Holocaust victims remembered in Serbia

who cares already, what about the hundreds of thousands and millions of other nations that lost the same from murders it was not just the jews .it seems the jews are the ones crying the most and its boring already. i have read that millions of russians died and the same in other countries and my serbian friend showed me at how nazis and the croat nazis killed little serb kids and other none combatants including woman and old and the albanian nazis and bosniak nazis did the same so lets hold a holoucost for everyone that was murdered and not just the jews.

You are correct, Tim, all victims that were murdered because of political ideologies, or ethnic hatred, should be remembered, and equally so. Jews have a right to their commemorations, as do all other people, but I understand what you are saying. Why aren't Serbs, who died brutal deaths at the hands of Croatian Nazi's, given the same attention as the Jews of the Nazi holocaust? Unfortunately, the world, and some governments, uses these commemorations for political influence - in other words, if you are painting someone as the bad guy, you cannot paint him as ever being a victim too.

It's long past time that Serbs have a designated day each year to remember the 100s of thousands of Serbs who were massacred by Croatian nazis for no other 'reason' than they were not of the same religion. My maternal grandfather met such a fate, a simple farmer, who harbored no hate against anyone.

Here are some facts about WW2. In total about 50 million lost their lives and of that about 25 million were Russians while the Serbs tally was anywhere from 1 million to over that number. Now how many people know these facts? Very very few and why is this? Because only the jews died from 1940 to 1945.
It is also very interesting that the jews had a campaign to quash the Armenians from calling their losses at the hands of the Turks genocide. This was all over the fact that the word genocide can only be associated with jews.

I don't know if I should cry or laugh.

you are lucky one that your comment was posted, an I commend you for an honest comment. I wish my comment was posted as well, but it seems like someone is scare to death to post the truth.

Why is it that Serbia never mentions or acknowledges the ethnic Germans who were killed, put in camps, stripped of their homes, by Tito during WWII in Vojvodina? That is a part of Serbian history that is never mentioned, written about, or acknowledged.

Sarah, same goes to 40,000 Hungarian civilian victimes in Vojvodina.

Serbia (privately) is saying it will pay restitution to the Danube
swabians of Vojvodina, but it will not mention them in in this article. Why would this still be a secret in Serbia? It is a well known, documented fact of what happened there to thousands of innocent ethnic germans - who's only crime was being a ethnic German living in Vojvodina for hundreds of years.

Yes Bill that happened too. The article states Serbia did not discriminate with the Jews, but they did with other nationalities living on their soil.

The last paragraph should really be corrected or redacted. 12 million Soviet civilians died during World War Two and millions of others, too. The Holocaust alone claimed 12 million lives, there were 6 million others aside from the Jews murdered. Poor journalism.

It is not enough to simply count deaths for WWII, you must distinguish between those who were killed in combat and those systematically murdered in cold blood as prisoners, as the Serbs and the Jews were murdered. Especially those murdered in places like concentrations camps set aside for the specific purpose of committing those murders on entire populations. Those most universally targeted for mass murder were the Jews, but the Serbs were the next most targeted people in places like Croatia where the Catholic Croatian lust for blood was obscene even by Nazi standards.
