In my opinion, there is not enough land in the Balkans to satisfy the Albanians, they believe it is all theirs.

You got that right Slick, not until we get back what's ours, all the way not Nis.

perhaps you ought to have been bright enough to have shared these sentiments with your brothers in Krajina and not have had to live to see them become refugees in other parts of Serbia. however, look at the map of the first state of Serbia post-Ottoman and look at it now, see who actively pursued and expansionist policy, it sure as hell wasn't Albanians, who didn't even have a state to enlarge during the League of Prizren

It is very important that unity has been achieved. When the conditions are met, the Serbian negotiating position will be reinforced regarding the Kosovo Albanians and the international community.

Another resolution in the row of many, but given what leaked in the public, it seems as the most serious and concrete. A positive notion regarding this resolution is that it has been adopted in the spirit of unity.

truth is Winston, bar the last 160 years, Serb and Albanians have never had problems. its only with the advent of nationalism, that issue begin to creep up. - Nikolle
Good one, Nikolle, just the last 160 years. And who was the one that started with the nationalism? Do you remember the creation of the League of Prizren, formed in 1878, and what their goals were? Which ethnicity was the one fighting for its nationalistic endeavors? It was the world powers at the time that divided the Balkans to their liking, yet the Shiptars took it that the Serbs were at fault, and have been rebelling ever since. In my opinion, there is not enough land in the Balkans to satisfy the Albanians, they believe it is all theirs. I don't want to get into the Illyrian thing, who knows or even cares about that. It means nothing today. All that I am saying is, that wherever Shiptars live, in whatever number. they believe it is their land, and they can do as they please. But wherever they are a majority, the minority is abused. Plain and simple, if Albanians live in Serbia, or Macedonia, respect the laws of that country. As for Kosovo, it is still disputed, or we would not be having these daily conversations. In other words, no UCK monument in Presevo, it's Serbian land, as for KiM, we shall see.

I think that this resolution will not prevent the independence of Kosovo, whatever the Serbian leadership claims, but on thing is sure: the Serbian government is aware of that fact and concetrates ist efforts to preserve the Kosovo Serbs and safeguard their rights in the form of a special region. Serbs should now use the weapons used by Albanians decades ago: request the same rights Albanians were requesting, autonomy etc.

In such a complex process such as the issue of Kosovo, any serious negotiator should keep his platform hidden from the public until he reaches the negotiating table. Serbs have made the mistakes uncovering their strategies for everyone to know what are they up for, thus loosing every diplomatic battle. The fact that the current government keeps the platform as a secret shows a turn in seriousness.

That's all very well said, Diplomaticus, just as long as Serbs and Albanians do not live together. The hatred that exists between these two peoples, especially on the side of the Shiptars, is too great to overcome. It would be like asking the Jews and Arabs to join a kolo. It ain't gonna happen. Serbian politics, and politicians suck, granted, but are they any worse than Pristina's, or Macedonia's, or Croatia's, or BiH's, or Montenegro's - any in the Balkans, no. It's been too long that the fingers have been pointed at Belgrade, point at yourselves too. And you will see some ugly things there as well.

Both sides benefit from the instability, and they do everything to keep it like that. May it be the 'Kosovo platform', may it be repeated provocations by Kosovo Albanians. It only shows that neither side is interested in solving the Kosovo issue and settling the status.

Unfortunately, Kosovo doesn't has a TV channel like B92 which dares to show the criminal connections of their 'businessmen' and 'politicians'.

Nikolic did more in less than a year, than Tadic did during his entire term. Very nice to see Serbia put its foot down. All you so called historians here seem to be bothered, as if Serbia is continuing a bad policy, blah, blah, blah. Serbs have suffered as much as anyone..and all crimes committed against them have went unpunished. A time comes where we have to stand united as a people, and make our own demands. Its nice to see a state policy..and not run to fool the people and misinform them in the future as Stefanovic and Tadic did over and over. Thank God for Nikolic winning the election. And may peace prevail..if not, may the world not interfere with what the albos have coming. As it looks like they are going to cont to provoke Serbs in our southern territory of Kosovo and Metohija over and over. Eventually..that will come back and bite them you know where..and real hard.

It is funny to see how easily Serbs are fooled. What exactly has he accomplished? It is all talk, he has done NOTHING. They implemented the agreements Tadic made. Drawing up a platform that the previous govt has said all along, that is it, he supposedly put it on paper that is it. The things they say if you look back to the news reports from 2010, the same headlines just a change in names. I think his big promise was transparency, but yet no one knows everything about this BIG platform and the daily news reports contradict what was said the day before.

