interests equally in the UN high office and not a Western muppet as with decades gone by. Jeremic? Yup.

Russia as it has been explained will back Jeremic in the second round.

France has been moving towards Russia in recent years and sees a major portion of their economic recovery boosted tapping into a growing Russian local market like the Germans have done before them. Gerries removed their gold from the BOE and Knox as many countries soon following suit.

There is a split in the UK parliament with the majority favouring a change and building relations with China, again ‘it’s the economy stupid’ leading the change.

The US is in a bad condition both economically and reputation wise can it really afford to veto a candidate and on what grounds other than personal. Can it afford further isolation after seeing it on a limb with the Palestinian vote. The US borrowed 288 Billion to post a 0.1% retraction to it’s economy in it's last quarter, how long can it have soft power on the international stage.

Ha, ha, ha... who told that to the "Daily" ? Vuk himself ?! Because the only place where Vuk could be in the race is in Vuk's megalomaniac head. He did indeed have an opportunity to show if he was worthy of the UNSG role, but being immature he did not take that opportunity. You normally don't hear Ban speak every other day about North Korea.

Since Slovakia had to recognise Kosovo passports in 2008 thats hardly a recent development. Any nice statements towards Kosovo came from the former government before April 2012 and any subsequent U-turns can be put down to Kaiserin Angela pressure.

A Slovak would be good too. Slovakia did not recognise Kosovo so that is sure to bug them just as much if it was Jeremic.
(Peggy, 17 February 2013 15:28)

Aye but the Slovaks have been very very very friendly with the Kosovans recently. Personally, I think the UN should be disbanded. The world powers, USA, Russia, and to some extent the others in the UNSC, use the UN for political purposes to suit their agendas. When the UN does not comply, the world powers do as they please anyway, as in America's illegal war on the former Yugoslavia, or the Iraq invasion - both proven to be for geo-political interests. It cost way too much money for these free-loading world representatives to come to NYC, and spew their malcontent about other nations. The UN has no real power, and what power it should have, is ignored by powerful nations. Better for all world representatives to meet yearly at Disney World, and let loose in the park. Going through the Matterhorn ride would be lot more fun, and constructive, than listening to the world's talking heads, talk garbage. And for the Albanian commentators here, we can be quite sure that the UN will never, ever, never, have an Albanian in any leadership function at the UN. If that ever happened, we would be witnessing the end of the world.

I will place my bet on Czech, but Slovak will be just as well. Jeremic will never get on that chair. I wonder if he will send a protest note to Egypt for recognizing Kosova, on the capacity of UNGA President!?
(Ardi Asllani, 17 February 2013 13:09)

You clowns said the same about the position he is in now. Never say never! One thing is for sure though, an Albanian would never even be in the discussion for such a high international position anywhere in the world.

Actually no, we do not choose our friends based on whether they recognize Kosovo or not. Just like Serbia does not base its relations on whether someone recognized Kosovo or not. If you notice 80% of the time your politicians are traveling it is to countries that have already recognized Kosovo.

Not at all. A Slovak would be a great choice despite they did not recognize Kosovo, because the Slovaks unlike the broken and bankrupt 4 other once don't take this to an emotional level and see it from their way. I don't see any grudge from Albanian side when it comes to Slovakia. Pretty sure that USA and Albania would vote for him, unlike Jeremic who is just a mockery for each diplomatic corps and a disgrace to the UNGA. Ban Ki Moon certainly did not forget how he abused the UNGA for public mockery, forcing him openly regret that event. Actually, that event alone will make sure that Jeremic was the first and last time in an official UN position. So after it had some good.

Remember the UN is this organization that has just been watching 70,000 people die in Syria - doing nothing. One should think that running such an organization does not require special skills.

Gustave, this is just a stunt made up by BIA for domestic purposes, to prop domestic popularity of Vuk as he is currently negotiating with both Nikolic and Dacic to join SPS or SNS.
