According to Schultz the European electorate are too stupid and cannot be trusted to decide for themselves and about Europe.

Never a truer statement made. The Euro political elite (mostly unelected) are very dismissive of the 'ignorant masses' who seem to stupid to know whats good for them.

“Some day we will have the ‘United States of Europe’,” Schulz said and added that it was “possible and necessary” to form such a structure.

Really? Who is going to be the president?

Who is going to tell all those pesky little unimportant states (no longer countries) how to live?
Anyone in their right mind will run from EU now.

I am guessing Germany needs to unload a lot of undesirable people off to lesser states and once they rule Europe (as they tried twice before) they will.

mr minister, this case is unique, and will not open up pandoras box.
think about it. britain is an island. not connected to the rest of europe by land, and as such no other country is like it. britain speaks english natively and no other eu country does. they still have their currency, and it is the only currency of european nations that was used as a global reserve currency. all unique. let their uniquness guide their freedoms. it can't happen elsewhere because they are unique.

There may well be a United States of Europe one day, but how many countries will be a part of it? Such a dramatic move would surely require all countries, not just the UK, to gain the consent of their citizens in a referendum. History shows that the results of such referenda are unpredictable with France, Holland, Ireland and Denmark all rejecting proposals that had the support of the majority of the political establishment in those countries. Rightly or wrongly many British people, especially the older generation, feel disinclined to grant France and Germany the hegemony that they failed to achieve by more militaristic methods than currently being employed. I almost sound like a bullshitting diplomat myself!

"United States of Europe, yes Mr. Schultz, where some some nations will be a little bit more powerful than others"
(winston, 25 January 2013 16:00)

Maybe it's because some nations/countries are 'a little bit bigger' and have 'a little bit more' inhabitants (80 mio vs. 2mio) than others?

Besides that, important decisions (still) have to be made unanimously, and smaller countries have more seats in the parliament relative to the number of their citizens.

United States of Europe, yes Mr. Schultz, where some some nations will be a little bit more powerful than others, and dictate to others, namely Germany. Any way you turn it, the EU is based around Germany, and to a lesser degree France, Italy, Spain, and the rest. We shall see.

The European Parliament president said Cameron’s idea was “dangerous” and that it could open Pandora’s Box because other countries would probably follow in Britain’s footsteps.

It's a common secret the only reason this speech was made was for his own narrow party interests, Cameron is an egotistical bare faced lying opportunist but Schultz is not any better.According to Schultz the European electorate are too stupid and cannot be trusted to decide for themselves and about Europe.

Schultz and his fellow travellers are deluding themselves in believing EU will emerge out of the crisis as the United states of Europe. There is no way back, no recovery , no fix , no resolution, no cure, you cannot solve a debt crisis by creating more debt.We are on a one way ticket to collapse and the idea of United states of Europe is to cover the real plans of how to manufacture power grabs and centralise power on the world chess board for the new world order.