Why should Serbs ever sit in the same room with an Albanian again, after their police brutally beat innocent, defenseless, prisoners? And how about that stone in Presevo, honoring the enemies of the State of Serbia, where Albanians are threatening chaos if it is removed? In reality, what is there left to talk about? IMHO, F the EU talks, when they can civilize the Albanians, maybe then, just maybe, some form of dialogue can be considered.

The so called Kosovo Platform is anachronistic because it not only disregards the centuries old reality but also basic principles of geopolitics. If the gov. thinks that just by "declaring" a policy it will come to fruition it will disappoint them. This is an illusionist game played against the people of Serbia. If a non issue is kept as a priority of the state, than what chances are there for the economy?
Will Serbia improve the business climate with this? Will it lower its 3rd world inflation, the debt, the recession and general dispair? One would think that these guys who were the bosses in the '90s and who failed in ALL their endeavors - wars, economy, rule of law, that they would change. But why change when instability is so profitable for them?! Every Serb knows about their criminal connections. It is about politics and money not about the people, as the TV series Insajder showed.
Kosovo is an excuse. World geopolitics cannot change because the reality and the trends have changed. We live in a globalized world and in a European ecosystem. The trend is to erase borders, while Serbia wants to change them. The ruling class knows this very well, yet it persists with the old.
What Serbia should do is what it should have done since 1989: get itself ready for a future without borders between all the Serbs living wherever they are in the Balkans. The reforms required are not for the EU but above all for the people who want justice, prosperity and human dignity!

what a joke, and nothing else but Valium for the masses. There is no support outside of Serbia and Russia for this so called 'Platform', and it simply shows that Serbia has not learned a thing. This current regime in Belgrade does Serbia so much harm, and it will not establish anything positive for your country or the region. Nobody takes Serbia serious any more, and the embarassing behaviour Nicolic showed on Christmas when he wasn't allowed to travel to Kosovo shows everybody how wrong they are in their political assesment of the overall situation. Go on dreaming. The only once that will get hurt are the serbian people, and they have to do something themselves to get rid of these clowns.

perhaps you ought to have been bright enough to have shared these sentiments with your brothers in Krajina and not have had to live to see them become refugees in other parts of Serbia. however, look at the map of the first state of Serbia post-Ottoman and look at it now, see who actively pursued and expansionist policy, it sure as hell wasn't Albanians, who didn't even have a state to enlarge during the League of Prizren

This is such a change for Serbia, it is not like anyone ever at anytime heard that phrase before. "We will never recognize the Unilateral Declaration of Independence of Kosovo" Can you imagin if it had been said before??
Oh, thats right it has been said by the Serbian govt everyday since 2008, forget what I said, no change at all.
But I do get flashbacks of North Korea announcing how parliament unanimously supports KimJong il's policies, and now his son. Does Nikolic have any sons by the way?

I think that this resolution will not prevent the independence of Kosovo, whatever the Serbian leadership claims, but on thing is sure: the Serbian government is aware of that fact and concetrates ist efforts to preserve the Kosovo Serbs and safeguard their rights in the form of a special region. Serbs should now use the weapons used by Albanians decades ago: request the same rights Albanians were requesting, autonomy etc.

"The hatred that exists between these two peoples, especially on the side of the Shiptars, is too great to overcome."

Calling them Shiptars will not get you far my friend.
Continue to blame others for your misfortunes!

The reforms required are not for the EU but above all for the people who want justice, prosperity and human dignity!

truth is Winston, bar the last 160 years, Serb and Albanians have never had problems. its only with the advent of nationalism, that issue begin to creep up.

You really believe it?

It is funny to see how easily Serbs are fooled. What exactly has he accomplished? It is all talk, he has done NOTHING. They implemented the agreements Tadic made. Drawing up a platform that the previous govt has said all along, that is it, he supposedly put it on paper that is it. The things they say if you look back to the news reports from 2010, the same headlines just a change in names. I think his big promise was transparency, but yet no one knows everything about this BIG platform and the daily news reports contradict what was said the day before.

I was curious what the rationale is for not presenting the platform to the public? It would seem to make it difficult to gain a better understanding of a significant piece of national legislation.

Pls say it ain't so!!!
