Ari,

And you were, what? 12 years old in 2000?

Have you ever been to Serbia? Seriously, have you? If so, can you count on one hand how many weeks of your life you've spent in Serbia? If not, surely 2 hands can cover it.

And as for your, "let diaspora Serbs run the show", yes, I get it.

Incredible that Serbs everywhere swallow their politicians shallow, transparent lies and sellout of national
interests! God help them!

You the other posters, the govt of Serbia constantly talk of "new conditions" being placed on Serbia, there has not been a new condition placed on Serbia since the writing of UNSC 1244. It is all written there and that is the settlement of the final status of Kosovo. There is no change, Serbia was given the opportunity to facilitate this but all Serbia could say is we want the land without the Albanians on it knowing that was never, never an acceptable response. The words more than autonomy less than independence were never uttered by Serbia until the appointees of the UNSC decided that negotiations would never solve the issue and Kosovo unilaterally declared independence. Then Serbia ran around saying they were willing to offer full autonomy but never even coming close to what they say. Now Serbia iss toatlly against even full autonomy for Kosovo, they want North Kosovo to remain Serbian and not Kosovo.
It is Serbia that is constantly adding "conditions" to the picture not the rest of the world.
Serbia starts the EU process with 22 countries recognizing Kosovo as an independent state, the expectations are clear and have been from day one, they are not going to change their position and Serbs wake up each day and act as if this just happened today. No one and I repeat no one has ever hinted that Serbia can enter while claiming Kosovo as a part of Serbia.

Serbs in Serbia are sick of Kosovo. Government officials endorsing Kosovo independence by talking about UN seat for Kosovo shows that the Serbian constitution words on Kosovo are garbage or as dacic says are dead letters. Dacic and everyone meeting wig thaci and collecting customs and going to other meetings are all pro Kosovo independence. The entire government abolished the Kosovo ministry and Kosovo independnce is being embraced by Serbs. They all want to be western and eu people..

PM Vucic is really great surprise at noways political scene! Young! Brave! Open-minded! Bold enough to fight for his conviction and strong enough to remain calm and descent! I hope he will find equivalent colleagues to finish started job!

Ari,

Easy for you to say from Australia. Easy to have opinions without having to deal with any of the consequences of those opinions.
(Danilo, 19 January 2013 14:34)

Fair enough. But this was the Post October 2000 myth that somehow by doing what were told from Western gov'ts, Serbs will in turn live like Westerners do. 13 years later and we see that was a myth and at the time Serbs bought into neo-liberal promises of milk and honey if they betray their national interests. Not to say Milosevic was a good leader by any stretch of the imagination, but these post Slobo leaders make him look A LOT better by comparison.

And now we see the only thing Serbia can expect from Western governments are more conditions. If you want to live like Westerners do then Serbia's best bet is to tap into its large diaspora resources and invite them to have more hands on say in how the country is managed.

Defending the Constitution may not pave the streets in gold, but breaking it definitely wont either. Joining the same political union Germany is in will not make Serbs (or anybody in the Balkans) live like Germans...its insane to think anyone is just going to hold your hand and teach you to be successful..........particularly those you keep sticking it to every time they try to take over Europe.

you live a great life unlike majority of Serbians outside of Serbia. Majority of the Serbs could care less about some Serbian constitution just to improve their lives which I don't blame them for. You can't speak on behalf of the Serbians who live in Serbia. You're not going through what they're going through.

Fairy tales again! There won't be more or less foreign investors if Serbia joins the EU! If they invest in Serbia depends on other issues, like financial security and facilitation of establishment.

It's more likely that Russian and Chinese enterprises invest in Serbia than the EU with its empty promises!
(Joachim, 19 January 2013 14:00)

Thank you! Education, cutting red tape bureaucracy, lowering outrageous tax rates and cleansing the state from corruption is what equals investment. The only investment the EU will give Serbia is an investment in the politicians who keep toting the EU discourse when they are in power.

"According to him, it is very important to Serbia to get a date for the beginning of the EU accession talks because it would encourage investors to come to Serbia. Vučić noted that he knew many investors who were waiting for Serbia to get a date for the start of the EU talks in order to invest in development projects in Serbia."

When asked when the meeting would take place, Vučić said: “If I said soon, then it will be soon.” I am so annoyed by this arrogant ***hole. He, and his umbilical buddy, Nikolic, were highly instrumental in the destruction of Serbia, just Google their history, and now they behave as it's saviors and supreme leaders. Get lost, Vucic, you and the "grave digger", and allow new and untarnished voices to lead serbia out of the black hole you have placed it in. Someone with your past should be a lot more humble, and thankful that you are not keeping the likes of Mladic company in the Hague.

Vučić pointed out that Serbia's goal was not to violate its Constitution and principles and to get a date for the beginning of the EU accession talks.

The Constitution> EU accession talks any day.
