300 years haha we all know you when you came, you fought a war in Kosovo 700 years ago which you lost, if we look back another 700 hunderd years you shouldnt even be there, but it dosn't mean you can't be there no, be there and be good, thats all it takes.
I wonder if Janos Hunyad and his Hungarians have the same right to Kosovo as you do, because he fought there as well?!?!

the problem is not the memorial. the problem is that the milosevic mindset is alive and "well" in serbia (and of course all of their nice diaspora), as their nice media broadcasts, day in day out.

speaking of the media, just keep it up. it's good to watch each day how nothing has changed, except of course for out and out war and genocide (thanks, nato).

we forced them to arrest and extradite some of their worst killer criminals, and nothing else. no regrets, no sorrow of their past evils, they just immerse themselves in it. and the intl community (so-called) rewards them for it. fools...

there are good and progressive serbs, but u'll never find them here. just the same usual racist crap, glorified.

i really don't know how my albanian colleagues that come visit here can stand it. but i admire them, and the ability to get thru the iron curtain...

"To MikeC"

Firs of all we are called Albanians not "you people".

Second if you knew the history about how the land was divided in 1913 you would understand more. But i don't blame anyone for what happened in 1913 but the Albanians, because through history we always had a tendency to be a bit naive and uneducated, and it gave all the neighbors around to want a piece of the land, for them it felt like taking candy from a kid.

And third when you say: "with the population decreasing"... Why do you think that will happen?

kiko

pre 11 godina

Simple solution:

If it is on public property (meaning city property) sell it to a private citizen. Then its on private land. No one can argue about what a person can build on their land. Case finished.

At city hall they erected the nativity scene each year until one resident complained bc he was not christian but of the old testament. The citizens voted and sold the 10'x10' plot to a resident for $1. They guy withdrew his lawsuit and everyone was happy.

If its in front of City Hall as it seems from the pic, then relocating it can resolve the issue.

If they tear it down someone else will build a larger one on their private property and then everyone can bitc$ about it but no one can legally do anything about it. Its a persons right to build what they want as long as it gets city approval and I believe the majority are albanian there if I'm not mistaken. If anyone can tell me then please do.

Merry Christmas to my Orthodox friends and a Happy New Year to you all :))

Winston

Mirel, Serbs want the UCK monument off of their soil, who said anything about killing Albanians? Where is your mind jumping to? I just hope people keep all of this in perspective, it is just a piece of stone, after all. I would hope that no one would jeopardize their life over a monument.

MikeC

"... the serbs must understand that Albanians live in the valley and it has been their home and is gonna be their home in the future and they should be respected, unfortunately today it is under srbia but we hope one day they will join Albania as well."

Alban

Thats the problem with you albs. You think all the areas inhabited by albs is alb land and only alb land. You don't acknowledge the fact that others live there to. You want it your way or the highway. That's why there can never be peace with you people. With an ever decresing alb population there this monument might soon be the only albanian thing that remains. I would gladly trade parts of Kosovo with Presevo. Anything to get rid of albs.

Winston

pre 11 godina

Mirel from Albania, simply move the monument off of Serbian soil, simple. Place it in Kosovo or Albania, but not Serbia. Who ever erecting the monument knew that it would offend Serbs, but did so anyway. Is that neighborly?

Winston

pre 11 godina

Part two: Serbs have lived in Kosovo for centuries, yet even their churches are torn down and desecrated. Is that right? Let's not base the history of the Kosovo area simply on the time of Milosevic, that makes no sense. Why not work on finding solutions for co-habitation? Serbs and Albanians do not have to like each other, just respect the fact that they both have a long, long, history in that part of the world.

Winston

pre 11 godina

Part one: Alban, Serbs have been in the Kosovo, Southern Serbia area for centuries. In fact, there is more proof or their existence there, than Albanian. I do not want to get into that discussion, but you must admit that both peoples have a claim to the land. Borders and nations do change, they have in history, and will probably continue to do so. When nations, and population shifts do change, one has to respect the country he/she lives in. Albanians now want Serbs to accept an independent Albanian Kosovo, and respect all its laws and rules. Why then shouldn't Albanians in Presevo respect the laws of the country they live in? You appear to be a sensible person, rare for this site, but I think you understand what I am getting at. You cannot have it all your way. If you are in Albania, respect where you are, and Albanian laws, and that of the majority. If in Serbia the same thing. Kosovo is still disputed, although I see it as a losing battle for serbia, but none the less, disputed. Why do people in the Balkans go out of their way to insult other ethnicities? The civic leaders in Presevo knew quite well that erecting a monument would cause a negative reaction with Serbs and Belgrade, yet they did it anyway. Where is the attempt to live peacefully with your neighbors there? Kosovo is close by, and Albanians can erect a million monuments there if they want.

