This article should be preserved forever. Both Serbs and Albanians agree on something for the first time.
As much as one might think it in bad taste, flags burning is a practice everywhere. You don't see people getting arrested for this.
You can burn all those flags in any other European country which is part of EU and not get arrested but you burn them in Serbia, which is NOT in EU and you get arrested. Why? Why is Serbian protecting those flags when their own countries are not?
Is someone going to get arrested if they burn a Serbian flag in any EU country or in the US? Of course not and they shouldn't. They can express their displeasure in any way which does not involved attacking or intimidating others.

The 'EU' now has a legal personality, but it is hardly a foreign country. More accurately it should be described as a mess.

If anything, this shows that the interpretation of basic law in some circumstances owes more to politics and personality than legality. If it is a successful conviction (unlikely), it will almost certainly be struck down on appeal.

A stupid waste of time and money and profoundly anti-democratic.

There are several vans of riot police around Schuman today with a riot/water-cannon lorry (a.k.a. Belgian Thunderbird) hiding two minutes away. Some sort of tiny demonstration on the Rond Point. It looks completely over the top.

Something really strange is happening in Serbia! First Dacic goes lovey dovey with Taci, then Toma meets up with Atifete and now Serbia wants to imprison people for burning colored cloth/ flags. What on earth is going on in Serbia? This is 5 years after Serbs burned the embassies of the countries with the same flags and they hesitated to imprison anyone. Someone please explain what is going on in Serbia!! If Tadic had done any of this he would have been murdered.

What are Arabs doing in Serbia? Avni
They got tired of hanging workin' in Pristina. Building all those Saudi financed mosques is a bitch. So go north for some R&R in BG. In Serbia, you can have some fun, and people don't care who you are, or where you are from. In Pristina, if you are not Albanian, or American of course, you stand to get your ass kicked. Ziveli Srbija, the land of the free, and the home of the brave.

Ridiculous fabricated moral outrage. We burn American flags every day here in the USA. It's one of our favorite things to do ;) Sometimes we burn the quran and the bible too. Here in America we've burned the flag of every other country in the world. For those who believe in civil rights, it's called freedom of speech. For those who don't, it's called 'sad day for you'.

what an absurd law, and absurd punishment for an absurd act.
I don't know what he figures he accomplished burning the flag, and I don't know what punishing him for it accomplishes. I would see this differently if he didn't own the flag, but if he wants to buy flags and burn them jumping up and down, he isn't really hurting anyone else's reputation

Yes, expressing 'free speech' the Muslim way. Comparable to Kosovo Albanians claiming that sending threats is covered by 'freedom of speech', and usurping land owned by a monastery is part of 'freedom of movement' :)
(Comm. Parrisson, 11 February 2013 18:20)

Ahhhh I thought I was coming here to make a comment to defend these Serbs for burning American flags; instead I guess I'll have to give you a virtual spanking.

Actually....it's futile for me to waste energy on you, it's the equivalent of arguing with a wall. Just know, YOU...ARE...WRONG. Full stop.

Flag burning is a highly provocative act. While I agree such acts should be protected here in the US, I think Serbia is wise to criminalize it. In a neighborhood with so many different countries with such a nasty history, it is a high standard of civility that once again advances Serbia, its history and its future.

If I were a Serb in Serbia, and the law did not prohibit it, I would be roasting my breakfast every morning over Croatian and Albanian flags.

I think you screwed your head on the wrong way this morning. I don't think burning flags of the EU/NATO/etc... after releasing two war criminals for political reasons can be compared to threatening the lives of monks and burning down a UNESCO listed monastery.

In fact, it's the same side turning a blind eye to Albanian crimes while pursuing people burning their flags.

Makes sense since the monopoly on "free speech" in Serbia is owned by Soros & NED. In fact it should be criminalized like it is criminal and "hooliganistic" to have an opinion that differs from B92 whenever they say so because €USSR would praise it as "a giant step towards democracy and membership".

This is a jaw dropping article. Criminal charged for burning an EU flag outside of the EU, just goes to show how the government is completely bought by the EU. I would love to know under what laws this is punishable, seems absolutely disgraceful that someone can be charged for this. You wouldn't even be charged for burning an EU flag in the UK, and that is saying something.

There should be a mass anti-EU rally organized by all anti-EU parties and organizations where hundreds of EU flags are burned, let them try and punish everyone there for doing so.

Danilo

Burning the US flag is constitutionally protected in the US as free speech. Many court cases have affirmed this right.

Why, if burning the US flag isn't illegal in the US, should it be illegal in Serbia?

Michael Thomas

In a Serbia owned by the global elite and controlled by NATO thugs, the only flags you are permitted to burn is the Serbian flag.

Zoran

pre 11 godina

This is nothing more than a protest expressing free speech. The NATO court, NATO and the US have done enough on their own to destroy their reputation. It is absurd to arrest these people.
