Technically the most successful operation of the Red/Soviet Army was Operation Bagration in Belorussia. We lost minimal forces and killed or wounded or captured maximal of the Germans&Co. But most desisive were Moscow and Stalingrad. In Moscow some 7 mln. troops and civillians were involved on two sides. After the war 90% of the Wehrmacht soldiers and officers when asked what period of the war they had understood that they are to loose the war said - Moscow. But Stalingrad was nothing less important. In each of the two battle we have lost more personnel than the total combat losses of all anti-Hitler coalition countries put together. Each time the figures went far above one million of our beloved people including my Grandpa. You cannot compare it even with Kursk where each side have lost about "only" 45-50 thousand killed. Like WW2 was a sequence of WW1 Kursk was a sequence of Stalingrad. The Kursk bow appeared during the Stalingrad counter attack of ours and the Germans meant to revenge us the same way by embracing from north and the south. But in summer of 1943 we were much stronger. After Stalingrad we never retreated and in Kursk Wehrmacht attacked the last time in WW2. It’s a pity many people in the USA believe that we fought on Hitler side and have no idea that before mid-1944 on the continent only the UK and Yugoslavia fought on our side. Both started their wars before 1941. Another sequence direct of Stalingrad and Kursk was the Overlord Operation.