Mirel from Albania

pre 11 godina

If Serbia will remove the monument and start killing albanians in the process,it is going to be a big mess.
Is is worthy?I dont think so.
Is better to cut a deal, such as erasing the names from the monument.
I think albanians can live with that so should serbs.
You may demolish the monument, but if you do so,the people there will remember their heroes in its songs and balads.Their memory will be stronger.
Turks did demolish the tomb of George Castriot Skenderbeu, demolished the church, and even took his bones. For turks Skenderbeu was a terrorrist and infidel, like for serbian state albanians in Preshevo are terrorrists and infidels.
But Skenderbeu outlived turkish ocupation and still lives in the hearts of every Albanian.
Be careful when u do such a move because they usually backfire.

What will happen to the serbian "sacred monuments" in Kosovo if Serbia remove the memorial?
Nobody think on serbian people living in Kosovo?

Alban

In a way I understand both sides, I understand the serbs for not wanting it in their "soil" and that they do not appreciate a monument of Albanian soldiers there, but calling them for terrorists is to take it a bit to far, they were and will always be remembered as freedom-fighters. And on the other hand i understand the Albanians for wanting it there, but i think it should be removed, to avoid confrontation, but the serbs must understand that Albanians live in the valley and it has been their home and is gonna be their home in the future and they should be respected, unfortunately today it is under srbia but we hope one day they will join Albania as well.

Nobody think on serbian people living in Kosovo?

If you are such an "italian" why don't you put to Mussolini a monument in the front of Vatican? Or Hitler in front of Bundestag?

In a way I understand both sides, I understand the serbs for not wanting it in their "soil" and that they do not appreciate a monument of Albanian soldiers there, but calling them for terrorists is to take it a bit to far, they were and will always be remembered as freedom-fighters. And on the other hand i understand the Albanians for wanting it there, but i think it should be removed, to avoid confrontation, but the serbs must understand that Albanians live in the valley and it has been their home and is gonna be their home in the future and they should be respected, unfortunately today it is under srbia but we hope one day they will join Albania as well.

At city hall they erected the nativity scene each year until one resident complained bc he was not christian but of the old testament. The citizens voted and sold the 10'x10' plot to a resident for $1. They guy withdrew his lawsuit and everyone was happy.

This is not democracy... this is supporting terrorism! This monument is supporting the secession of Preševo from Serbia. These people MUST be stopped. Peacefully would be nice but if peaceful removal of this monument is not possible than removal by force is imperative. Such a provocation must be answered first by arresting all leaders in support of the monument and all citizens who threaten to attack serb civilians in retaliation to the monument under counts of terrorism, supporting terrorism and threat to use terrorism. The law must be changed as well, any murder of a government worker i.e. police officer must be punishable by a lifetime prison sentence or by death.

But Skenderbeu outlived turkish ocupation and still lives in the hearts of every Albanian.

the problem is not the memorial. the problem is that the milosevic mindset is alive and "well" in serbia (and of course all of their nice diaspora), as their nice media broadcasts, day in day out.

speaking of the media, just keep it up. it's good to watch each day how nothing has changed, except of course for out and out war and genocide (thanks, nato).

we forced them to arrest and extradite some of their worst killer criminals, and nothing else. no regrets, no sorrow of their past evils, they just immerse themselves in it. and the intl community (so-called) rewards them for it. fools...

there are good and progressive serbs, but u'll never find them here. just the same usual racist crap, glorified.

i really don't know how my albanian colleagues that come visit here can stand it. but i admire them, and the ability to get thru the iron curtain...

destroy it thats it, you live in serbia live by the rules and there is only 50,000 albanians left in the entire preshovo valley anyway thats nothing.

The monument, dedicated to veterans of the Liberation Army of Presevo, Medvedja and Bujanovac, was erected in November in front of the town hall in Presevo, which is home to some 50,000 ethnic Albanians.

Winston

pre 11 godina
