Rocky, Kosovo cannot join anything, it is not a country.
(winston, 31 January 2013 13:36)

That's your personal opinion which you are certainly entitled to. As for Kosovo, is has certainly joined many international organizations and it is considered a country by the majority of the countries in the world but I'm sure those countries would love to hear winston's opinion on the matter :)

Well, Russia and China will block Kosovo entering UN. Which is a very good thing! Again: do not support unilateral declarations of independence!
(Ron, 1 February 2013 04:08)

Ok, let's assume it is so... Russia and China will also block Kosovo entering UN if Kosovo were to agree to go back under Serbia. So your point is ?!

(Peggy, 31 January 2013 23:53)

Yes, but not Serbia... I know that megalomania makes Serbs think they are the masters of the universe, but unfortunately the reality is that Serbia is not a permanent UNSC member, yet.

Pls say it ain't so!!!

(Daniel, 1 February 2013 13:20)

Well Slick, two things for ya’ – You and your boys killed close to 10,000 Albanians and expelled over 1 million in 1999 from Kosova, and you want to talk about “normalization”!!

Karma is a Bit@

Daniel

What does "normalisation" means to you?

Without formal independent Kosovo recogntion from Serbia it will hard to believe that we are really talking about any normalisation.

After that has been established first then we can talk true normalisation....

it seems like Germany is helping Russia in this... as if they are doing it deliberately to help serbian EU-opponents gaining support.

Danke Deutschland!

I might be wrong, but I cannot say that it looks like Germany is trying to ease the sentiments... and as a matter of fact - this serves serbian interests.

interesting.

This guy is getting a reputation for being a bit of a NAZI.

Milosevic had that kind of reputation too.

Putin is getting a bit that way as well.

.....

The EU was founded on cooperation. It is a mistake for anyone in the EU to try to be too insistent that policy should be made from Brussels. Policy should be something that all the countries are happy with. The EU needs to make it much clearer what it is that is on offer, rather than just put out the message about what is demanded.

Although this topic or thread doesn't concern the Hague Tribunal I just thought I'd mention that even though it's unfortunate for Kosovo that China & Russia which I believe are permanent members of the United Nations Security Council may have the ability to veto Kosovo's aspiration to attain a "seat" at the UN (of course I don't like it that China & Russia can do this to Kosovo) at least thank goodness that China & Russia have not plotted to disrupt the proceedings at the Hague Tribunal when it comes to Serbs being tried and/or convicted for war crimes since China & Russia are or appear to be closely allied or have a mutual understanding with Serbia. In fact if China & Russia were to dispatch their troops or commandos to liberate Serb inmates who are detained at the Hague Tribunal I trust that Holland would not permit Chinese & Russian troops or commandos to wreak havoc against the Hague detention center otherwise Chinese or Russian troops or commandos might get their butts slain or injured by the Dutch army or commandos which wouldn't bother me especially if Chinese & Russian troops or commandos put up a fierce resistant or refuse to surrender.

Simple fact is that once Germany takes control of Europe it always destroys it.

It rewards its NAZI supporters and punishes its NAZI opponents. Nothing new here. The EU is a sick puppy now, with the UK threatening to leave, Spain and Belgium fracturing, the Czech Republic getting all nostalgic about communism. Poland forming a Euroskeptic lobby and so on.

Nothing surprising, just that time is running out so pressure on Serbia is increasing. If China can build the world's tallest building in 90 days, I am just wondering how long our ally will become the dominant world power. Not that long it seems.

Albania, will in the future, be the one country that takes you in and assures you, NATO membership!!!
(Rocky, 31 January 2013 12:23)

The economy/living standards/military will never see improvement in Kosovo i Metohija, simply too much corruption. Now, Ian will tell us how "Kosovo has the fastest growing economy in Europe", I have not seen such a thing but in the case of Kosovo i Metohija, there's no where to go but up since any lower standards would result in famine. Europe, through the EU is not growing at all and many are contracting so it really goes to show you how bad things are in Western Europe right now when Ian compares them to the KLA occupation.

Now if Ian really believes in the positive future for Albanians in an Albanian occupied Kosovo i Metohija and truly believes this fastest growing economy crap will result into a strong and independent "state" then I pray to God he never gets removed from disability benefits and should probably see a mental health specialist.

