Well that is a change, the first time you have not insisted that all of the US is just going to vaporize and cease to exist.

I've always known that it's Putin who pulls the strings in Russia but one would've thought that both president and prime minister speak with one voice on foreign policy matters.

With regard to the scenario of Lebanisation of Syria that you so eloquently describe (btw I don't disagree)it seems that Assad doesn't feature at all and I would imagine you concede that he's already toast.

I don't doubt that all these Western interventions in the Middle East have caused monumental upheavals and have entered into uncharted territory( Libya and Mali are good examples). The US and UK governments have been issuing orders to their citizens to leave Libya(I wonder what happened to democracy).I also agree with you that Turkey will be the next to go the Syria way.

I always liked your independent viewing but please pay little attention to what Medvedev says because it is Putin who makes the things happen. Medvedev just plays the role of the good cop … Besides you should know that if only the foreigners leave Syria the military machine of the opposition will be destroyed within a month. So the dialogue will mean a big advantage to Assad. I don’t think Syria has big chances to survive as a state. The radicalization leaves no chance to keep the country in the old frame. Kurds are almost independent and so will do other minorities/ Alliwites will move to the coast where they are from and so will do the Druz ect.

Thus the Lebanon scenario is most real. Turks will reap the harvest they deserve. As soon as the armed Islamists are back their homes we’ll be witnessing many Mali kinda events. So the developments are still ahead and I am afraid the worst ones. All we (Russia+Iran+Iraq) have to do is to stay firm until the things start to change in our favor. Guess it will happen this year. Say if the Islamists have to move some of their gangs to Mali it will weaken them in Syria where they failed to maintain united front. So we’ll see what’s gonna happen. Shia government of Iraq has no doubts that if only Assad is out of the game all the Sunni gangs will be back home.

What is also interesting, a couple of days ago there was an article in one of the major newspapers where a Colonel from the Chinese military warned Australia not to take sides in any conflict between China and US. Now it’s a fact that Japan is suffering badly as a result of an economic backlash from Chinese people over a couple of disputed islands between the two countries.
Within 24 hours of that article we had the Australian Prime Minister, Julia Gillard, announce that Australia’s interests are with South East Asia and not Europe or the US. The US has been kicked out of South China Seas completely. It means Australia is gone.
All of this takes time but the powers are changing. The US is starting these little wars to try and kick start their economy, but the latest projections are the US will have stagnation for at least a decade.

Your "zone of interest" is an area where 22 Mio are tired of Assad/Russian rule. The time of both has come and there are even some in Russia who are terrified that they did not recognize that:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2013/jan/27/medvedev-assad-power-syria-shrinking

The port in Tartus has been decreased to the most minimal level. All of the 3 Russian ships have been re-assigned to other fleets. Russian citizen leave the country in panic.

Russia was impotent to help Serbia, just it is impotent help Assad. Soon that part of the Mediterranean Sea will be neutralized from Russian presence, the last one after clearing the Balkans in 1990s. And Syria will never forget the treachery that Assad has been supported.

I wished you were right but trying to read into Medvedev's interview with CNN at Davos it seems to me that a different picture is emerging.“I think that with every day, every week and every month the chances of his preservation are getting smaller and smaller,” Medvedev said and continuing "the task for the United States, the Europeans and regional powers(Turkey) is to sit the parties down for negotiations, and not just demand that Assad go and then be executed like Gadhaffi. These statements -if reported correctly-do not sound like a Russian vote of confidence in Assad.Do they?

No doubt Assad is a dictator, same as Saddam and Mubarak in Egypt and albanians were not always treatet well by Belgrad. However, has the removal of these dictators resulted in any real improvement? Look at Irak where the sectarian violence is worse then its ever been. Look at Egypt where the newly "elected" president Mursi imposed a new law granting him powers similar to a dictator. 20 million christians live in Egypt and only one representative in the government. In Kosovo you have suspected warcriminal in power. Even though never convicted we all know they are guilty. Under Milosevic albanians stayed in Kosovo, under albanian/Eu/american rule serbs live in ghettoes, except for north Kosovo. All former yug states are plagued by corruptionn but nowhere as bad as in Kosovo. Kosovo has had international rule and still it can't creat a civil and democratic society. You know nothing of how came that the national majority helped by a dozen of foreign states fail to quit with Assad for 22 months and why the CNN-AL JAZEERA-FOX propaganda cannot demoralize the government forces. The initial problem was that the Sunni people here were mostly rich and they has always ignored the military service while the Aliwites called now as Allawites have used their chance. As a result almost all armed forces are composed of them and partly of the Christians the Druze and the Shias. Sunni Kurds are also on our side. Half of the Sunnis here would also prefer Assad to the massacre and the Salafites known as Wakhabbites. With firm support of ours and Iran and Iraq we have a good chance to destroy the international bandits sent there by the “democratic” monarchies that you support. You will also be surprised that there are positive changes in the US approach to the problem coz after his Inauguration Obama has his hands more free to stop fighting the Islamists in one country and supporting them in another. Also he has no illusions over what the democracy really is. So you Albanians may dream of whatever it occurs to you but forget about any success in Syria. It is our zone of influence and the current fleet maneuvers proves it. None of the western or their puppet Arab dog dares to bark. So best if the Deep Throats in our KM do the same.

Many posts in the public sector, the military and government were generally reserved for Baathists, which helped boost party membership. By 1981, some 375,000 people had joined the party. By 2010, this number had reportedly risen to 1.2 million - nearly 10% of the population.

Therefore, the rest of 90% was treated as second class citizens, even though in majority. It is the same as 8-9% of K-Serbs to govern Kosova.
