I am sad that a Serb is dead, but if he was stupid enough to die for a Bosniak then that’s his problem. How many Serbs were protected by Bosniaks or Croats from ending up in Jasenovac?
I am so tired of hearing about this crap about brotherhood and unity – they can shove it up the proverbial black hole.
It is time for Serbs to look after Serbs and to hell with the rest. We come first and if there is anything else left on the table after we have eaten our fill then throw it to the rest otherwise they can take a flying leap.
(sj, 7 February 2013 12:20)

A man stepped in to save his friends from a beating or worse from fascist thugs, paid with it for his life yet you have the barefaced cheek to condemn him for that. I would do the same if I was put in Srdjan's shoes, irrespective of nationality. He is a real hero and deserves to be recognised as such. You on the otherhand deserve nothing but our scorn and condemnation. What a hateful and spiteful individual you are. You deserve to put in the same corner as Willi, EA, roberto etc. with all the other sad and pathetic trolls.

I'd say that people that can't see the good in Aleksic have some problems of their own they need to deal with.

Oh, there is good no doubt about that but what you can do with it in a war time? Have you been useful yourself then? I don't think so..

After WW2 they asked the German people who followed Hitler and the answer came back, very few. They were all against Hitler but somehow Adolph got into power and here we have a Croat telling me how his … saved Serbs. What were their names? Ante Pavelic and his wife?

Like your FranjoTudjman 99% of Croats were for Pavelic and his regime. It was only when the Ustashi look like loosing that Tudjman changed sides and became a communist as did many other Croats. Prior to that the partisans were serbs.

Aleksic was a good un, no question. There will be a documentary film which will premiere at this year's Belgrade FEST called Krugovi which has already sold many tickets.

I'd say that people that can't see the good in Aleksic have some problems of their own they need to deal with.

That's an interesting story, Ida.

too bad Kovacevic chose to flee the country instead of fighting for his lilly-white innocence.

Kovacevic isn't in jail because of "a muslim". Kovacevic isn't in jail at all. Kovacevic SHOULD be in jail because he because he beat and caused permanent brain damage to some poor kid because he talked to a girl.

Alexic isn't dead because of "a muslim". Alexic is dead because Serbian soldier-thugs killed him for aiding a civilian during an armed conflict who was being beaten for his last name (contrary to the laws and customs of war).

Alexic isn't "stupid" because he helped his friend. He's human. More than I can say about you, according to what I've seen.

What is it about some serbs that cause them to blindly support thugs.

Kovacevic beat up a scrawny little kid for talking to a girl and you praise him.

Alexic died protecting a fellow human being and you spit on him.

(Danilo, 6 February 2013 18:59)

What are you talking about? Both Kovacevic and Aleksic were stupid to do what they did. Kovacevic ended up in jail because of a muslim, Aleksic ended up dead because of a muslim. Where is my support for Kovacevic ?

It's so disappointing to read such a nice story & immediately see comments about how stupid Serbs are and their logic etc.

You should be ashamed of yourselves. You can't even read a nice story and just make a nice comment but immediately you start writing something negative. Hope you'll learn better next time.

This is nice story of a human saving a human. My Grandmother & her family in the WW2 ran from their house and were under shelling attack when they were saved by a Bosnian muslim family who gave them shelter.

Why can't you people just have some belief in humanity and good people from all nationalities and when something like this happens, be proud of the people that have the courage to want to help another innocent human.

I can truly understand Srdjan's reason for trying to stop them beating up his friend.
This friend was not a soldier and was not engaged in hostile activity against the Serbs. He should've been allowed to pass through. I also understand that war is brutal and it brings out the worst in people but it can also bring out the best in people. I would step in to protect my friend too. If this Muslim man was his friend then surely he does not hate Serbs and should not be seen as an enemy. Surely we can expect that there was going to be kindness shown even in those brutal times.
Maybe I have no right to judge either way because I have never experienced war, but I hope that we can preserve our humanity even in war.

RIP Srdjan.

"Kovacevic beat up a scrawny little kid for talking to a girl and you praise him."

No, Kovacevic interfered in a fight, which had already drawn blood, between a Bosnian Muslim, named Sanel, and the Jewish (probably drunk) guy, Bryan Steinhauer. The Bosnian Muslim was angry at B.S. for getting and staying close to his girlfriend. They had words and then B.S. headbutted Sanel, according to the girlfriend's account, and his nose started bleeding.

That's when Kovacevic came between the 2 and was rewarded with a hit from Bryan Steinhauer. The girlfriend said she didn't know whether Bryan was aiming at her boyfriend or Kovacevic, but it hit Kovacevic, who angry, pushed him down.

Kovacevic claims he walked away after shoving him down, which would lead Sanel and his friend, another Muslim from Bosnia, beating him. They admitted to hitting him on the ground, after first denying it, but then claimed they didn't hit him in the head area. Rrrrright.

Of course the accusations claim Kovacevic beat him, but I believe he walked off and just left him vulnerable to the "tender mercies" of the Muslim guys.

You remember what Mr.Burns?

That it happened something what you believe it happened but it actually never happened?

Srdjan's place was to die in action against Pakistanis like one of participants in incident, not to significantly destruct our mission in Bosnia. In wartime you don't need people like him holding your peoples weapon, imagine thousand of such a characters.

And if you'd like to change policy toward prisoners, there's always better way then exercising your "local" self given rights, by force, against people who traveled miles to help save your butt out there.

How do you think he wanted to stop them?

Maybe like : Hi, my name is Srdjan Aleksic and I guarantee for this fighting capable enemy who's having false documents. In 1993 :)

Also, he should have give him some AK-47, just to feel safe while planting bomb in some Serb factory, who knows.

I mean, I would punish any brutality during wartime but I'd be brutal myself to any destructive self given rights character inside unit, there's no question about that.

War is war, it's a state which should not be confused with anything else.

First of all you must know what and how happened, exactly.

This is how dumb Serbs are. You help the enemey and you end up in trouble. Miladin Kovacevic would still be playing basketball for his university if he wasnt stupid enough to help the muslim who couldnt control his gf. I remember when that happened...I remember thinking at the time, how Srdjan captured the embodiment of proper Serbian behavior in that time of difficulty. Srdjan Chose to take a stand and attempted to stop an injustice from happening( and sacrifice he made with his life is also for other unknown Serbians that behaved properly in that time to fight against injustice) ...say what you will,I believe he is a True Serbian Hero.

Unfortunately, I have yet to find other groups that were/are brave enough to protect the Serbian minorities in their arias.