Uhh ok? Well yeah technically Serbia cannot keep the KLA from applying for a seat and the Security Council has the final say but through Russia and China this application would be denied. 5 years with no UN membership? Lets get serious, real countries don't take 5 years to lobby for recognition's and membership. Ian can say what he wants but the last two countries to be formed were Montenegro and South Sudan. Their recognition's came within a month and they joined the UN no problem.

And you've only managed to get this far because of corrupt leadership in Belgrade and money you receive from the West. Personally, I see it as the Albanians in Kosovo as having unresolved issues with Serbia, and not the Serbs. It's the separatist Albanians that are trying to form another Albanian State on Serbian territory. Mr. German ambassador, you should be placing conditions to your former WWII ally, the Albanians, and not Serbia. As for an independent Albanian Kosovo joining the UN, tell Russia and China in UNSC about your support for a UN seat for them, see what they say. Back off a bit from Serbia for a while, Germany, you are not rulers of the universe.

Milli

pre 11 godina

The Ambassador has said “If one day Kosovo submits such a request, the General Assembly will decide on it at the proposal of the UN Security Council,”. Note the condition if one day.
He also commented that the UN seat is not prerequisite for Serbia in order to get a date for the negotiations.

Ned Taylor

pre 11 godina

I am surprised that B92 think this article qualifies as 'news'. Nothing that this gentleman said is new at all. It isn't just Serbia that cannot block a country's UN membership(or other status).......even the mighty USA failed to block observer status for Palestine recently. As for developing good neighbourly relations, this has been known since the declaration of independence and talks have been ongoing ever since. There are enough general conditions for any country aspiring to EU membership to meet without being given other specific conditions by individual members. I would like to see a condition within Croatia's accession treaty stating that it cannot veto membership applications from other Balkan states. If such a condition is not stipulated there is a risk that they will try to do to Serbia what Slovenia did to them.

Teslavio

Serbia cannot block it but Germany cannot push it through either. So what we have is a stalemate. Serbia is not going anywhere and Germany will eventually have to go home. It's sad funny when I look back at twentieth century history. He also commented that the UN seat is not prerequisite for Serbia in order to get a date for the negotiations.

it seems like Germany is helping Russia in this... as if they are doing it deliberately to help serbian EU-opponents gaining support.

Danke Deutschland!

I might be wrong, but I cannot say that it looks like Germany is trying to ease the sentiments... and as a matter of fact - this serves serbian interests.

Typical Germans, nothing ever changes. Listen Heinz, your diktat may work on your loyal servants the Croats, Bosnian muslims, and albanians, but they don't work on Serbs. You haven't learned a thing from your history have you?
Serbia, through Russia, will not only block Kosovo from EVER getting a UN seat, but they will also regain full control of all of Kosovo eventually, just watch and see. Kosovo is sovereign Serbian soil, and don't you forget that.
Cheers!!

Serbia cannot block it but Germany cannot push it through either. So what we have is a stalemate. Serbia is not going anywhere and Germany will eventually have to go home. Then the stalemate will be resolved. I am not suggesting by war but by honest and sincere negotiations. Albanians will have to negotiate in order to survive as a nation. And not just with Serbs but with Montenegrins and Greeks as well.

Winston

Personally, I see it as the Albanians in Kosovo as having unresolved issues with Serbia, and not the Serbs. It's the separatist Albanians that are trying to form another Albanian State on Serbian territory. Mr. German ambassador, you should be placing conditions to your former WWII ally, the Albanians, and not Serbia. As for an independent Albanian Kosovo joining the UN, tell Russia and China in UNSC about your support for a UN seat for them, see what they say. Back off a bit from Serbia for a while, Germany, you are not rulers of the universe.

Fortunately that money wont always be there (much to Ian's disappointment) and its not like you are making good use of that money now other than Thaci building nice houses from himself. When it all dries up......we shall see.

It's sad funny when I look back at twentieth century history. The relationship between Germany, the Austro-Hungarian Empire, and Serbia has always taken the form of ultimatums from the Imperialists and desperate efforts to compromise from the Serbs until it is impossible to compromise any further. The result of such dynamics resulted in the deaths of millions of Europeans. It seems the Germans/Austrians have learned nothing from their fail history based on the diplomacy of ultimatums.
